  • This is what a CRT TV sounded like in Europe, where the horizontal scan rate was 15626 Hz. A tone at this frequency coming from the flyback transformer was clearly audible in the room where the TV was on. And even more, you could tell with your eyes closed whether the TV was on in the apartment or not. This tone is also included in this recording. Does it remind you of the experience of watching TV a few decades ago? Probably not, because after so many years, hardly anyone can hear 15625 Hz... But the sound is there. Ask the children what do they hear. You need good speakers or headphones. Additionally, the interlace effect is simulated here. Not very precisely, because with a frequency of 60 Hz instead of 50 Hz. It is not easy to achieve a flickering effect on YT that looks like interlace in a real CRT TV. Interlace simulation looks good on desktop computers with 60 Hz monitors and on phones with 60 Hz refresh rate.
