Should I password protect and not mention to anyone, including my colleague, who needs to work on the file, my password?

Lost at literally the very first step. This is not universal help. This UI is not what mine looks like (Office 2018, on a 2018 MacBook Pro). I have no “file”, other than the one at the top left. Under that, there is no “options” button.
