  • Are your low frequencies not hitting as hard as you'd like? 🤔 Don't worry, you're not alone as this is a very common problem.
    In this video, we explore phase issues and phase cancellation to uncover why your low end might be sounding weak or muddy.
    Understanding phase issues is crucial for any audio engineer or music producer, as they can significantly impact the overall quality of your mix.
    When two audio signals are out of phase with each other, they can cancel each other out, resulting in a loss of volume and clarity, especially in the low frequencies. This phenomenon, known as phase cancellation, can leave your mix sounding thin and lacking the punch you desire.
    In this comprehensive guide, we'll walk you through visually identifying phase issues in your mix and provide practical tips on how to audibly confirm their presence. From there, we'll explore various methods for correcting phase cancellation, including shifting phase alignment, manually adjusting timing, and even reversing polarity.
    Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, mastering phase alignment between sounds is essential for achieving a professional-sounding mix. By addressing phase issues head-on, you'll unlock the full potential of your low end, ensuring that it hits with the impact and clarity it deserves.
    So if you've ever struggled with a weak or muddy low end, this video is a must-watch! Join me as I demystify phase cancellation and arm you with the tools and techniques you need to take your mixes to the next level. 💥🎶

      Definitely - this one is a bit dense but SUPER important. Big shoutout to Xpress AKA DJ XP who produced both of the tracks I used in this video - he definitely knows what he's doing. You can find links to those tracks in the description (although one is still in progress and won't be out for a few weeks/months so I'll have to update that upon its release)

      @5piece Thank you.. Quick question.. When mixing with a 2 track beat would you use soft clipping on the mix bus or just the 2 track beat?

      @@xaronwhite5376working on a soft clipping video funny enough but to answer your question….both potentially 👀 very slight soft clip on a 2-track if it’s peaking (although you can manually create headroom like I showed you in my previous video). You can also apply a soft clipper to the master, especially in series with a limiter, to preserve headroom and ultimately drive up the level. More on this coming soon when I get this video together but hopefully this helps in the short term 🙏🏼

    Hey 5 quick question Do you clip your drums, mix bus and vocals separately, or do you just use a clipper on the mix bus?

    • @5piece
      @5piece  3 месяца назад

      All options under the sun my friend! Currently editing a clipping-focused video right now which should be out in about 2 weeks or less, so that will help provide some answers on applying it to individual tracks, groups and masters ✅
      BUT to give an answer here in the short term, I will absolutely clip individual sounds (transient dense ones specifically) and potentially groups and masters as well strategically.
      Individual sounds can be better to clip due to intermodulation that takes place during the clipping process and the harmonics it produces, which can at times negatively affect a group of multiple sounds (including masters) but I don't let that deter me from clipping groups or masters either if it sounds good. Really you just gotta pay attention and make sure what you're doing isn't too much! Hope this helps.
