Pre-record - It's a feature we used to have on minidisc recorders in the previous century! Anyway, it's handy, but there's a couple of downsides - firstly, as you say it will be eating your battery while you have pre-record turned on, and secondly, if you press the record button, the sound and vision will be affected at that point (your hand may be seen in the video and you'll hear the physical click of the record button). This really does emphasise how we need an on-screen record button, same as a mobile phone, which would be less likely to be heard (and maybe less likely to be seen due to faster and gentler operation). But both downsides can be avoided if you use the powered selfie stick, which should give noise free, invisible operation via its remote control button, and also it will power the camera for hours. But I confess I have not actually tried it yet to ensure compatibility with the new feature.
Haha yes you are certainly right Peter - this isn’t a new feature, it’s just new to insta360. You’ve made me nostalgic now thinking of minidisc recorders! GoPro have also had it a few years. Yes great points made about the downsides, thanks for the comment.
This is a great feature when using the Insta360 as a dash cam. Rather than having it always recording to the micro-chip, if a document worthy incident occurs you can hit record and get the previous 30 seconds to guarantee that you’ve captured it. Great for when the police claim you did something you didn’t do (like not stopping at a stop sign; etc.)
It’s good to see this on a 360 cam. GoPro has this since the 9, but GoPro is still buggy with the 11. 🤦🏻

Insta360 just keep improving their products and software. Would be good to see how it effects the battery life, as you say. 🤔 I can see myself trading in my one r for the X3 very soon!
I think that would be a great upgrade - I’ve always preferred the x3 style design for 360 use.

I don’t think so but it’s one of those features that should be easy to add to the X2 - fingers crossed in the future maybe
Is loop recording much better? If you want one or two min video chunks?
After you hit record (on pre record) its saves the past 30 seconds yes, but is there also option to recording in real time? incase the action is still ongoing

@@EatSleep360 Soo witch mode is more like GoPro's hindsight. The loop recording, or pre recording? I use it to record all my kayak fishing. its awesome. if the 360 x3 has a function like hindsight I may have to jump ship. I hate the GoPros overheating issues.

Damn. I was excited about this until you said once you stop recording it takes it out of prerecord mode. I was hoping to use this while kayak fishing. Camera would be mounted on a boom behind me so constantly taking it down to reenable would be a total pain.
They might have fixed it I haven’t tried it for a while
you have to go in setting for pre-recording. why not just press recording button 30 sec earlier? if it does alway when press recording button is good but go in setting.. pre-recording..
Which firmware version is mentioned? I have v1.0.24_build2 on my X3 and can't find any info about it.
You will just see the new icon on the main menu, there’s no info
Still missing active hdr in the single lens 4k mode!
Mention it on their facebook community page and tag them - they do listen to the community. Hopefully in a future update.

This means that C$%*a is definitely recording everything and the record button not even active
It is recording into a 30sec buffer but you won’t see it until you press record - if you don’t press record it won’t properly record anything. Loop recording on the other hand will record onto the memory card.
O it's recording you just don't see it. I bet the battery doesn't last for weeks like my x3 does without the update
