- 👉 In this video, we take a look at Playstation 2 emulation using the AetherSX2 emulator for Android on the Logitech G Cloud. We will take a look at 50 PS2 games running on the Logitech G Cloud, which has been one of my most requested videos and so this one will serve as a demonstration of some of the capabilities of the Snapdragon 720G and the Logitech G Cloud when it comes to Playstation 2 emulation. I think the results will be pleasantly surprising so Join me, the Retro Tech Dad, as we explore more of the Playstation 2 library but this time using Logitech’s G Cloud handheld.

PS2 is such a beast, so many great games! 💗
To be honest: there are better options regarding the price. But: high quality controls and one of the best displays (very accurate color) is hard to ignore. I just want play SNES + PS1/PS2 and for this it is perfect. And should the device have problems: Logitechs support is much better compared to retro handheld producers. Thank you for making me choosing this fine devices. And I really like that you are using the official logos of the games. I like that extra piece of work.

How you make it so the games work with the g cloud controls? so far only showing touch screen controlls.. i;m trying to play simpsons hit and run.
Curious if you could test gran turismo 4 on the device. Id like to see how one specific track runs and that is the Special Stage Route 5. Its a night time course and it seems to lag on some devices. Curious if the g cloud can handle gt4 and that track.
I would have liked to see From Software games emulated on this. I want to revisit playing Eternal Ring and Kings Field IV The Ancient City. It would have been nice to see the Fatal Frame series of games running on it. I’m considering getting this.

Can you advise me the best controller for Android phones using Cpu Snap 8 gen 1 plus? To play well the Aethersx2 emulator, which controller should I choose? Bluetooth or Type C, which is better? Please advise me 2 types, 1 best affordable price and 1 premium price for long-term use. Should I use the handle that attaches directly to the phone or the larger one? I wanted it to be convenient and easy to carry. Does AETHERSX2 work well on iPhone? Should I use iPhone or Android to be smoother?

Any reason in particular you chose PAL versions of the games? My guess is the 50hz that PAL uses. I normally use NTSC but wanted to know if there was a big difference.
Yes, that is exactly why! It helps with performance in terms of 50 vs 60 fps. 🙏

Hello! Tell me please, does the version of the loaded BIOS affect performance? And, do you have problem with games like NSF Underground 2? I have a problem in games, the sound is very distorted and lags...
It doesn't usually but you could always try a different BIOS. I recommend using the PAL versions of the games for slightly better performance.

How well would sports games like madden or ncaa football run on this handheld?
I haven't tested those specifically but I think they should run even if it's at native resolution.

No, unfortunately it does not support it. The closest you will get is using something like an HDMI cable that has MHL built in: amzn.to/3CbTn68 . This is an okay solution but comes with its own issues.

Unfortunately, the G Cloud is only available in the US and Canada. 😭 They have stated they plan to do a larger release but it's been a few months already since it launched.

Does the size of the ROM file cause any issues? I heard that the G Cloud uses FAT 32 storage which limits roms to under 5GB
Yes, it does which really is annoying but manageable. I converted my files to the CHD format which helps get the file size down under the FAT32 limit. For the games that can't quite compress that small, I place them on the internal storage.
@@retrotechdad I'm having issues with "can't use this folder to protect your privacy" when adding my paths for the roms. Any way around this?
I definitely know what you are talking about. I usually create a folder within "Downloads" on either the SD or Internal storage such as "PS2" and then place files in there.
The created PS2 folder should allow you to bypass that issue. You will probably have to allow it access to the folder that you created but it will prompt you to do that within AetherSX2 when adding the path.
@@retrotechdad Thanks. I'm trying to use the Daijisho front end and it won't recognize any sub-folder that I make within Downloads on the SD. I'll try using standalone emulators and see if that works.
EDIT: Never mind, I made a sub folder like you said and used retroarch as the emulator and everything is working now, thanks a lot.
What about outrun 2?
I'm very surprised of how well the gcloud handles Ps2 games, I wouldn't have said it by seeing the SD720.
I do have a smartphone with am SD870 so there's a gap there, but still, just for the screen size, well worth to play it on the gcloud.

Will The Logitech G CLOUD Play PS2 And Gamecube In Perfect Full Speed Will It Play On TV If It Does How
No, it will not play all PS2/GC in full speed. There are a good number of games from both libraries that will work but harder to run titles will not.
The G Cloud has video out through the USB C now so you can play on a TV using a USB C to HDMI cable.
How does this compare to the T618?
It will mostly do better compared to the T618, there might be an odd game or two depending on the console.
The few PS2 games I've tried on my G Cloud run like ass. Gonna have to stick to my Odin 2 for PS2.

Great vid! I don't have a G-Cloud but I got an RP3+ and since it's a tad bit more powerful, at least I know what other games will work well on it. :)
How did you do screen capturing? I know it has no video out, did you use a screen recorder? It does seem a tad bit slower.

The G Cloud is actually more powerful than the RP3+. The SD720g is more effective and powerful than the Tiger T618. The Tiger T618 does have a slightly higher clock on the GPU (850MHz vs 750MHz) but the Adreno 618 has 4x the shading units and a higher version of Vulkan and DirectX. The SD720g is more balanced, efficient, and outputs better performance.
I'm using the built-in screen recorder in Android. It's a good solution to get the footage but can impact performance sometimes.

Very true. Unisoc T618 is not a slug, but sd720 is clearly more powerful.
Also it is not given that games which run well on the sd720 would automatically do so too on another processor of around the same power.
For instance, my sd860 phone is in most tasks as powerful as my d900 Odin. Nevertheless the one plays a game no problem, the other one struggles. And on next occasion: the other way around.

@@clausjahnel5379 Yes, this is very true! The Odin Lite vs Odin Pro is the perfect example of that.
One benefit to the 720G is the support for custom drivers in emulators like Skyline and Vita3k.
Could've gotten a used one for $80 😢but it was locked device...

No, I have it set to portable storage. I definitely recommend keeping the games on the internal storage when possible.

It's Android based so it gets to enjoy all of the benefits of that including emulation such as PS2 with AetherSX2. 😁

The widescreen hack works great for a lot of the games.
Some PS2 games have 16:9 support
