  • Some exciting unexpected surprises in Lofoten made for an enjoyable experience, despite the dreary weather!
Thanks a bunch for watching our new video!
We are Sam & Gabi and we converted our first van back in 2016. We wanted to drive to a Lindy Hop dance camp in Sweden and to stay there for 5 weeks. We decided to buy a van, throw a mattress in the back and go. One thing led to another and we ended up doing a full van conversion, albeit very basic!
We now travel in our 3rd camper van that we have converted and are very pleased to be able to share our journey with you and also to document it for ourselves for our own memories!

Check our recent Instagram stories to see if kissing the fish gave Sam any better luck with fishing :D

The fish you wanted to kiss is probably the Goosefish (Lophius piscatorius)

You should buy food in a Kiwi shop and shoose First Price brand food it is almost 20-30% cheaper than all other brand's so only a advice. Also buy frozen vegetables it is cheap but that is not First Price though. And if it come to beer that Spanish beer is the most expensive you can purchase, so buy a beer in a box 0,5 litres and the brand is "Seidel" green boxes it is very sheep and ok taste.
And i can ensure you it is no need to buy botteled water in Norway it is a waist !
And if you ned water only take it from the waterfall places no dead animal or any nasty there so also from the streams the rivers is the water good it is safe, and if not ask in a house we give you as much water as you want for, no cost at all we are happy with that maybe you get invited to dinner too haha .)

The fish with the huge mouth is an angler fish, they live on deep water and just sit on the ocean flor and wait for some small fish swimming by, then they suck the complete fish in their huge mouth. I am Norwegian and we call them "Breiflabb", directly translated that would be "huge mouth". Very describing name. Its supposed to be a delicacy, but I don think they are any special. I like cod better, and cod is a very common fish in Lofoten. Lofoten have the best spawning grounds for fish and thus a lot of fishing industry is located in that area. Dried cod is very nice and you can store it for a VERY long time without it going bad. You should try it if you have the chance

Breiflabb( angler fish/monk fish, also named Sea devil)is really delicious, tender on a different level. In the old days the fishermen threw them right into the sea, because they were so ugly and possibly frightening. So it is fairly new that we eat them.

Bummer the weather limited the views, but at least you got to enjoy your time there. Hopefully, you can make it back when there is sunnier weather. The views are epic when you can get them.

It's a pity that the high risk of bad weather realized. Seven years ago when I was there it was cold, foggy and cloudy, but luckily there was almost no rain. I envy a little many of my friends who have posted photos and videos from Lofoten with clear blue sky. I remember that short tunnel near Svolvær at 4:18. That was the only one I found no name and other data when I was doing some research after our trip. I'm not sure if I told you before, but I have counted all the tunnels I have driven through on my Norway trips. Now the total number is 243. Something like 1000 more to go 😀

Oh wow so interesting! There are so so many tunnels for sure it’s crazy. We got lost in Tromso underground because of so many tunnels and no gps signal 😅😫

@@sprintervanconversions same happened me in Oslo. That tunnel system has many branches and I drove some times to a wrong ramp because of lack of GPS signal.

Hiya👋 Perfect timing as I was looking to watch something. I am so sry about the rain but you 2 seem to have fun regardless. I am floored at the prices of Corona's - That is even pricey for us in Central California. WoW!

As long as there is oxygen in the air and you aren't boiling, weather is fine, if you just have proper clothing.

      @@sprintervanconversions You could be surprised...
Some people are suffering from severe drought...
Some are experiencing historically difficult temperatures..
For me raining is no problem... Just a welcome weather pattern in some time of year.

det finnes ikke dårlig vær, bare dårlige klær
Depending on the time of year you arrive, this is probably the first Norwegian saying that newcomers hear. Usually, you hear it whilst dripping with rainwater, wringing out your soaking wet socks, before a trip to the nearest outdoor clothing store.
I am not a Norwegian, but I agree.

It's an acquired taste to learn to enjoy nature on it's own terms and in all forms.
It is obvious that some cultures carry more of that in their inheritance and culture. I enjoy rainy days more than dry sunny hot days.

Never fill your diesel on a Cirkle K station in Norway it is allvais the most expensive!!! So use the small no service gas stations it is usually the most cheap diesel t
