Hello and thank you for this most informative video my mother was recently diagnosed with MDS she is currently 15 to 20% blast with a left shift can you say what life expectancy under these conditions and best treatment she is in her eighties
Hey...Thanks for the question...I am so sorry that your mother and you are going through this...Unfortunately, I cannot do that based on this information, only her doctor who knows all her history, physical exam, labs, biopsies and radiology imaging can make that decision....Regarding her age, its harder, but again, the pros and cons of treatment should be discussed with her physician...Sorry I couldn’t help...Also, if she doesn’t like her doctor, both of you can seek a second opinion...Take care!
Please make cardiology videos
Your videos saved my life
Amazing lecturing skills!
Thank you so much!
I have a friend who was on the haematology ward with me. We both went through pretty intense Chemotherapy together and have become really good friends. I was rejected for a stem cell transplant because I became so poorly on the treatment and was very close to death a few times but thankfully my friend got though his treatment and had a stem cell transplant but unfortunately just over a year later he has told me he has been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome and I don't know what this means. I was hoping someone here could explain what are his options. He had lymphoblastic leukaemia while on the ward and I don't understand how he could have gotten this after a stem cell transplant. Thank you so much
Hey.. How is your friend now... I am also suffering from mds.. Fully depended on blood transfusion
best tutorial ever

what about mixed MDS/myeloproliferative disorders?
Ringered sideroblasts occur only in the bone marrow. They are not seen in peripheral blood smear.
Thanks so much.
This makes so much sense.

Mubassir Khan Thank you so much :)
Thank you thank you thank you thank you !!!!!!!
Just need to confirm something
MDS (myeloddysplasia syndrome ) and MPD (myeloproloferative disoder) are TWO different things / diseases
MDS is when bone marrow is making abnormal cells ( dysplasia) and they DONt go out bone therefore cytopenia
Where as
MPD neoplastic proliferation of mature / myeloid lineage cell and the cells do go out of bone marrow and causes CML/PV/ET/ and MF..( based on which cell predominately produced )
So am I right ??
Yes, you are!
THANK YOU!
You’re most welcome!
Thank you so much!!
My pleasure!

Thanks for your video. Why is 5q deletion favorable in mds, yet unfavorable in aml? Is this correct?
You’re correct regarding the fact...However, I have no idea why that is the case. It’s just the way it is. But, that’s a great question!
it is treatable with Lenalidomide (Revlimid)
Thank you!!!!!!
