Here's our curated roundup of the art and the artists we spoke with at the PULSE Contemporary Art Fair at Art Week Miami 2016, such as Nicola Verlato, Devan Shimoyama, Tony Gum, Christian Rex Van Minnen, K. Yoland, and Rashaad Newsome. We got up close and personal with a variety of works that explore themes of identity, collective and individual agency in a post-election climate, the emotional complexities in confronting the grotesque, and a diversity of representations of women. In digging further into these works, we felt the weight of these pieces and how the ideas they represent make a relevant impact as we look forward to what will surely be a tumultuous 2017.

A true artist shouldn't have to make a statement to the masses but connect to the individual. Thru opening up your soul the viewers should be able to relate.

Artists have started to bridge the gap between science and art by means of computer generated imagery or by extreme expression that is new and surprisingly exciting and positive, yet people are STILL making shock art and collage are taken seriously... whyyy?

What you say tells me that you do not understand that art helps us understand the world around us and that art should reflect our time- which is most certainly governed by the computer (a fact which is validated by your commenting on this video- think about it for a bit, it'll come to you).
The way you convey your message tells me that you are the sort that actually takes shock-'art' seriously.

I hate when artist have to explain their conceptual art in order for the viewer to "get it". Art should speak for its self.
