- This is the LONGEST ABANDONED Train Bridge that I ever crossed!
Hey everyone, in this video myself, RJ & Jake venture out to locate and cross an abandoned train bridge. Once arriving at the location, it wasn't what I expected. Although the rails are gone, the bridge has a solid floor which made crossing a bit easier. On our way across we discovered signs of another bridge and were hit with some strong winds. Once across, we discovered that there is even more to this location and research will explain what we found. So come along with us as we cross and explore the Longest Abandoned Train Bridge that we ever found. Enjoy

What did you think of this adventure? This definitely holds a record for me and I'm glad I was able to share it with everyone.
Very cool
it was all great history seen again the drone video was great too
Loved it; thank you! 🌝
I did notice that the Stop Sign reads; "Private Crossing". Could it be that the land on the other side of the tracks which is private uses that bridge as a way of travel to and from somewhere?? Why else would an old trestle have a concrete floor?? Only reason would be for small trucks or atv vehicles to travel on?
Great video Jay 👍
That is an absolutely amazing find! The existing bridge is impressive in its own right, then finding the remnants of the other concrete arch bridge was a nice bonus. I appreciate the old photos you were able to find and share too. My wish for that bridge would be that they convert it to a rail trail that we can bike across.
I love that sound on the tracks so soothing
Funny me too
Incredible drone footage JP, two amazing looking bridges.
These abandoned structures are amazing, thanks for bringing them back to life!!!!
Great vid, thanks for posting! I walked this bridge once myself way back in the 80's. Old RDG Catawissa Branch. Tower or Shack on the PRR/PC/D&H side was called Norca, (North Catawissa). Erie Lackawanna side was Rupert Yard, small but important interchange point for RDG RR until 1976.
This was just an Awesome explore! The scale at 16:05 stunning. What an incredible display of bridge engineering from way back when before all of us*your viewers) were even born. This is so historic I am VERY Happy you filmed this and shared it with us! Another 'Stellar' JPVideos vid!! 🔥 🌉 🔥
It's always a pleasure to document and share these incredible locations. Thanks for checking it out!
this would be the bridge that spans the susquehanna river from near Rupert,PA to near Catawissa,PA. I have walked it a few times myself. It is a nice bridge. It is near Bloomsburg where I am from. Thanks for the video guys.
I had no idea that the concrete bridge pre dated this one. I totally missed it on my hikes and I have never heard it talked about either in local history. Lived in Bloomsburg for 46 yrs also. Great find guys.
I only learned about it from doing research after we stumbled upon it. Amazing what is actually hidden out there.
Great documentary video here! THANKS!
Terrific video! Abandoned bridges like this are on my bucket list when I retire next month. Thanks so much for sharing!
Really beautiful stuff. Makes me want go explore! Thank you!
Great video. Thanks for posting this. Have a nice day.
Good to see you again ! I’ll be watching for more thanks .
Another awesome video and the drone was great. Thank-you for taking us along.
Great Video Fella's...Very neat stuff!
This was awesome, what a beautiful Old Bridge. Really enjoyed watching this one, glad you guys had a great day
Thanks for stopping by to check it out
I Loved every minute of this viidoe Historical and picturesque! Watching your video's. Is SOOO relaxing!
Amazing drone footage & still shots Jay! You have an incredible talent. That train bridge was so amazing!! Had to be cool walking across that & boy do I agree was very long. How fun was that. Thanks so much for taking us all along.🥰
Absolutely amazing! That bridge is enormous and then a bonus bridge! I love abandoned railroad stuff like this. I didn’t think the bridge was going to be so solid. I’d thought it’d be see thru like in between the ties and all rickety and I’d be like nope nope nope lol
If it was, it would be questionable if I would cross it. I was relieved to see a solid floor.
According to ACME Mapper this line labeled Conrail, so the tracks was still in use at least sometime after 1976. Great video!
@@user-ci9ri4fl5pBuckeyeChessie nice avatar, love Chessie System👍🏻
Yes me as well
That would make some railtrail!
Wow ...so many great features in this adventure.....awesome architecture , gorgeous view ,love the drone footage and frame worthy shots...( fun seeing the old photos too ) . ..Looks like you guys hit the jackpot in exploring on that trip . Thanks for sharing the fun .
It was a long trek to reach it but im glad it was accessible and that I was able to share it with everyone.
This was such a cool bridge. Wish there was old aerial photos of the past to compare. Good job.
This is a great 👌 old long treasle bridge and the remaining concrete bridge is really neat. The views were great too. Thank JP and friends for sharing.
Very cool bridge. Glad you shared it with us. Nice video and pictures.
Wow Amazing drone videos. Great job. Love it !!!
Awesome video and the find of that other bridge was pretty awesome
Outstanding Video!! Thanks!!
Beautiful bridge and river, thanks for taking us along, see you in the next one.👍🚂
Hi, JPVideos. That was so incredible. You know what? I will always give my BIG LIKE to all your videos. Always keep it up ya. 😊👍
I never watch a video over 15:00 long but I watched this start to finish. What a wonderful find. It breaks my heart to see such magnificent structures abandoned and never be used again for the purpose of what they were built for. I am an abandoned railroad junkie and every time I drive next to an old narrow gauge line and see all the hard work of shoveling massive hills out and filling deep ravines by hand in the 1800’s/early 1900’s and that work Is being reclaimed and taken over by nature to be almost unrecognizable any more. Same thing with all of the hard work put into these bridges. Especially the concrete bridge of 1911. Such hard backbreaking work that most people cant even begin to appreciate today.
I appreciate you watching
Very impressive! Thanks guys
Wow, what an incredibly beautiful and very impressive bridge, it really is huge!! Very cool, and as usual, I absolutely love the photomontage and music!!
Now I want to make a trip to walk this bridge. It's a real shame the RDG is gone but this bridge is a fantastic remnant of its once mighty past. Nicely done JP.
That was very interesting, especially the drone shots.
Awesome! Awesome! Adventure! That's one of the coolest abandoned bridges I've ever seen! Great adventure JP! Thanks for bringing us along!
I'm glad I was able to cross it, show it from the air and share some history on it to everyone.
Awesome footage wow! So glad you battle your fear of heights to bring us these great views Jay, Thanks! 🙏🙏🙏✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Having a solid floor definitely helps with me facing my fears
I really enjoyed the video especially the drone footage of the bridge. Waiting eagerly for next video.
I don't know why I have never seen this video. Thank you for thanking us along
I really enjoyed this video. It’s cool how it has been paved and able to cross!! The older bridge was also cool and in such good shape!! Thanks for sharing!!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen the carpet have little blooms!! 💖💙💖💙💖💙
😊
absolutey awesome...we gotta make a trip to that bridge!! Thanks!
Great video! Thank you 👍
You seem like such a genuine good and cool dude. Into railroading and abandoned structures. I love finding people online who have common interests.
Love the structures.have always been fascinated by abandoned rails. Thank You
wow what a beautiful Sight wow how cool that long bridge was awsome thanks again for sharing this video jp do it again buddy :D the Droid shots were amzaing
Love that drone view, with that 🎶🎵.
Great Video.
That drone footage was absolutely jaw-dropping! Nice work!
Awesome video. The drone shots are fantastic.
Nice video. Did I miss the part where the location was discussed? I went back and rewatched the beginning where I would expect to find such info but came away empty handed.
Some locations such as this one that arent highly known, I don't readily give the location so vandals dont flock and ruin it for others.
@@JPVideos81 Understood. I thought that might be the case. Thanks anyway.
awesome! all of it just awesome! the bridge, the extra find of the concrete part and the drone footage
JP, watched your short train bridge video and this one popped up in the corner. I missed seeing this back when you uploaded it. What a beautiful abandoned long train bridge! Absolutely beautiful scenery too! Very interesting. Really loved and enjoyed your video!
Glad you finally got to check out this one. Maybe I'll find a longer one sometime.
Absolutely beautiful views ty you for taking us with u
My pleasure 😊
Absolutely amazing! I love everything about this video! Miles and miles of bridge only to find another bridge. Awesome drone footage Jason. The view is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing another great adventure! ✌🏻🥰
Thanks for checking it out
Great video! Thanks. I really liked the historical pictures you were able to find on the old bridge ruins.
Thanks
Wow that is a long bridge. I liked the video and the pictures were awesome. Thanks for this adventure...
Thanks for watching Dottie
Great video !
Abandoned train tracks over a bridge and a train 🚂 flying by on the other bridge 👍
Couldn’t get much better than that 👍😊💕
They sure knew how to build bridges back then!!! I love it!
Hi JP, hope your doing great. Its been awhile since I saw your video. Can't wait. Thanks!
I LOVED THIS VIDEO! ONE OF MY FAVORITES! THE VIDEO FROM UP ABOVE, WITH THE MUSIC, ALL MOST MADE ME CRY. IT MADE ME REALLY GET INTO THE BEAUTY OF THE BRIDGE & SURROUNDINGS! ALSO, MADE ME THINK OF ALL THE HARD WORKING MAN THAT WORKED SO HARD BUILDING IT AND NOW THEY ARE ALL DIED! MAY THEY ALL REST IN PEACE!
THE PHOTOS AT THE END ARE JUST GORGEOUS! YOU ARE SUCH A GOOD PHOTOGRAPHER! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING SUCH A WONDERFUL, SHORT STORY & PHOTOS!
Wow! Great find of the previous bridge, interesting how it got filled in and almost hidden. Some stunning still shots and drone footage Jay. What river does this bridge go over? Great stuff, Thanks for bringing me along 😉👊👍
I believe the susquehanna
@@JPVideos81 thanks Jay
Amazing find, amazing video.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this and in fact viewed it twice! Extremely interesting and what stunning vistas!
Thanks so much
Just found your channel today... already watching everything... well done JP.. 👏✔👍
The drone footage is just completely STUNNING!!!!
isn't it amazing that all the old stuff that is still standing was built by the railroads.. bridges viaducts etc. amazing craftsmanship stuff built today needs repair or replaced in ten years. great vids of this magnificent bridge.
You guys are wonderful! I was thrilled to be along even in a video. Gorgeous.
Thanks for coming along with us
That was awesome video it was beautiful out there 👍
Wow what an amazing bridge and scenery just beautiful loving all the pebbles and stones on the ground those drone pics awsom JP 👍💙
Definitely cool,
Thanks Jay
Central California Watching
Wow great shots of that historic viaduct rail trestle located between Catawissa and Bloomsburg ,PA , over the mighty Susquehanna river. It says that first bridge was completed in 1855 😮
Great video of the bridge. Always love old bridges that are still standing
Thanks for watching
Drone footage is speechless ! What a long bridge and beautiful bridge. Loved this video. Thank you once again for taking us long with you
My pleasure
That place is so awesome!
This was a great video JP I really enjoyed it. I have crossed the Susquehanna River by car many times when I was a youngster we have relatives all over Pennsylvania, I grew up in Upstate NY, near Utica. We had many old rail lines such as this one. From my perspective watching this video and the floor your walking on, I would assume at one point or perhaps even still, that they want to make this a bike/walking trail? That gravel was put there on purpose by somebody? Very cool video thanks for sharing
I'll post updates if things change with this bridge.
Upstate NY h? You happen know a good recipe for steamed hams?
Amazing! Thanks for the beautiful view! Where is yhis bridge?
That paved piece is for highrail vehicles to put on and set off the tracks. The active line was the former Pennsylvania Railroad Wilkes-Barre Branch and the abandoned right of way is the Reading Catawissa Branch. There were two diamonds where the lines crossed. The diamond at the bridge was called NORCA (North Catawissa). There was another diamond just south of town along Catawissa Creek where the Reading Main crossed the Pennsylvania Railroad Rock Glen Branch to Tomhicken called RedPen (Reading Pennsylvania). The active line is now the Norfolk Southern Sunbury Line and is dark territory for most of the southern portion so trains move with written track authorities from the dispatcher because there are no signals to govern movement. Even today the name NORCA has been used on the track authorities as a copying location.
Thanks for the info
Amazing bridges! I often wonder how they built structures like that over 100 years ago. They didn’t have the means to do you things like they do today! Great find!
I agree. They didnt have the technology of today, but they seem to be built stronger than ever.
This was so awesome! The massive bridge was really a cool find then finding the old arched one, wow! Loved the drone footage with the clouds reflecting off the water. Aren't you glad this bridge had a solid bottom instead of like that other big one you faced your fears on? lol
Very happy about a solid floor
I miss seeing stuff like this on the east coast with the trees
Great views! I’m from NEPA, my friends and I used to party at an old firehouse that was mostly underground similar to the bridge towards the end of the video. It’s a concrete building, I believe 1909 or 1911, which along with the name of the town was carved into the concrete building itself. It was off of a set of train tracks and in the woods. It’s been a long time but I’m thinking of taking a walk to see if it’s still there. Anyway, great video. The views were awesome!
I love trains Jay. Great video. Kind of beautiful and Erie at the same time.
Great drone footage JP. Hey no pickin' on RJ - I love the outro outtakes 😂!
We always pick on each other. Makes for good laughs
Great video of the Reading RXR, Rupert Bridge. Keep the RXR videos coming!
Hi Jay. Awesome video. That looked like a cool place.
One of the coolest
Sweet Jpvideos thanks for sharing 👍😀
You bet!
Great photos
What an amazing adventure with some sweet finds along the way and many more memories to add to the collection. Also, wait until you all see my "rookie" outtro. 😉 Hands down my longest ever and funniest outtro. Lol.
Your outro was what I would call dessert "part 2" lol. Thanks for joining me for this incredible location.
@@JPVideos81 For sure. We definitely had a lot of fun as always.
Great video and photos. So glad the wind died down so you were able to get that beautiful drone footage! 👌💙 RJ is far braver than me. I'm with you, staying on the bridge. Lol!
😁
Beautiful bridge that looks like it could be converted into a trail with little trouble. Just stick some higher fences on the sides, block off the ladders and you have a trail from Catawissa to Bloomsburg!
Nice job jp👍
I can't believe what condition that old arch bridge id in. It's incredible.
Crossed this bridge several times when I was a kid. The Reading Line was active then. The last time I knew any thing of this abandoned line, a fellow from Catawissa PA bought the bridge and a tunnel on this railroad line in the disposition sale.
Do you have more info on the tunnel?
@@JPVideos81 Tunnel is on the same line and is located near Shumans, PA. Either end of the tunnel can be accessed. However, the easiest access is across private property.
Looks like you've already been there.
i feel you on the heights thing. i have a hard time getting anywhere near anything above 10ft and get that same apprehensive nervousness when others do such.
Hi there I enjoyed the video and the beautiful pictures thank you blessings
Fantastic find of yesteryear.....X-2!
Great Drone Pictures
The drone shots were the icing on the cake.
Thanks
Looks like it would make part of a great rail trail. Can't wait to bike it.
Wow great video Simply Amazing
Thank you
Oh dear, did I break wind?! 😝😝
Amazing video! I have to go and see that barring it’s not already torn down. Looove train bridges!
I can offer you a tour
I enjoy your train videos! Very interesting & the view is stunning 💙
Ty
Wow, what a monster of a bridge! The first time you showed the elongated pillars that extended out from under the junctures of the spans, I tried to remember what they're called. Although I've been a model railroader since the early '50s and a general "railfan" even before that, it took me quite a while to dredge up the name: "Piers!" What really impressed me was the drone footage showed the entire long bridge was skewed, built at a slant to the river, rather than straight across. This showed plainly from above, as the piers are aligned to parallel the river banks and water flow and the side trusses are staggered so the ends rest at an angle to each other. I can't remember, did you tell the number of spans in the information you put on the screen. The thing is truly impressive. Thanks for showing it to us, Jay.
9 through truss spans
@@JPVideos81 Thanks, Jay: none through truss spans, crossing the Susquehanna River at an angle---Wow! BTW, I forgot what they called it, but many railroad bridges had concrete floors, with regular ballast and tie roadbed over them. My guess is that it was original to the structure, not a refit at a later date. There were probably advantages to, maybe less vibration or ease of track maintenance. Any civil engineers reading this have "the skinny?" IMHO, the scenery is beautiful, bridge and all (but of course, I'm a train nut and prejudiced...)
Still in good enough shape for CSX to use.
Awesome video BTW.
That was fascinating - how I'd love to walk across that bridge!! Great scenery and drone shots too. Wear a hat JP to keep that hair of yours from getting in your eyes 👀!!!! 😂 Gill 🇬🇧
😁
