CCR is one of the all-time greats - every tune is muddy, swampy, bayou vibes... which makes it even crazier when you find out they're all from California.
Suzie Q was a great cruising song. After "Apocolypse Now", its hard to not visualize the playboy bunnies in Vietnam. CCR had a ton of great songs. One very underrated is their slower paced cover of LIttle Richard's hit "Good Golly Miss Molly". Not a deep song, but just fun and upbeat with great guitar.
When this first came we just thought this was a CCR song. Not a cover, But we were blown away by this song. John Fogerty is the singer and lead guitar player.
A great song by any standard. The long version is flat out mesmerizing, especially if you've been smoking some bud. It seems to go on forever, but in a good way. This is the definition of "Classic Rock." There is no music like this anymore, it's almost all crap!

I always assumed its a song about a guy meeting a girl he instantly falls for. Really awesome song, especially if you're got a good buzz. You should check out the full 8 minute 25 sec version if you like the riffs in the short version, the longer version will blow your mind.

Lil Hardin Armstrong was Louis Armstrong's first wife back in the 1920s. She was the pianist in his band and she was a songwriter as well. You should react to Louis Armstrong. He was one of the most important figures in the history of jazz and music of the 20th century. His career ran from the 1920s to the 1960s.

Hindsight. These old bands took advantage of stereo in a really interesting way that has been absent for years. Well and anyway the music was of better quality also but you never hear stereo used to completely separate tracks like this now and haven't for many years
Suzie Q was an Old Blues Song. Alot of Musicians covered Obscure R & B Songs. Sadly enough Tom Fogerty The Fellow with The Beard & Drummer for the Band died of AIDS related illness after receiving tainted blood. You may have heard hard Bad Moon Rising in The Big Chill. If you Can check out Travelling Band where you see them in Concert and how the fans love to hear them. Also you also see how Little Richard influenced them. Also sang all the way to the Bank when "Proud Mary" was covered by Ike & Tina Turner
The original version was made in 1957 years before America got mired in that nasty and pointless war. CCR did an excellent cover and one I suggest as a good listen and one more fitting for a movie about that war is "Run Through the Jungle" as it gets the fear and paranoia of the soldiers and even young people back home better that a love song. CCR rocked!
So glad to hear you with this one. It was first big hit by CCR and epic songwriter and (unique) vocalist, John FOGERTY in about '68. There's probably a little lost on you because uniqueness of that era...like occasional music interludes that reflected so-called psychedelic era or culture that stemmed from use of LSD or "mushrooms" by many musicians of that era. CCR had rep for NOT doing that but they would weave a little of that sound in with their unique blend of two parts "swamp rock (FOGERTY drew a lot of inspiration for many of his songs from Louisiana), one part folk music...though Fogerty claimed they were simply a rock band. You said something about "war," but didn't follow you on that point. All I can say to that is that this song, like many CCR songs during their short, three-yr hay day, was very popular with our soldiers during Vietnam War. GREEN RIVER and DOWN ON THE CORNER...two more jewels from the pen and mouth of JF.
I think almost every school had a Suzy Q. I know we did and I had a huge crush on her right up to the day she left for California. Alas I was stuck in the friend zone forever because I didn't make my move. I used this experience to do better with other girls. Suzy Q changed my life! Lol
Have you reacted to "Society's Child" or "At 17" by Janis Ian? She wrote "Society's Child" when she was 14. It was a very controversial song in 1966. Some radio stations refused to play it. Janis also got some flak for her looks as well, similar to Janis Joplin.
Hey India, I wish you had been around when this song came out. It was CCR's first hit and the first of many hits very quickly in the next three. It seemed that not six months passed that CCR didn't have yet another song on the radio! But this was their first national hit and exhibited John Fogerty's bluesy lead guitar playing! India, it sneaked up on you while you were listening to it in you car, driving around. Suddenly you were tapping your feets and bobbing your head to the music.
I believe this is the first music I bought....in the middle sixties 67 or 68.........I bought the 45rpm and also loved the Susie Q part two on the flip side....very psychedelic................still have the record I believe!

CCR did this song as their firt hit (Out of VERY Many) because John (John Fogerty) did not want to mix and produce one of his own on their first CCR Release." Porterville" is the Best song on the LP. John followed this up with two horrible songs (LOL _ Obviously Kidding) "Born On a Bayou" and" Proud Mary" (Bayou Country) And the rest is: Rock Hisory.. so to say. Do CCR's Cover of "Heard it Through the Grapvine". That will blow you away!! As stated, you need to listen to the Long LP Version of this from 1968

There are a great many songs that were written and performed but never made it to the top 100 until they were performed by a better know singer or group. It is the irony of life that often the creators never get their due.

I don't know if you see any of these but You have to try Frankenstein by Edgar Winter. Nothing like these guys who were great. Creedence did an album called Bayou Country which you might really enjoy.
