- This Mother's Day give your mom what she really wants at brunch: Alcohol. Today I present the brunch staple: the Pimm's Cup!
**********************************
The Pimm's cup is a low ABV long drink that's a bouquet of fruit and vegetation stuffed in a glass (or pitcher) and built over crushed ice. It's delicious and fun to drink and I'm sure you'll love it. Pimm's is a liqueur produced by adding spices and botanicals to Gin (at least in the case of Pimm's #1, Pimm's #2-#6 utilize different base spirits) and it's the official drink of Wimbledon. It's a mildly earthy, herbaceous, sophisticated tasting sip, and it's downright good. Presentation in this cocktail is sort of key though, like a gentlemen from Surrey a Pimm's must be properly dressed. Feel free to go wild with the fruit and veg here. Temper you're inclinations to turn this into a baseball game Bloody Mary though: hold the pickles and bacon.
In the UK they's say this drink is made using "Lemonade" but their definition of Lemonade is way different than ours here in the states. In the US we typically use some kind of lemon-lime soda, like Spirte or 7up. But we can and should do better, look to something more bitter like Fever Tree or San Pelegrino.

my good man... can you help me out.. im looking of some nice drinks with kraken rum. i have seen other videos ... but i dont trust them as much as i trust your palad and funny text. anyway thx for the help in advance
Why did you jigger the soda??? Just fill up the glass. The only thing you did was take out some of the fizz.
I'm sure this would be even better with Fentiman's Victorian Lemonade!
How To Drink should have made it in a pimps cup like archer.
As a Brit I have to point something out - San Pelegrino is not equivalent to British lemonade.
San Pelegrino is very nice, but has a very strong fresh lemon flavour. Normal British lemonade is flavoured with citrus oil, it has a much milder flavour. As such, the San Pelegrino will likely have completely dominated the flavour of the Pimms.
Normal British lemonade, like Whites or Schweppes can be used as a kind of sweet seltzer, great for fizzing up cordials and fruit juices without taking over the flavour. (Fresh orange juice + lemonade is a go-to hangover drink for me).
Something to try - take one of those Kool-Aid sachets (can only get on import in the UK) and instead of adding a cup of sugar and 2 quarts of water, just add 2 quarts of British lemonade.
PS - To anyone reading this who is British - word of warning: American products use ingredients not used in the EU - in this case the dye in the red Kool-Aid is EVIL, it will stain everything it touches - it's like handling pickled beetroot. I got some on my fingers and they were stained red for the rest of the day, I shit you not.

Oh dear...
PrototypeX669 this deserves more likes.
Such a Dad joke, I love it.
As a british person I feel obliged to say that strawberry and mint is the bare minimum required for a pimms and lemonade
Hmm, strawberry is optional IMO, but cucumber is mandatory.
Bert Reynolds: "Wait isn't it served in a silver chalice?"
Woodhouse: "No sir, you're thinking of a Pimp's cup"
I came here for this comment because i knew someone had to say it
Love the archer reference. Burt Reynolds was funny in that episode
I came here specifically to find this comment
now both of them are gone :(
As a Brit who has enjoyed many a Pimm's O'clock, my experience with it had always been to make a big pitcher of the stuff with wheels of cucumber and lemon, slices of strawberry and then just chunky bits of everything else muddled in with plain old ice cubes. And boom! Garden party / beer garden ready.
Are there really 5 Pimm's that aren't here Across the Pond?
@@WeirdPros Only in myth! There's a winter pimms which no ones drinks - Pimms No.1 is what we Brits think of when someone says: "It's Pimms O'Clock!"
Raymond Biskner Yeah, they’re pretty rare. Pimms No. 1 and No. 6 are the only bottles you’ll find easily.
@@WeirdPros specialist shops like gerrys in soho sell all the variations , i believe their has been 6 but some have been phased out, currently the ones available are number 1 (gin), number 3 AKA winter cup (brandy) and number 6 (vodka) thought thats a small batch so it harder to find.
I've only had #1 and #3. #3 is brandy-based and IIRC the serving suggestion is hot apple juice, apple slices & cloves.
Glenn Danzig impression to "its mothers day, let's do brunch!" This is why I watch this channel. Never change man!
Yes. Exactly this.
Makes me think of Archer when Burt Reynolds orders a Pimm's Cup in a silver chalice, a Pimp's Cup, if you will.
So Archer drink series? Please?
I’ve got one on the way, let’s see how that does
@@howtodrink I'll be waiting, but if I don't see that video I'll rub sand in your dead little eyes. I also need you to go get sand. I don't know how they grade it... but... coarse.
How To Drink don’t make me get the bowl of spiderwebs again
Peppermint Patty?
Perhaps the reason the drink was more savoury than you initially expected was down to your choice of soda. In England we don't use bitter style sodas like SP. It's always ALWAYS made with 7-UP/sprite style lemonade, which adds sweetness. It's also common to use some ginger ale in the recipe too, so you end up with a ratio of something like 1:2:0.5 Pimm's to lemonade to ginger ale. Also we tend to add more apple and strawberries as well as some orange to help add fruitiness and reinforce its identify as a summer drink. Try making one more according to this and see which you prefer
I have found here in the USA that I can obtain some VERY nice Italian carbonated lemonade, closest I've found to the stuff in England.
The same store also sells clementine soda....they use fresh juice to make it!
@@ryangrimm9305 it doesn't need to be anything nearly that artisanal or fancy. Just good old corner shop sprite or 7-UP
It’s got to be White’s
@@edwardlayer4259 I usually do Schweppes but White's is a classic too
3:51 I love a bit of glass with my ice, adds a nice crunch also that bloody undertone
Pro tip: Peligrino lemonata and bourbon make a quick whiskey sour!
this is true! Lemon soda and whiskey makes for a fantastic highball.
Great video as always Greg! I prefer ginger ale over lemonade but the Mrs. likes half n half..!
I feel like an opportunity was missed during the Marvel Avengers: Endgame run-up to make a drink with Pimm's, put some red colored ingredients in it, and call it "Pimm's Particle".
czadrozny yea that would be pretty funny. Especially if Tony suggested it back in time while getting more particles. In the future suddenly Pims Particle is a hot drink everywhere.
All jokes aside about your "wonderful" singing, I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy these episodes, in their entirety. The history, music, style, edits, slow-mo pours, even the lost drops of liquid that never get to fully realize their special purpose - getting Greg drunk for our RUclips enjoyment. Well done, good sirs and madams involved in making this fine show.
I'm a 6'2 300 lb Polynesian guy. This is my kind of drink right here.
I scrolled past too quickly and thought I read "300 lbs Pomeranian"
@@biohazard724 😆😆😆
My family (we’re Brits) always makes it with gingerale instead, and always a full jug with the fruit chopped up and stewed in the booze for about 20 minutes before adding the gingerale. My sister and I used to sneak the boozy strawberries and apples out of my parents glasses when we were kids. Best part of the summer
Also a better aproximation of british lemonade (at least the type you’d be looking for) would be sprite. Our clear fizzy lemonades don’t really have any of the tartness of the sanpellagrino. Its just pure sugar
Alright Greg. I used to work in a place in London where we made Pimms with ginger beer, and we boosted the ABV with a touch of Saffron Gin. These were good, good times
That sounds so much better than the Pimms I've had once... gotta try that, thanks!
Saffron Gin? Is that a name or is Saffron an ingredient?
Fabrisse It’s a brand of gin. It has a beautiful amber colour
The company who made it was Gabriel Boudier. There may be other kinds I suppose
@@expectationofplenty Thank you!
Yum! That really makes me curious about cocktails made with ginger soda or even a ginger infused simple syrup. I haven't heard of one before, but now that I'm thinking about it, a ginger cocktail sounds really good!

How to drink 2k19 to cucumber
I came to this comment just as he said it!!
Having lived (and drank) in the UK all my life - we definitely use sprite/7up whatever cheap lemonade is about - it's supposed to be a drink for the people who don't like drinking so it's sweet and fruity! We always made it in a jug too, with a lot more mint and orange depending on what was to hand. (also good for drinking almost neat with juice if you're 14 and sneaking it from your folks liquor cabinet). Love to see different interpretations!
Far more effort put into the fruit prep than most of us in the UK, but great presentation. Only tweak I would make is that sometimes you need a higher ratio of pins to lemonade, depending on the day you've had
A Brit here. Your pimms looks good :) somethings I’d change: less ice, way more fruit (I liked the ribbons but I traditionally just but in slices), and I don’t garnish with mint I put the mint in the drink (just something everyone I know does)
yess i was screaming when he put the mint as a garish. you need to be able to taste it
@@kateg1355 Interestingly, most of our experience of taste is actually just smell. Try smelling some mint as you drink water, and the water should actually taste minty. To be fair, I imagine the mint would be stronger if you muddled it into the drink, but I'm not sure. It could be an interesting experiment to try both muddling and garnishing with the mint and see how it affects the taste. I'd be very interested in the results of that haha
As a veteran bartender, your request for less ice isn't an action that I would take. Iced drinks, especially those containing fruit and soda must be iced to the rim. There's a fine line between an ice cold, fruity, effervescent refresher and a watery soupy meal of which the consumption becomes more of a chore than a priveledge.
I had my first Pimm’s Cup last month in New Orleans and I’m obsessed! I do an ounce of lemon juice, a couple teaspoons of sugar, a few mint leaves, cucumber muddled, one and a half ounces Pimm’s, shake, top with ginger ale. OMG. SUPERB!
Hey Greg, I got an idea for a video. You should do a tasting of all the different anise liquors (ouzo, sambuca, absinthe, etc)
Yesssssss. I support this theme wholeheartedly!
I support this. Raki and Arak are among the anise liquors. They themselves are interesting as the are Middle Eastern alcohols. Well technically raki is also made in the Balkans but Turkish raki is easier to find in the US
Don't forget South America! Aguardiente, Xtabentún, and Anís are all awesome.
Yes, yes, yes!
Don't forget Ricard!
Opening with Danzig, priceless! Happy Mother's Day everyone from NY!
In the UK we use orange not lemon and a sweet lemonade, usually R Whites which a ratio of 1 part Pimms and 3 parts lemonade
I've always made Pimm's cup using gingerale instead of sanpelegrino, but next time I'll try it like this!
It's probably my favourite drink. Wonderful on a summer's day.
Their Winter Cup is pretty decent in winter as well.
i like how youve been doing the tasting notes recently, really gives us folks at home a better idea of what flavors we might enjoy ourselves!
Finally San P being shown off in a drink
I've beem using them forever as mixers and never thought anyone else would do the same
God I love a pimms cup, not the most masculine drink but who cares they taste soo good, have it on a scorching hot day in a nice beer garden sitting the grass, just perfect. Great video as well 😉
Pimm Cup's to me are the first and last cocktail I ever had to learn to make at the horse races where I used to work bar. Making them were a lot of fun and a brief respite from slinging endless stubbies of XXXX.
Pimms reminds me of a nice, sunny, English Summers day. Tastes like the green and pleasant land . . .
Clicked this pretty fast. My buddy used to make a Pimm's bucket, he'd mix it all together, dump in ice and we'd just dip in cups then drink all afternoon. Pimm's reminds me of summer.
Try a slightly sweeter lemon soda like beverage as well at our local pubs (bars) they tend to use more of a soft drink it brings a whole different flavour palette very popular for summer bbqs and stuff 😊
pimms is a common drink for christmas here in australia
we make it in a punch bowl with ginger ale and as much fruit as possible.
The tasting notes are always the best. Fantastic video as always.
Thank you, Pimm's cup has been bothering me since Burt Reynolds ordered it in "Archer".
3:20, " Run that along my cucumber ". 😂😂
The most beautiful cocktail I’ve seen on that channel
As a child, was intrigued with the Pimms... for sure there were, 6 then? Lat 1950's we went to Devon for hols. beds in a pub. They served a Pimms for sure. The pub was decorated with shells of large shellfish. Nice time..!
Favorite channel to watch by far. Very happy my birthday fell on a Friday this year.
Happy Birthday!
This made me think about this guys who make boats inside of bottles. That's what it looked like when you try to get all the fruit and cucumber in there.
It felt that way too
@@howtodrink why not make "Gray punch" in another episode?
Most pleasant spring breakfast/brunch drink possible
Wife doesn't care for Bloody Mary's, I'll introduce her to a Pimm's Cup
hey greg, you seem like a cool uncle that has a bunch of random knowledge about random things. i love the aesthetic this channel exudes. you deserve 1M subs and more!!
Thank you!
My guests really loved their Pimm's Cup !!! A big thanks from Montreal !
That drink seems delightful.
I've only had these in NOLA and I love them.
Just wanted you to know that your videos have been as mesmerizing as a Bob Ross marathon. You come for 1 video and end up watching which zester is best. As always, great stuff
Last week I asked; this week I get! 😍
So glad to see my favorite summer drink.
Pimm's Drinker from Blighty here - The Lemonade/Lemon Soda that is often marketed with Pimm's (and sometimes sold premixed with in cans) is Schweppes Lemonade which is definitely closer to say a Sprite or a 7-Up than Sanpellegrino Limonata. We actually have a term specifically for that kind of lemonade here in the UK. We call it "Cloudy Lemonade". As a result, I have actually never tried Pimm's with a "Cloudy Lemonade". Always just the clear sweet stuff!
Never apologize to Glenn Danzig for anything. He deserves whatever slight he gets
*HUH*
I love that as a tasting note 🤣 your notes are on point as always
I love Pimms. I've never been lucky enough to go to Wimbledon, but I watched The Ashes at Lords cricket grounds and they love to serve Pimms too.
Ditch the strawberry as well as the apple and add some orange wedges and a bit more mint. Any clear lemonade without lime should do. Pimms is best made in a jug to develop flavour and more importantly, share especially at "family and friends" occasions :)
I'm in the twilight zone...I'm watching Archer for the first time, and just heard of this drink from one of the episodes. Awesome!
I want someone to hold me like you held that apple. Firmly yet so delicately.
The best part of drinking Pimm's and deciding what garnish/fruit you want to have with your drink is that there are recommendations on the back of each bottle, these vary depending of the Pimm's 'number', i prefer just strawberry's and mint, but like how you can tailor every drink to what you like.
Healthiest drink I've ever seen in a glass, love the presentation.....
All that fruit and veg would be delicious in water as like a flavor infusion as well. Like that just sounds so very refreshing. It would also be a cool way to make a drink similar if you have some lil ones or people who don’t drink.
I generally don’t put all the fruit in. Just a cucumber slice in the bottom of the glass and a slice on the rim. I like the way Pimms tastes
Drunk Greg brings me life.
A very nice looking twist on the classic, and very good for an individual serving. Of course, if you want to be really authentic, Pimms traditionally is made in a massive jug for outdoor summer events, and really ends up steeping all those fruits and flavours for a good while. Plenty of other people have commented on lemonade choices and such, but one could make it with cloudy British lemonade, which while a lot sweeter bears an awful lot more in common with sanpeligrino than a white lemonade (sprite, 7-up etc without the lime flavour) would.
I've wondered what is in a Pimms since reading Bridget Jones. Thank you!!
really do love the episodes where it is immediately evident that Greg has already shot a few and has a nice buzz going.
The garnishes are beyond godlike
This is art, you can't change my mind
As a Brit living in England, I would include cucumber, strawberries, small slice of Orange, medium slice of Lemon. Don’t forget a sprig of mint and plenty of crushed ice! 👀
I literally looked up whether or not you did an episode for this yesterday... thank you.
I found your channel, by chance, the other day. Been binging ever since. Thanks for being awesome!
We get Pimms BlackBerry and elderflower in Wisconsin. Mixed with lemonade, delicious.
I'm so glad you did this one. This is probably my favorite drink.
Gosh I love this channel and I don't even drink that much
Mama needs her 'Brunch Water'
These are the sorta drinks that dry ice helps with.
You can take the dry ice and use it to flash freeze the strawberry slices and cucumber ribbons into shape prior to use. That helps express the flavors from them as well as make them hold their shape prior to arranging the cup.
Normally the hardest part is an apple ribbon, since it can go brown, but, in this case, it could be dipped in some lemon juice prior to flash freezing. The liquor is brown, and the lemon juice makes it less evident.
Finally, Greg did an episode where he makes a really good Oleo-Sacrum, which can be thinned out with water and then carbonated with dry ice in place of orange/lemon soda, but a Soda Stream might.
If you're looking to increase the the alcohol content, lemoncello and/or sparkling white wines would probably be good additions.
Loved having pimms when I lived in London. But I always asked for it without cucumber because I found the cucumber taste a bit overpowering. Love me a sweet drink so orange and strawberry with pimms is my fave!
I love Pimm's, and this drink is also great to have like ten of throughout a summer afternoon somewhere nice outside, before going to some party or so. It gets you drunk, but not too drunk too fast. It's basically like rich peoples shandy :)
One of the summer favourites here in the UK. Good shit.
I love your videos and methodology, and all your recipes have been spot on until this. I have to comment just because this differs so much from what my understanding of a Pimm's Cup has always been. To be fair, I've always made it an American way without the soda, but my perfect recipe came from C-Grace here in Raleigh, NC:
1 standard pour Pimm's no. 1 (1.5oz)
1/2 standard pour gin (.75oz) (Beefeater is my go-to)
1 sprig fresh mint
1/2 lime, squeezed
top with spicy ginger beer/ale
Garnish with cucumber wheel
The key differences here is that the half standard pour of gin brings up the abv and highlights the gin base of the #1, and the ginger beer and fresh lime and cucumber gives it a nice highlight on that first sip. Maybe a little heavier than this recipe, but definitely recommend giving it a shot as it's my preferred method.
I looove Pimm’s!! I had many over my summers there.
In my Pimm's cup I use ginger beer, fresh lemon juice and I muddle a cucumber spear. The best garnish for a Pimm's cup.. A sprig of rosemary and some fresh thyme makes the smell while you drink it something you will never forget.
Greg, you’re really killing it with the “Tasting Notes” lately 😂👌🏻
1 Pimms : 2 Lemonade
Me: laughs in 1 Pimms : Dash of Lemonade
I love a Pimm's Cup, and your presentation is gorgeous. Thanks for the tips on getting the garnishes to look so pretty in the glass!
Come on, has to be made by the jug, not the glass :P. 50/50 lemonade and ginger ale is the best to add to the Pimm's.
Beautiful glass man, good job! Reminds me of a drink I make now and then with watermelon beet.
Aw hell yeah, it's Pimm's o'clock baybeeeeeee!
I love Pimms, but I must say that a really nice addition is ginger beer as well as the lemon soda, it adds a beautiful heat and freshness to the drink
If u want, what we do in England is we make this in a jug kinda like a sangria. So u can also build this in a jug with higher volumes, chill it for a day and serve it for a group at your parties. One of ny favourite drinks!
You also don’t have to use these fruits specific fruits, use fruits u like but I recommend using lime and lemon to add the slight bitterness the drink needs.
In the uk we just throw a bottle of pims and lemonade in a big drinks dispenser then dump a bunch of fruit in there.. this looks much nicer
Had one at Napoleon House in N’awlins and loved it. But your version sounds really refreshing, and probably doesn’t come with a voodoo curse. Or a back alley mugging.
The Danzig open has killed me. With joy.
I’m kind of surprised you didn’t go with the Napoleon House recipe from New Orleans, seeing as how they sell more pimm’s cups than any other establishment in America (that’s their claim, but backed by the fact that more pimm’s no. 1 is distributed to them than anywhere else).
Every time I go to Nola, I always stop at the Napoleon house for lunch and order a pimm’s cup there. Its juuuust right for day drinking l
As a Brit this looks perfect and I need one that looks this good now. Maybe some sun too.
Editing Greg strikes again with the tasting notes! Another great video! Thanks!
Pimm's is a staple of family barbeques where I live and one time, my fiancé's aunt made a Pimm's "punch" that barely had any lemonade in it and nearly killed us all!
if you can find it, Pimms has an estranged younger brother or sorts called Kamm & Sons, back when i was a young bar lad we acquired this bottle of mystery (brown and shaped like an old timey medicine bottle), said to be made of 45 botanicals (all cure-alls from around the world) i opened it and tasted it to decipher what to make with it and within minuets created one of my favourite drinks.
collins glass
ice
50ml Kamm & sons
125ml Bitter lemon (or lemon tonic)
and a grapefruit twist.
its summer in a glass (kinda tastes like lilt if you get that drink outside the uk).
I really enjoy these kinds of drinks that are just straight up overkill on the garnish.
I bloody live for these tasting notes lol
Pimm's cup = summer is coming.
(GOT pun intended)
As a Brit I agree with the fruit choice but we personally use a 50/50 split or lemonade and ginger ale to take it to the next level.
