Interesting video. Looks like the line was possibly doubled tracked at one time.

Around the base of bridge support structures is often placed what they call rick-rack, or riffraff which is rubble and debris of every sort. This breaks the swirling flow of passing water which could otherwise undermine the ground/footings of the support structures. You need to know that so to be able to rightly distinguish rickrack from actual ancient crumbling or melted structures in the area you're exploring in.
Tops photography too by the way - just using your phone? Its good - steady hand too. Much appreciated, cheers from lil ol me (in Australia)... been to the States ages ago - sure looks nice.

Hanging on the side of the bridge are telegraph bridge hangers for the wires.

The thing needs to be painted before the rust of 100 years makes the bridge the lead story on six o'clock news.

The concrete base that you showed was the base for a right-of-way automatic block signal, which tells me that was a busy right-of-way years ago…. Deregulation started in the mid 80’s eliminated many of these subdivisions and if you walk either direction you will find another usely spaced 6,200 feet apart give or take the max speed allowed, hope this helps …

@@kurtis47 Kurtis, all those pieces of infrastructure your finding, ballast/gravel are all part of the dismantling of the older wood railroad bridge structure that gave away to the heavier steam engines that were being used during the industrial revolution also there had to have been a “ pump house “ to supply water for those massive brick structures that you showed in one of your videos…All that cut stone that you showed was lifted in place by steam cranes from the river and any excess was just leveled off, with not knowing the history and water levels during construction the cranes were probably assembled on site and don’t forget the number of “ immigrants “ that came to our country for work to which they built many tunnels and bridge projects….
Local libraries can help with any of your research that you can put to video and build your channel … good day …
