Moving to Roanoke from California in 4 months for all the reasons you listed. Also to live closer to my daughter and grandkids, but mostly the cost of living. Gas prices are currently 5.99 a gallon, bills are ridiculous and food is so expensive. Cant wait to find a new beginning
I so very much appreciate your videos, specially with our upcoming move next year. Would love to see a video about things to do with kids. I think the biggest impact maybe for our son so that is of course our biggest concern.

I’m leaving California to go to Virginia soon. I will most likely go to Roanoke, but I’m looking at Virginia Beach too. Is Virginia Beach a lot more expensive? They both look nice but I do love my beaches.
We are not Virginia Beach experts but looks like housing is a little more expensive (median home price $268k) and overall cost of living there is about 5% higher than the national average. Ultimately, it probably boils down to your desired lifestyle and if you absolutely have to live at the beach? Or, would being in the amazing Roanoke region full time with a short drive to the beach work for you? That is what works for us 👍our preferences and lifestyle
I just came from California and Oregon and saw the fires and what was left of a couple of towns. Are there not wildfires in Virginia and the Appalachians? I can't remember any but I have been in NC long enough to be have been hit by two hurricanes.
People aren’t bored arsonists in Roanoke. Their moms would whoop their backsides. No matter their age. Roanoke is family friendly, beautiful scenery. It is not clothing-trendy, it is a Southern City. Crime is stolen hoses and bikes. Summers will give your kids great memories. Hiking, kayaking, mountain climbing. Plenty of top notch Universities within 50 miles. You will find top lecturers at local colleges. And, if your kids are looking for marriage partners, Southern men and women are raised with families, most went to church. Food- Better than LA foods at some places. And you’ll love ham biscuits and grits, and a favorite of the downtown barristers, hot smokes. Come and visit, stay at the Hotel Roanoke, eat at the Regency Room or at a Pasadena like downtown restaurant scene. It is sooo relaxing in Roanoke.
It's great that people are realizing Cali has failed them, but remember, places like Roanoke (or Texas, or Florida, etc.) were not waiting around for you to come from your failing place to make theirs "right." Remember why you left Cali, and DON'T bring that with you. As a born Roanoker returning there soon, I know what I am talking about. Learn to be friendlier and less opinionated than you were back home. It is much safer to do than in a large city, and will serve you well there.
@@RoanokeVirginiaLiving I'm just messing with you. I like Roanoke alot, but was born and raised in Lynchburg. It has seemed to me that as Lynchburg has grown there has been more of a rivalry between the two cities. I was poking fun at that a little bit.
