  • Welcome to More Christ. We seek to bring some of the world's most interesting and insightful guests to discuss life's central and abiding questions.
In this ninety fifth episode in a series of discussions, I'm joined once more by Jonathan Pageau and Dr Spencer Klavan.
Jonathan carves Eastern Orthodox and other traditional images. He also designs products, teaches, and makes fantastic videos for The Symbolic World that explore how ancient patterns can re-enchant our contemporary life.

With a PhD in Classics, Spencer Klavan has recently been snapped up by The Daily Wire. He is the assistant editor of The Claremont Review of Books and The American Mind at the Claremont Institute.
Spencer's literary expertise is aided by his knowledge of many languages, including Ancient Greek, Latin, and Hebrew. As a scholar who enjoys exploring how great works of literature provide valuable insights into today's world, Klavan hosts Young Heretics every Tuesday.

Another great video. It's certainly interesting to consider how VR could be integrated into our lives in a positive way. Plenty of people don't have the same concerns our corner of the internet seem to have with the next wave of technology. I watched a show this evening where a couple renovated and old Victorian gate lodge and the husband was excited by his new front door that only opens by fingerprint technology. He was saying he wished he could have got one that used a microchip in your wrist but they were too expensive.

Are you an Orthodox? I’m from England and I’ve been a strong Protestant for quite some time.
Since getting into the symbolic world I’ve noticed most of my favourite people are orthodox.
Just wondering what your thoughts are. Keep up the good work!

A difference in being necessitates symbols to mediate the interaction between the various states of beings.

If there’s one thing I’d love Jonathan to write a book about, it’s this concept of hierarchy inherent in our experience of and interaction with ourselves and the world. Seems to me so important and so little understood anymore

Marcas, not sure if you have already seen it, but there is a fantastic conversation with Bishop Maximus and John Vervaeke that came out a few days ago. I was reminded of it when Jonathan and Spencer were trying to articulate the Trinity. I don’t think I can put the link in here but it is on John Vervaeke’s channel.

The London event is live now on Eventbrite. If you have London set for the area and type in Calvin Robinson, it should come up. The Dublin one will be going up soon. :)
I'll try and share the Eventbrite link, here:

On the symbolizing aspect within the Trinity, see The Mind of the Maker by Dorothy Sayers. We know that the Father begets rather than making the Son. Yet, in our human creations, we see an imperfect analogy of Father, Son and Spirit in the maker, what we make and the making.

Jonathan mentions 2024 as a terrible year. What does he think will happen then?

  • @Tybourne1991

We can see a reflection of the idea of action without an actor in the prevalence of the passive voice. For instance, 'inmates were given a short, sharp shock.' Once you become aware of it, you notice this type of grammatical slippage everywhere.
