It's not powerful enough for Xbox, PS2/PS3 games, I'm thinking about move to Steamdeck, but at the Sametime I'm thinking about just keep it for retro 90s gaming, play GBA, NDS, and PSP meanwhile I use Moonlight/Sunshine to stream big titles from my gaming pc: Wii U, Transformers for PC, Injustice from Xenia etc

    so glad people are catching on! i sold my steamdeck a few months back when i realized the deck was fulfilling the same task but in a bulkier format. i already have a decent gaming PC with all my games and none of the graphical compromises + local streaming is amazing now. it just makes sense! the rumble on this thing is also pretty amazing, it even replicates some of those more subtle vibrations when streaming my PS5. sound on the built in speakers is bomb too! anyway great review, i love hearing you talk about stuff - it calms me somehow.

I picked mine up for $175 at a local pawn shop it was still sealed never been opened so couldn't pass it up figured if I used it for a few weeks and didn't like it I could put it on offer up for a little more than I paid for it but ended up loving it.

    As an owner of this (I bought it "refurb'd" on ebay), I use it for streaming and lower end emulators (I use it up to PSP) I LOVE the screen and the controls are also pretty good, but the battery life is killer. I'm using my RG556 for my streaming device. The sticks aren't the best for shooters, but fine for games like No More Heroes 3. The OLED really makes the difference. Put down my ROG Ally all weekend to use the RG556. I wish they would do a G-Cloud 2 with an OLED, more memory, and a better processor. The $300-350 would make sense then. I don't have a G-Cloud myself, I don't think I will buy one, but when I used it at best buy, it did feel really good in the hands.

    • @TechDweeb

Because they are short sticks, they are a bit more sensitive.I turn down the sensitivity in the game I played. Got 38 kills in a hardcore Call duty MW3 streaming from the Xbox to the RG556. This is one of those devices where you realise that tech specs are not the be all and end all. It's such a well thought out product that is really easy to pick up and play, making gaming convenient again. The ergonomics and weight are fantastic, the big screen is really immersive, great battery and the controls are, er, fine.
    If your use case fits, it's brilliant at game streaming around the home and emulation is great up to PS1, PSP, Dreamcast. As a Father of two young kids, it's allowed me to enjoy the Xbox SX at an extremely time-poor time of life! (and no, a phone in a grip didn't come close).
    Tis a bit pricey though...

    • @-shikajin-4078
      @-shikajin-4078 7 месяцев назад

      I mean, not to be that guy, but specs ARE very important if you plan on doing anything other than Cloud gaming on this device. Because I can just as easily do cloud gaming on a cheap Android phone with a controller attached and an internet connection. If it were cheaper, it would absolutely be worth it though.

    • @JamesPickett1977
      @JamesPickett1977 7 месяцев назад

      Sure. I did say 'If your use case fits' to support my view. The point I'm trying to make is about quality of experience. I have a GameSir X2 for my phone and it's fine, but the GCloud is waaaay better for all the reasons I gave and I can pick it up and be gaming in seconds. It's just great to live with is all 😊

    • @-shikajin-4078
      @-shikajin-4078 7 месяцев назад

      @@JamesPickett1977 I'm not disagreeing with you as far as the experience is concerned. And I wouldn't make a big deal out of it should it be a one-of-a-kind product that offered you a premium Game Pass gaming experience. But having something like the Steam Deck in the market for only a slightly bigger pricetag than this makes this product obsolete, in my opinion. The only real advantage I can see in buying this handheld over gaming on your phone is the screen size.

      @TechDweeb  8 месяцев назад +2

      Totally. Although I would probably never bother with online streaming even if I had good net because I rarely leave my house and can do the local stuff. There's some weirdness with online streaming that I'm not a fan of. With GeForce Now at least. But I was surprised that it works so well even on Starlick, if I didn't have a gaming PC I'd definitely be living the streaming life.

    • @greenprotag
      @greenprotag 8 месяцев назад

      Agreed. I enjoy hosting my own cloud gaming. Local is great. Heck even remote on my own rigs are great up to a point. I enjoy the convenience of an "always on" lower powered system. I run 8th Gen i7 + A2000 machine. I have a 5800x3D & 3090, but that's overkill for 1080p@60fps. Playing on a TV or a handheld 1080p@60 is fine.

    yup, bought one and loved it. truly a cool device. That said, the dpad issues made me return it since i couldnt do a fireball in sf2 and half the reason i wanted it was to play sf2. I would LOVE a G Cloud 2 with fixed d-pad and more power. However the sales on this seem pretty low (example amazon shows sales numbers, and only 400 for this in the last month) so I'm not sure it'll happen :/. Plus I think such a "G Cloud 2" would need to cost 399, at which point it gets a bit more questionable.

      Yeah the screen on this is big and beautiful. I love my OLED screen on the deck but I was playing The Witcher 3 the other day and there was text in the menus that was super pixelated and hard to read. This had no problem with it. If only this was OLED...

    Local Streaming is so good ,....its the main reason I'm not upgrading from my Steam Deck LCD.
    For best results I use Moonlight/Sunshine along with HRC to change the resolution on my desktop to a 16*10 aspect ratio for full screen streaming on the Deck

  • @WHJunior
    @WHJunior 8 месяцев назад +1

    Ok, yes, it's nice. But you also said that about the Abxylute. Is the Logitech a hundred bucks better? I have the Abxylute (based primarily upon your review actually) and I love it, and XBox Cloud streaming is flawless. I would be very interested in seeing you do a head-to-head comparison between the two. For the price difference (I picked the Abxylute up on Ebay for $10) I would expect the Logitech to be significantly better, but I wonder - is it?

    • @djmorris666
      @djmorris666 8 месяцев назад

      It is. Better controls and ergonomics. Build quality is better and even streaming performance, especially xcloud and geforce now…

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah. I do think it's $100 better, personally. The controls and hand feel are definitely ahead of the ABXYlute. Still a great device though, and honestly an ABXYlute for $100 is gonna be hard to top! (I assume you meant to type $100? If not, WOW!)

    • @WHJunior
      @WHJunior 8 месяцев назад

      Oh, yeah, typo. It was supposed to say $100. And I did do a lot of hunting and comparison shopping on Ebay, but there was never anything close with the price, and I think if there had been, I probably would have gone with the Logitech, but I could not justify the additional cost. The good news is, they are both great at what they were meant to do. I will say, the stick controls are a little overly sensitive for my taste, and I am not deep enough into it to know how to tweak that. If you can point in the right direction, I would be eternally grateful!@@TechDweeb

    if they mad the local processing power more, than this would be such a good buy, I love android gaming on the go, and I love emulating stuff, but this just feels like I would be confined to my home, for which I could just use my gaming laptop, with a controller (which is what I do), and is much more comfortable as I can actually use a good controller, and I get a bigger screen, with it generally just laying on my stomach, that is my issue with this device, it just doesn't do anything new, only if it was a more powerful android device would it then make sense for someone like me to buy it.

    9:53 ExFAT has no file size limitation so I think you mean just FAT32, which is a pain. Here in the U.K. it costs £329 which is way too close to the base Steam Deck which you can to use to stream, play locally and emulate nearly everything. The battery on the LCD Steam Deck, while not amazing, is fine for streaming. I’m sorry but the G Cloud is overpriced, extremely limited and there are many better alternatives on the market today.

    Question why not use the moonlight plug-in on steam deck? You can even get HDR?

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  8 месяцев назад +1

      You can totally do that. The benefits of the GCloud over the deck (for streaming) is that you get 1080p 16:9, a lighter device, and 12+ hours of battery life. I mean both are great experiences, but it's those reasons that I'd be more likely to grab this than the Deck for streaming.

    • @Dracossaint

      That's very fair and it's totally subjective. Yeah streaming is not great with 16x10 sometimes

    The only reason why G-Cloud fail is the price, for a performance par on Retroid Pocket 3 Plus but almost as expensive as Steamdeck LCD 64 GB, i wish they lowered the price and sell it around $150-199

  • @w00dani
    @w00dani 8 месяцев назад

    You mentioned the G-Cloud only supports SD cards formatted as FAT32 or exFAT and then mentioned the 4GB file size limit. Only FAT32 has the 4GB file size limit. exFAT has not practical file size limit. If the G-Cloud does indeed support exFAT then that is a non-issue.

    • @gabedamien
      @gabedamien 8 месяцев назад

      I would have to go back through the video to check, but I think he was saying that the specific emulator requires that formatting, not the G Cloud itself - but I am not sure. Need to review.

    I just beat Armored Core Vi streaming from my Xbox. Runs much better than natively on the Steamdeck. Copy that with FFVII Remake and other higher end gaming. Steamdeck may bake more sense for lighter PC games, but the G Cloud is fantastic otherwise

      Yup! I'm a big fan of that method. Although I would personally choose the gcloud over that because of the huge screen, and also I hate not being able to use my phone for stuff while I'm gaming on it. I will always choose a dedicated device when I can.
