  • Is Future Proofing your PC a thing of a past? NO, but it's getting A LOT easier, at least for GAMERS.
As a recent convert to PC gaming and the custom PC building community... I'm intrigued by the history of the whole ecosystem. This video looks at the upward trend of Minimum System Requirements over the last 23 years.
*DISCLAIMER* : This is a very small dataset that I've compiled, so don't read TOO much into it.
We know there's myriad factors that contribute to PC Game Developers decisions and I DO NOT know them all, but I speculate on some of them here. As always I'm no expert so take everything I'm saying with a grain of salt.
This IS NOT some huge revelation... I just wanted to share this trend I noticed with others.

spent close to 9K on a gaming rig .. 13900KS, 4090 Founders Edition, 128GB DDR5 5600MT, 1600W BeQuiet Dark13, ASUS ROG Maximus Hero Z790, Soundblaster AE9, Gen 5 M.2 Crucial 1TB x 1(running at Gen 5 speed). 3x2TB Samsung 990's, Samsung OLED G8, 2 other lower end monitors, and much more... And yet Diablo 4 crashes my computer almost always with in 5-10 min of play! Mind you, I can pass the 3DMark stress test at 98% and OCCT Stabiltiy .. but Diablo 4? ...

WOW.... I'm no mechanic... but this sounds like putting 87 octane in a race car.... won't run smooth.

What about screen and audio? 😁 That's where the entire experience comes alive. Skimping on those two peripherals imo is the biggest gaming sin! 😂

@@JamieR for Audio I have Creative Labs Sound Blaster AE9 card and Kanto Bookshelf speakers ... for a monitor, the Samsung G8 OLED .. don't worry, I did this right.

@@JamieR REALLY Good point... often people probably go WAY over the top on CPU / GPU but then get a $50 monitor off craigslist....

Problem is with lack of time and also lack of effort put in by developers in order to optimize the games. This is especially true with big game studios that are just looking after money and not creativity and optimization.
I tried Remnant II few days ago on my 3090, and it is impossible to get decent FPS without DLSS... sure, game looks nice, but it is nothing spectacular. On the other hand, I am playing Warhammer 40000 Boltgun on my Phenom 925 system with GTX 760 at a stable 85fps...

Maybe we'll just wait for the quantum computers.

2 Words: Console Gaming. People forget that the PS5 and Xbox Series has 10+ VRAM, I had to upgrade my RX 580 because I know that 12 GB VRAM will be the new minimum.

Well yes, the current maximum will one day be the new minimum…, the point of this is that you will have more time now

You can explain the upswing by Ocamz razor, there is a simple trend going on: these new games are just older games/engines reskined and made to run on newer potatos like the switch/phones

That’s a really good point… I didn’t factor in the handheld market at all. Although the titles I chose weren’t super conducive to mobile… but the broad dev world is probably really focused on that.

I also think you could build a state of the art Gen 4 system affordably and have it last you comfortably into Gen 6 🤷🏻‍♂️
