What i like about IDW/MTMTE is that it humanises the Cybertronians. They're *people*, not just big metal things that go "Bang-Bang, Pew-Pew!" at eachother.
By the way, it is largely thanks to the humanization of the Cybertronians that I got hooked on the Transformers Prime series and that the Transformers Prime series totally convinced me to get interested in the Transformers license in a broad sense 😊
I must say: The Scavengers are absolutely f***ing amazing. I cannot count how many times I laughed my head off. And then they actually make them more than comic relief with Grimlock and the Roboids and just... it’s so good. And the characters are just... *chef’s kiss*. Cyclonus especially zips to the high end of my list, especially after saving Tailgate. I genuinely thought Cyclonus was dead and that was probably the closest I’ve come to crying at a character’s death. I also love what they did with Magnus. This concept is so dumb, but, shockingly, it works! And Ravage was amazing. I don’t think I need to explain this one. It’s interesting to see him actually separated from Soundwave for once, and I’m so glad that we actually get to hear him speak. His whole thing of trying to turn Megatron back never felt out of place to me, really. And then his death... I can’t.
Soundwave feeling it across the galaxy… heartbreaking. And Rung being forgotten genuinely hurt. You could see where all the characters came from, their reasoning, their passion… Also the Scavengers are my favorite group of dum dums, theyre just perfect for their roles
Sadly, people will not think of this or other amazing shows if we mention Transformers. They are either going to think about Bayformers or RID 2015. Both are special but they don't draw you like MTMTE or TFP. I missed Skids and Ravage....

I love More Than Meets The Eye because not only are the characters amazing, the world building is fantastic, and the deaths are written so well it leaves me with empty tissue boxes. And I hate to go all sad-tragic-backstory, but this comic was there for me when I was at the lowest point in my life. My mental health was going downhill, and the one thing that made me happy was reading a new issue of this comic. I wouldn't say it "cured" me, but it did give me comfort and a reason to smile.
I just finished MTMTE a second ago and I gotta say, best comic series I've ever read. The comic has made me laugh and cry and kept me on my toes. James Roberts said himself that he only got into Transformers a year before he started MTMTE and he's interpreted and wrote the characters so well. I can't really find any fault in it. It's perfect.

MTMTE is devoid of toy promotion, but it's so good that I'd buy every figure that let me reenact this crazy crew. That should make Hasbro think they could go the other way round, create good comics and then make figures.
Comic is awesome. Interesting point about the RID stream comics pushing toys. Weirdly, what I've seen is more toys from MTMTE being push out from the comics. There's a Pipes on my desk at the moment, and a tiny little Minimus Ambus. They exist purely because they appeared in MTMTE, rather than the other way around.

Another great thing about this comic is this quote from Thunderclash from issue 42: "The universe is cold, and cruel, and violent - but only if you choose to look at it that way. For every act of aggression there are a thousand acts of kindness. For every hateful word, a million declarations of love. The good always outweighs the bad."
I kinda fell in love with how dark and twisted the DJD was in MTMTE, and I definitely want Hasbro/Takara to make a set of figures of those guys including Nickel and The Pet.

As someone who binged MTMTE and LL during a one week vacation, this video pretty much summarises part of why I love the series. James Robert's writing was phenomenal. He gave us the iconic parts of fighting and all that action, but he also gave us highly developed characters that would've otherwise been forgotten. Chromedome, Rewind, Swerve.,., I haven't been a transformer fan for more than three months, and I haven't seen these three in any other Transformers media than MTMTE. But if I haven't read MTMTE, I won't remember them as vividly as I do now. JRO was able to balance dark scenes with humour. Think of the Scavengers. They were lost, stranded and basically scavenging for parts to survive (thus the name). A pretty depressing life. But they also had their funny moments that never subtracted the reality of their situation. They were broken mechs fighting their own demons after the war, but as broken as they were they were still alive and kicking and living life like any normal person. Two artists whose art style stuck with me the most were Alex Milne and Jack Lawrence. Alex Milne was the primary artist in MTMTE and Jack Lawrence worked on LL too. Both of their art styles are amazing. The expressions, the proportions, and of course, the action scenes. Without these two the series will not be the way it is. And the people that helped along the way matter so much too. Without someone to edit the speech bubbles my eyes would've simply wandered off the page.,.,, Because let's face it, sometimes the panels are so small that it's hard to know where to start. And to the people that helped with the colouring, shading, formatting, etc. The entire team that worked on MTMTE and LL did a wonderful job and it's a shame that I can't name all of them. But I'm so grateful that this comic was brought to life. Anyways, thanks for the amazing video!! Sorry for the long ramble >< Edit: I added extra paragraph breaks because everything looked squeezy
Godric Haze I feel you man. I understand what Roberts was really doing with him and I appreciate it, but it just isn't what I expected from the character.
As a Person who loves More Than Meets the Eye so thanks DB For making this Vid your the BEST Also will you ever be Doing a Video about what would Happen If Transformers was still Apart of Marvel?
Coming back to this video after watching it when it first came out and I’m realizing that no other transformers media has ever topped how good this series is and that’s so upsetting because why can’t anything be this good😭
Ethan Worner Its doesn't make a lot of sense considering they're robots, but then again neither does gender... what is the difference between a male and female cybertronian anyway!?
I have a couple of issues of the "Dying of The Light" story arc myself (like, mainly just the first two issues). :) -sigh- Boy, do I wish I had more than that from the MTMTE series. Any other IDW comics I have are mainly "Spotlight: Megatron", and a few issues from the "Dark Cybertron" story arc. Any others, I just occasionally research about on TFWiki (so, yeah, I definitely know what happens at the end of "Dying of The Light" - poor Ravage). Still, what I'd give to actually have more of them in my possession. ^^; Anyway, enough about me. XD You're right, Bolt, "More Than Meets The Eye" is far superior to any other comic seasons. :-)
You know MTMTE was the first transformers comic book I read and the only comic I read to the end. I'm right now reading lost light and I'm still loving it no matter what James Robert is a wonderful writer and I hope he keeps writing the way he's been doing.
Honestly I love this series enough for giving me an excuse to say “I read a comic about a giant gay robot who fell in love with another giant gay robot but one of the robots died but than the living gay giant robot found a alternate dimension version of the gay giant robot that died only for the dead gay giant robot that came back in a way to have to die again”.
It really felt like just a group of friends going an an adventure together and finding love, redemption, and heartbreak. Rodimus before this to me was just a backup leader for when they wanted to kill Optimus for a bit but by the end he felt like more of a character. And don’t get me started on Megatron and his arc in the comic and even in the end he still accepts his fate it felt like Rodimus was losing a friend. Then there’s Whril and his excellent matchmaking skills
I barely knew about Pipes before MTMTE, wasn't he that one huffer rip off who shot at trypticon's feet in the original cartoon? However you can fall in love with that incarnation is really logic breaking.
Since Rodimus Prime is my 2nd favorite Transformer (the 1st being Starscream), I've been really looking forward to reading Lost Light. This video has only made me want to read it more.
Hasbro should make some toys for MTMTE. Though they shouldn't be for promotion, like what they're doing now with their Generations line. I *need* a Tarn toy, otherwise I'll have to buy the third party ones.
Brilliantly put Eddie! I couldn't agree more with this video Diamondbolt! Next time someone ask why I love Transformers and which franchise is my favorite I'm gonna show them this video. I'm definitely gonna check Eddie's channel out. Keep up the great work guys!
I think the series is amazing although I only know some of the characters. To me, rodimus would be that one cool friend who always has way to much self-confidence, but yet you can't help but love him.
Mtmte actually has relationships I find adorable it would really be epic to have a show of it. I actually really enjoyed this alittle more than the shows but I still love the shows. The designs are awesome and I resently just got into them a week or two ago. (edited I'm now reading the other comics like robots in disguise etc since I finished mtmte an LL an I do plan on reading them again I did read them twice (I've reread them more than that im currently rereading them again) Edit 2 I finished most of phase 2 just not some of the spotlights and I'm now collecting them in the idw collection books now I'm going to eventually get the phase 1s and read them aswell.
My 6 year old cousin has a Tailgate toy, so I told him, "Tailgate faked his death so he could get away from his girlfriend, instead of telling her he was gay." He didn't understand it so he loves the toy more now😂 My friend at school also has a Chromedome toy and I told him Chromedome was gay and he just handed me the toy and said "keep it"
You're exactly right with that comment about toys controlling RiD/TF/OP/whatever. It's a shame because it always starts building up these really good story arcs that rival even MTMTE, then suddenly a big toy event will come along and derail it all. Then it slowly gets back on track before getting massively derailed again.
I can't help but wonder if that's why MTMTE & Lost Light are so good. That maybe Hasbro avoids those two comics on the condition that it gets to influence RID, TF, OP, the other non-MTMTE/LL comics. Just a thought.
I think MTMTE is the best Transformers anything I've ever seen. I will agree that it's non-conventional plot really helped, and the use of B-team characters likely gave Roberts and his crew a lot of room to play. For the relationship thing, I think why it worked so well is because for the Cybertronians there really wasn't a sense of gender. Fembots were on Caminus, and they similarly had their own relationship structure (from what I can tell) and it never seemed gender defined. They just loved, hated, rivaled, befrended, united, and alienated on a footing of who people were and their attitudes. Also, MTMTE made me love Cyclonus for more than looks, Magnus for more than might, and introduced me to Misfire. I have a Titans Return Misfire on order because of these comics, and I'm struggling to NOT blow a lot of money on Overlord. Controvercial or not, Auto-Megs was a fun contrast to what Star Saber (my favorite Autobot leader), Tyress, and a few current leads like Prowl are: The darker side of the Autobots. Megs turn of world view is a lighter side of the Decepticons: The revolutionary who sought change and progress, ready to risk his men and himself. Granted, the whirlwind of bloodshed was pretty bad, but the worst maelstroms of horror often have a good ideal lost within.
Over on TFW2005, all I ever see is people complaining about how MTMTE isn't as good as it used to be, and how it needs to be cancelled before it gets any worse. Whenever I see any news or previews about Lost Light, I'm just bombarded with negative comments about it. It's good to be hear reading all these comments showering it with the praise it deserves. Some TF fans might not like this series for whatever reason, and that's cool, but to me it's far and away the best thing the brand has ever produced, and I kind of feel sorry for anyone who can't see that.
Bro, you weren't the only one to shed tears. Out of all the comics, and movies I watched and read this one got me crying. It's truly something, a true MASTeRPiECe.
diamond bolt this is such a beautiful reason why you love more than meets the eye I am going to start reading more than meets the eye the first five issues of the series so I will tell you what I think and you are my favorite transformers youtuber
MTMTE is the best thing that has happened to Transformers and not even Transformers Prime tops it. MTMTE is so refreshing and new but amazing. Hey writers at Hasbro, READ MTMTE and get an idea of what CHARACTERS are and how they feel and interact as well as what they are to themselves, other characters, and us!
Roberts is just incredible. His writing is impeccable, from the meta humor through the heart-felt moments all the way to the shocking twists. The first LL arc was a bit weak but I'm confident the story will live up to MTMTE. Speaking of LL, I kinda miss the old art style.
Coming back to this after hearing about idw losing the license saddens me. I pray that we get a show adapting this it’s so good. This comic was one of the few times these characters weren’t just robots but people. And I know there people who don’t like relationships like chromodome and rewind but in the society of cybertorn and what we know it makes sense. I haven’t seen much but from the dubs and videos of the series I have watched it looks like a genuinely fun and unique story with amazing art (like DB said most of the time). I am going to pick this up or buy it on the idw comics app and read it.
mtmte gave me a way to understand and sort out my emotions regarding the attempted suicide of my father. in issue 43 what happened to swerve driving him to the edge of death was very similar to what happened to my father. I use this comic to learn about who I am as a person. I will probably cite this series as one of the greatest influences on my adolescence and allowing me to create bonds with people that will last a lifetime. that is why I love more than meets the eye. and sunder scared the shit out of me.
Thank you, MTMTE needs much more attention, even now. This video probably got a few more people to read it, and now whoever sees it can use it to persuade their friends to give it a try!
When I was a kid, as I played with toys, I would create this whole world they lived in and give each character a back story that I knew off by heart. This book makes me feel like that again with its expansive cast with each character having their own personality and storylines all meshed together, abd yet I can follow each one woth ease.
wow i know its amazing but darn thats deep and thats why i have my uncle who can animate basically anything want me to turn the comic into an anime it only tanks a few weeks due to our resources and time
one of the best comics if not the best comic i have ever read in my life. for me pipes death was the saddest. i'm still hoping through some kind of plot device i will see him again.
I REEEEAAALLLLLYYY WANT TO READ THE COMICS BUT I CAANNNNTT AND IM RRALLY MAD ABOUT THAT IT SEEMS SO EMOTIONAL AND AMAZING AND IVE NEVER SEEN ANY KIND OF COMIC WITH THIS MUCH HUMOR, DARKNESS, AND HEART AND IM ACTUALLY GETTING STRONG FEELS JUST LISTENING TO YOU TALK ABOUT THE EMOTIONAL MOMENTS
Mtmte was one of the few transformers comics I read, other than spotlight Kup and megatron origins. Its honestly a very compelling story and you feel for the characters and feel what they are feeling. And the characters dont just stay the same they arent all carbon copies, instead they grow and develop and flourish before they're eventually, by one cause of action or one minor screw up, snuffed out. I love these characters and I hope they do the same story telling with the reboot. (Though they screwed up by killing brainstorm, made me sad) I love this series, and honestly my favourite character was Ten, for a guy who only said one word and was designed as a killing machine, changed. He went from mindless soldier to an artist and it nearly killed me when he was eliminated by the spark eaters. Love this comic, love these characters, and I hope I feel the same with the new series
So glad I found this vid👍 I couldn't agree more, MTMTE and to some extent LL are the best comics I have read all my life. There is nothing I have ever anticipated more than the new issues every month. I could barely contain the joy as they arrived at my retailer and I could go and pick them up. The crew practically became my family, I love each and every one of them....ok, with a few exceptions, but only because they were utter bastards, like Overlord, Getaway and the DJD. But I still sorta love them since they are so very well written. And I have always had a thing for Megatron but here he became my absolute fave, noone comes near. Roberts have a special skill, he made me care about characters I earlier disliked badly. It was a big surprise for me that I suddenly liked Cyclonus, whom I earlier was unable to take serious at all. And Rodimus...I despised him. Roberts changed that, just like that. He is a genius and a master at his craft. Milne is my artgod, his art is fluent and alive. So my heart broke when this series ended. There is nothing that can fill the void it created. But I am grateful that it exists at all, it was good while it lasted and I read it again and again. Thanks man, you are a wonderful youtuber, with much insight in the subject and I love your humor. Stay safe☺👍

Sorry for the long ramble ><
Edit: I added extra paragraph breaks because everything looked squeezy
I don't know about you guys, but I get the feeling that Diamondbolt really likes More than Meets the Eye
JUST A HUNCH
Last time I was this early Tarn was my favorite character
Godric Haze I feel you man. I understand what Roberts was really doing with him and I appreciate it, but it just isn't what I expected from the character.
As a Person who loves More Than Meets the Eye so thanks DB For making this Vid your the BEST Also will you ever be Doing a Video about what would Happen If Transformers was still Apart of Marvel?
The movies would actually be good.
Coming back to this video after watching it when it first came out and I’m realizing that no other transformers media has ever topped how good this series is and that’s so upsetting because why can’t anything be this good😭
5:15 Gays in spaaaace!!
Ethan Worner
Its doesn't make a lot of sense considering they're robots, but then again neither does gender... what is the difference between a male and female cybertronian anyway!?
Female transformers have boobs.
@Miles Edgington
Mostly for us humans to relate to.
I want to read this comic. Ever since I have heard of Autobot Megatron I have wanted to read this. I love a good villain redemption.
Excellent video. Keep it up!
Guys anybody notice this fact he changes his PC background every time he does a talk video
I LOVE MTMTE and I LOVE THE SCAVENGERS!!!
Also Alex Milne is the primary artist for mtmte and his work is brilliant!!! 😍😍😍
If Roberts ever made his own TF universe like Furman did, then the world will know true unity.
This Is My Favorite Comic Ever!!
“A therapist punched the moon in my gay robots comic in the name of destroying what is technically robot facism”
Also the soundtrack provided by James Roberts is absolutely amazing
Me: I should read this.
Shia Lebouf: DO IT! JUST DO IT!!!!
Whirl: the captain of the Cygate ship. Not one of us will ever beat him
I like Pipes before More than meet the eyes
Hes dead and that's sad
They did a few of them back in 2012 with the Dark Cybertron crossover, making a few toys with bodies similar to those in MTMTE.
owlstag awn the third party Tarn is incredible. It's the best figure in my collection and completely worth the price
this series got me back into comics and the franchise!
(edited I'm now reading the other comics like robots in disguise etc since I finished mtmte an LL an I do plan on reading them again I did read them twice (I've reread them more than that im currently rereading them again)
Edit 2 I finished most of phase 2 just not some of the spotlights and I'm now collecting them in the idw collection books now I'm going to eventually get the phase 1s and read them aswell.
My 6 year old cousin has a Tailgate toy, so I told him, "Tailgate faked his death so he could get away from his girlfriend, instead of telling her he was gay." He didn't understand it so he loves the toy more now😂
My friend at school also has a Chromedome toy and I told him Chromedome was gay and he just handed me the toy and said "keep it"
It was because I loved this one so much, I went back and bought up all the previous TPB story arcs
You took words right out of my mouth
Daddy.
Thanks for putting this into words! It's awesome to know that there are other people that love this series as much as I do.
GaryTheNeutral I don't
I am going to pick this up or buy it on the idw comics app and read it.
this is awesome how diamond blot and eddie explain how good it is art details etc this makes me love transformers more thanks diamond blot
mtmte gave me a way to understand and sort out my emotions regarding the attempted suicide of my father. in issue 43 what happened to swerve driving him to the edge of death was very similar to what happened to my father. I use this comic to learn about who I am as a person. I will probably cite this series as one of the greatest influences on my adolescence and allowing me to create bonds with people that will last a lifetime.
that is why I love more than meets the eye.
and sunder scared the shit out of me.
3:54
AHHHHH
MY SPARK!!!!
*CRYS AGAIN*
you know those videos you wanna like more than once...
*this is one of them*
Thank you, MTMTE needs much more attention, even now. This video probably got a few more people to read it, and now whoever sees it can use it to persuade their friends to give it a try!
"Completely devoid of toy promotion"
It sent me on a binge buy to get as many crew members as i can.
After reading the message after rewind's death, I was brought to tears
FINALLY SOMEONE THAT SPEAKS My LANGUAGE OF THE TRANSFORMRERS
When I was a kid, as I played with toys, I would create this whole world they lived in and give each character a back story that I knew off by heart. This book makes me feel like that again with its expansive cast with each character having their own personality and storylines all meshed together, abd yet I can follow each one woth ease.
Under the cold blue stars and tailgate X cyclones things really pulls my heart strings.
0:00 Is that ANOTHER appearance of the best song from Sonic Colors?
You sir, have good taste.
*L I T T L E L A D Y N O*
Your absolutely right about Pipes. Wish we could've gotten more on him. RIP 😞 but knowing Roberts, he just could considering what happened to Rewind
I liked the song from Steins;Gate which you added when Eddie started talking:)
wow i know its amazing but darn thats deep and thats why i have my uncle who can animate basically anything want me to turn the comic into an anime it only tanks a few weeks due to our resources and time
one of the best comics if not the best comic i have ever read in my life. for me pipes death was the saddest. i'm still hoping through some kind of plot device i will see him again.
The Scavengers are my favorite characters in IDW. I'd love it if they got their own spin off title! :)
It was your view on the comic thatgave me the interest to trying it, and I can't thank you enough.
PD: But I disagree on Revolution, I did like it.
this and Rage of the dinobots were probably my main introduction to the comics. Nostalgic and really good
I REEEEAAALLLLLYYY WANT TO READ THE COMICS BUT I CAANNNNTT AND IM RRALLY MAD ABOUT THAT IT SEEMS SO EMOTIONAL AND AMAZING AND IVE NEVER SEEN ANY KIND OF COMIC WITH THIS MUCH HUMOR, DARKNESS, AND HEART AND IM ACTUALLY GETTING STRONG FEELS JUST LISTENING TO YOU TALK ABOUT THE EMOTIONAL MOMENTS
This made me go and read this series thank you
Mtmte was one of the few transformers comics I read, other than spotlight Kup and megatron origins. (Though they screwed up by killing brainstorm, made me sad)
I love this series, and honestly my favourite character was Ten, for a guy who only said one word and was designed as a killing machine, changed. He went from mindless soldier to an artist and it nearly killed me when he was eliminated by the spark eaters. Love this comic, love these characters, and I hope I feel the same with the new series
That picture at the beginning was great
It’s such a good comic I just finished volume one. It is really sad when someone dies, but it’s such a detailed and expressed comic. I love the humor
Hmm interesting analysis, I might start taking an interest in Transformers. And good job with the Aquarium Park in the background 👍
Stay safe☺👍
