I used to work at an Indian restaurant, and was told I can never share their secret flatbread recipe. I had to sign a naan-disclosure agreement😏 spot on Rikmeister! Ingredients most people have. Nice one mate!
Update. Made these bad boys. Without gluten but added greek yoghurt in the mix to help with the lift. 'Amazing', says my gluten-free husband. Such an amazing recipe. 🎉🎉🎉
It's not quite a lefse but very similar. For the classic Norwegian potetlefse or potetlompe we use less flour than here - typically one part to 4-5 parts potatoes. Also, no water, no sugar and no oil (not even for frying), just potatoes, flour and a pinch of salt.
Growing up in Australia, my Mum and Grandmother both made delicious cakes using mashed potato. They usually had dried fruit and a coconut icing. I'vr heard them described as Boston Bun or Shearer's Cake. I must find the recipe!
lefse made small and thicker is what I make for hot dog wraps, tortillas, etc. It actually is called lumpe. I save the very large, very thin for the holidays and it is true lefse.
Well, I'll definitely be trying this recipe very soon! This recipe is an absolute revelation, Rik! I've been having quite a few of those lately, Rik. My cooking is being transformed and I love it! Thank you so much, Rik! 💜
Another great recipe!!! Glad you mentioned the potential pop and burst of steam, even if you're used to burns, steam burns suck. I'm not sure I could pull that flip off though.
Speaking of potatoes was out of bread for Breakfast so did a baked potato buttered topped with scrambled eggs and crispy bacon bits plus chopped green beans fried with the bacon then topped with tartare sauce, I am sure you can do better but its wasn't bad. These look pretty good, square ones and a mince filling rolled would be great or a multitude of fillings and as for curries there are many available to buy at the supermarket some half decent but the chapatis on sale are dire these would fit the bill very nicely. Nice one :).
@@BackyardChef I love flatbread, but I never managed to succeed in making it. Same with yeast-based bread. Every time a total catastrophe, came out more like a brick than a baked good. None of Your recipes ever failed me, so this time I hope for success.

Grand idea of using left over mashed potatoes.I usually make potato farls. Now can do this new recipe with Irish stew, soups and even cold with sliced meats /sausages. Thank you again Chef Rik and for showing and explaining cooking method. Not hot and flipping over numerous times. Thank you.🤩
@BackyardChef You're welcome! Looks like I'll have to substitute mashed sweet potatoes since I have a couple leftover potatoes that are a bit "long in the tooth". 😁

A lot of amusing comments today. I just sent your recipe to my friend, she makes a lot of flat breads I’m sure she will like this one. I have made thousands of crepes,so I think with your advice I should be good with this one, thanks Rik.😊
Beautiful, I love the addition of potato, they looks so soft and tender. I was taught to use the flat of a spatula to press down but I like the idea of using a paper towel. Nice one, thanks Rik.
This is so funny! I was completely out of food and wanted to make pancakes or a flat bread desperately this winter except for flour, potatoes, salt, sugar and coconut oil. I heated the oil and the water so the oil would not solidify. I didn't use a hand mixer, though I had one, I just used a fork and added the warm water slowly. I kept stirring until I got a smooth batter. Then, put a drop of oil in the pan and smooth it around. Desperate times create new recipes. I should have made a video but I live without heat, and where I am it is 3 degrees above zero in my kitchen! Too cold to do anything!
Good Morning, Chef Rik! THANK YOU for this recipe, haven’t liked other flatbread recipes, too complicated. Can you use instant mashed potatoes? God Bless!
Flippin’ fantastic recipe Rik, you’re our go to culinary alchemist 🪄✨, an absolute wizard 🧙♂️ in the kitchen!
