- BMW G87 M2 6 Speed RaceChip GTS Black Instant Insane Horsepower Boost. I just wrapped up the install with the custom mount for a customers G87 M2 because he truly felt the cars stock power was underwhelming since owning it for many months. The Race Chip GTS black is an intelligent Bluetooth enables external tuning box that lets you adjust and control the parameters off your smart phone. I show and highlight the features of the Race Chip Smart Phone APP in this video. FYI for anyone with a manual gearbox G8X car, do not abuse and romp on the car too much on local roads as you will smoke and destroy the clutch using RACE MAP 7. Sport Map 5 seems to be the most versatile mode on these cars with no compromises on the original features of the car. When adding significant amounts of power to this platform the rear suspension becomes compromised and handling and launch very unstable and erratic so be forewarned.

So the short wheelbase and drivability concerns is the reason why the M2 only gets 88 horsepower increase from the GTS5, while the M3 gets 147 horsepower increases. It is a very thoughtful result of the RaceChip engineers

I have a g87 m2 with the Areeve tune. Car dynoed at 561whp in a six speed manual. I have zero clutch slip. Not understanding how the clutch is slipping in this video. Clutch slip is when the rs go up and no movement - wheel hop isnt clutch slip.
clutch slip you can smell the burning clutch in Map 7 if you are rough dumping the clutch, did the same thing on my G80 M3 however it was much worse on the M3 maybe from the heavier weight and longer wheel base.
@autofanaticcars your absolutely right that you can smell clutch slip. Not on my g87 m2 with the Areeve tune. From the searching I have done some tuners agree that the clutch can handle around 500 torque at the wheels, which is where I am at some say 550. I think also it's how a car is tuned - when and where the power comes on. Just my thoughts. I've had 6 speed muscle cars in the past that can't handle the stock power at the drag strip.

I can’t remember the exact number but the transmission was rated in the low 400’s for torque capability. I want to say it was 440. So, you have very little room there if reliably is your concern. Also, people tend to think it’s a Getrag, but it’s not. It’s a ZF manual unit.
Nice work, my favorite BMW, 2025s have a bit more power but more importantly more colors. Thinking about grabbing one…

its ok a bit heavier than I would like but my biggest complaint is the overly fat steering wheel I just do not like thick wheels to hold.
If I had to guess the clutch slip is more to do with the CDV than the power, because the tires should let go first in second gear.
I have a g87 manual with cup 2 Tyres. I put this chip on no issues with clutch nothing. Have done a track day was fine. So much faster
Mode 4 every day 6 if u want a bit more but I just use mode 4
Good to hear it only slips in Race map 7 if you dump clutch hard in the street at highways speed its no issue. This M2 has horrendous Pzero tires still
yeah Mode 4 is totally safe the max MAP 7 is where the clutch slips and burns badly it is too much for the stock clutch so keep using what your doing
Yeah I have the p zero as daily Tyres they are rubbish. But have cup 2 for track days.

Just and FYI BMW can detect this even if you remove it because the all get logged in the ECU and will void the powertrain warranty. If you are doing it wait until your warranty expires after 50k miles or 4 years or you pay to play and don’t care about the warranty.
Life is way too short to wait to have fun modifying your cars. Enjoy it now or never
how strange low gear pulls shouldn't slip the clutch, tires should spin at that point. Wheel hope is a different story
Yeah you can smell the clutch burning in Map 7 on these cars if you romp on it very hard my G80 M3 almost toasted the clutch a few times
Great review but they don't ship the DME to Ukraine. They get shipped to Femto in Finland.
Pre war they were getting done in Ukraine the team seemed to have left and settle in Finland now . Regardless shipping an ECU outside the country can lead to big headaches
Bmw was clear on the torque and power on the manual car🤔 as for the suspension feel at high speed, the front definitely is nervous. I drive my car in m2 mode with everything max and find the suspension to be a little of a letdown. I am curious about the csl hardware and tune🤔
Yes the suspension is great to daily and cruise over bad roads but not stiff enough or controlled once you add more power the back gets very nervous

Team is originally from Ukraine who have migrated to Finland since the war. Nevertheless you still need to ship the ecu overseas and boxes do get lost these days all to. Frequently

As i said the clutch is the weak link if you abuse it or use map7 too hard otherwise it’s great just leave it in map5 or below no issues
Im glad I bought my 1st auto with this car. A piggyback is slipping the clutch.
only slips in Map 7 which is supposed to be a 150hp increase over stock so You can no blame the clutch in this regard most cars would have a hard time with this level of increase without supporting mods

Racechip i like better power delivery is smoother
re: jb4 vs race chip. I've heard from numerous sources (and as Phil has said) that the race chip is more linear/smooth power delivery. and from my experience I will say the jb4 on my g87 does remind me of the power delivery of my MC20 where it does cram the boost at times which can overwhelm the back tires. It's great as long as you're awake and it's at least predictable. so for a daily in 4 season areas, the race chip might be the more practical choice. I went with the jb4 bc I live in warmer weather area with no snow and not that much rain, the g87 is a weekender for me, and because jb4 does monitor/hook up to a few more engine parameters so its slightly safer and there's more ways to customize maps/boost. And if there is a problem or something that needs to be corrected, there would be more data that jb4 could look at. hope this info helps.
Nice any real world 60-130 performance number differences? Seems its this JB4, or Dinan (carbahn)
This customer looked into the Dinan and the gains were minimal. Lots of G8x guy’s complaining on the JB4 so he went with the RaceChip. Customer called and he loves it so far

Racechip seems to have a great warranty and support plus the switchable maps and all is great you can not go wrong i feel/
There's also the Dinan piggyback module, and it's practically a rebranded race chip... aside from the carbahn.
How is this underwhelming? The 240i is a rocket with the b58 that’s an auto thou does the manual suck in these m cars?
The manual cars power delivery is very different
There reach a point when building any engine for power and torque, one must choose the transmission option that offers the best delivery. In the case of the M cars, the limit is as the manufacturer determines as a warranty product. Simply put, the clutch is the weak point of the transmission.

Dealer doesn’t car I take my g87 to the dealership every time and they say absolutely nothing about the race chip
