This new format is wonderful. Yumiko Alexander is a new to me designer and I know I will be knitting some of her designs. And her yarn is perfect for Texas.
Barbara, this was a fantastic review of Yumiko’s designs. Thank you for doing this. I just subscribed and will be watching more of you. Yumiko is a friend of mine and I have made several of her designs and always get compliments when I wear them. Yumiko is also a wonderful person. She is kind, generous and humble about all of her accomplishments!
I really enjoyed this Fave 5! I liked the screen grab, it feels so much more interactive even though all I'm doing is watching still. ;) I loved the Meander and have some special yarn that I was waiting for it to tell me what it wants to be and I think that's it!
I loved this video. I had already come across her patterns and loved them straight away but it was really interesting to her you talking about the patterns
Thank you for introducing me to her. I am a self taught knitter. I mainly crochet but am wanting to broaden my horizons as they say. She has beautiful work that looks like I might be able to do. I'm willing to try anyway.
Great new format 💞. Always liked your Fave 5 but this was fabulous. That designer is really a queen of rectangles. Hard to decide for a favourite. As I crochet as well I will have to check her out. Great find and thanks for charing.👍💚
I have her rustic crochet book! I absolutely love it. I do think it's a little limited when it comes to sizing. The person I crocheted for is a US14 ish maybe 16? And even though it was a poncho type pattern I ended up adding to the bottom so it didn't look awkward on her. Really important to make a swatch for gage, and decide if you will need to make changes if you are larger than a 12US! Don't assume a L/XL will be what you think it will.
Yes I too like Yumiko Alexandra, I made the Meadows Night. The yarn was a fine cotton tape that you held double. Also it had an unusual pattern stitch on the hem. Made it extra interesting. She does live her in Arizona and used to come to one of my favorite shops, sadly it closed last year.
Thank you for introducing a new designer to me. I like your idea of spotlighting one designer. I like all of the ones you chose, but I really like Sybill, but of the ones you chose, Shaina may be in a future knit, although Mesa may be in the future.
The only thing I don’t like about this suggestion is that I didn’t come up with it. Great to be introduced to new designers. Ravelry can be so overwhelming that I don’t even try.
Hi Barbara, Have a suggestion on favor 5 patterns. Patterns that would show off handspun yarns. After just finishing the Tour of the Fleece, I have added to my collection of handspun yarns. I do not spin art yarn but sport weight yarn, and love added silk to my fiber, witch makes it soft. Would love to see ideas on things to knit. I’m sure there are lots of others who spin, who love to see your suggestions. Thank you so much for even reading my post.
WatchBarbaraKnit I can not answer for other spinners, but a good amount of spinners only work with 4 oz of fiber at a time, that the size of a brad of fiber. After collecting fiber u spun, what to do with 4 ozs of spun yarn. I used some in Steven West patterns.
Thanks for this overview. Her designs are pretty, but not really my style. Still, I really like the idea of using rectangles or squares for construction. I know that you do a lot of intricate (for me) lace shawls, but do you teach any design classes? Any suggestions on learning this? There is a book in my cart on Amazon with patterns derived from squares and rectangles, but that is the only one I've seen.
I'm afraid I do not teach any design classes and if I did they wouldn't be about garments LOL. That's not my area of expertise. I'm super curious what book you found tho - sounds like one I would like.
Thank you, Barbara, for sharing the amazing Yumiko Alexander and her designs. I’m currently working on her Meander Tee and knit her Smoke top a few years ago.
Lovely! Thank you Barbara. 👋
This new format is wonderful. Yumiko Alexander is a new to me designer and I know I will be knitting some of her designs. And her yarn is perfect for Texas.
It is so perfect for warm weather areas!
Thanks for spotlighting the designers
Honestly, it was one of my goals in starting this channel in the first place. I am glad you enjoyed the video.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting her at TNNA and am a wee bit jealous if you get to see her regularly. I agree that she is a lovely person!
Great video, thank you. Love all of Yumiko’s designs! You said it.... Magic!
They are gorgeous!
Barbara your use of Ravelry really helped with viewing the patterns. I like this segment do another one.
I'm trying to decide if I should use the screen grab for regular Fave 5s as well?
@@WatchBarbaraKnit I think that would be nice.
Oh my stars! What beautiful designs! I just love them all. No throw outs here!
Love this Fav5. Love the other formats also!
YAY!
This is a great idea! So many talented, amazing designers that never get the huge attention they should! Thanks, Barbara
I totally agree. I am always awed.

It's great to hear the feedback. I might switch over to the screen grab for regular Fave 5 too.
I loved this video. I had already come across her patterns and loved them straight away but it was really interesting to her you talking about the patterns
And she has designed so many lovely things since this video!
I love her designs! I am working on the "Low Tide" right now. ❤
I'm sure it will be awesome when you are done.
What a great new fave five. I loved a closer look at a designer. Thanks. I just love your videos and patterns.
I'm so glad you liked it.
I love your regular Fav five! This idea is Grreat! ~Marie
That's great to hear!
Ooooh, going to check her designs out right after the video! Gorgeous!
Yay!
So cool. Love so many of her designs so simple but elegant. Especially the first Asymetrical one.
Those are two perfect adjectives for her work.
Thank you for introducing me to her. I am a self taught knitter. I mainly crochet but am wanting to broaden my horizons as they say. She has beautiful work that looks like I might be able to do. I'm willing to try anyway.
Well, she has lots of crochet stuff too. She's a double threat!
Yes, I love this new version of fave five. Exploring one designer is great.
Thank you for the feedback!

I don't know much about crochet, but I know what I think is pretty LOL
Wow, these are some nice choices and totally new to me.
Yay! That's my goal!
Your videos are amazing! Love your sense of humor too: "...the shawl on my silent partner..." ROFL These are beautiful designs.
LOL
Yea Barbara I'm loving this fave 5 idea!
Beautiful knit designs.
Thanks for sharing it with us.
Yarney love
Pam
Yay!
Thank you, I love all these patterns 🧶
That is fantastic!
You definitely found a great designer. I have never knit lace, but I would love to attempt to knit one of her designs. Thank you for sharing,
She has a lot of non-lace stuff. I'm just drawn to lace LOL. A lot of her stuff looks lacy when it's not because it's knit on big needles.
Love this format! Great patterns🧶
Yay! Should I use the screen share for regular Fave 5 too?

Yeah - it's really important to look at the actual measurements listed on patterns because every designer uses different standards.

That is always sad. We carry her yarn in my store and it is so lovely.

Love This addition to the fave five format.
Yay!
That was great! I enjoyed that, and it's a neat idea for a new fave 5.
Wonderful!
Love that awesome mauve berry colour it’s so pretty 💖💖💖
The yarn is stunning!
The only thing I don’t like about this suggestion is that I didn’t come up with it. Great to be introduced to new designers. Ravelry can be so overwhelming that I don’t even try.
LOL. I try my best to listen and y'all often have amazing ideas.
Does she have a personal web page? Beautiful pieces!
Yes. It is linked in the description notes.

Since I don't spin I've been trying to figure out what spinners look for in a pattern. But I can give it a go.
WatchBarbaraKnit I found this pattern awhile back. I never made it but a friend has.

Yes, that's a very good fave 5.
I'm glad liked it!
Yes I should have said number 5 💖💖💖
LOL, that's OK.
I can knit & crochet!
Excellent, you can do them all then!
Thank you, Barbara, for sharing the amazing Yumiko Alexander and her designs. I’m currently working on her Meander Tee and knit her Smoke top a few years ago.
Oooh, I am sure you will love wearing those!
off to ravelry ...to check out one of the patterns you didn't choose ...to be fair you did stop and give it particular mention ;-)
LOL! It was so hard to choose 5.
