  • I love the Grand Canyon. Most trail runners wait for peak conditions in October for the quest of completing R2R2R. Since I've already accomplished this feat, I enjoy getting the canyon in the off months during the winter. So, I decided to make a video this time and share the experience of what it's like being in the Grand Canyon on a trail running journey in January. Get the popcorn, sit back, relax and enjoy the beauty from your Colorado 14er finisher favorite hiking professor!

    I really enjoyed that. From someone who wishes he could be trail running the grand canyon but doesn't have the time working 80 hours a week. Thank you very much

      For years I worked many hours a week, maybe even sometimes 80. I'm fortunate that I don't have to be in that position anymore.

      It was fantastic being ALONE in the Grand Canyon. For miles, there was no one. That's becoming more and more rare as so many are discovering more challenging adventures.

    Was here in Jan, was not able to make it to the ranch but to Indian Gardens... still an amazing experience. I did the phantom ranch trek in the spring a couple years back and it was spectacular!

    I love GC in the winter, cuts down on the people. Weather in the canyon is magical. NK has incredible waterfalls during rainstorms but you have to be a brave r2r2r, going when North is closed and weather is “bad”, to ever see them. You have to be confident in your gear too, I’ve been in rain, snow, wind, warm, sunny with temps from 14F to 70F.. all on the same day.
    Sad to see all the empty campsites, people don’t know what they are missing.

    Great video ! stunning views ! Thank you so much for sharing ☺️🙏. I was in the NV spring mountains for a six mile loop after the first snow in October and I saw one person at the trail head before me and not a single soul after that during my entire hike it was sublime .

    Thank you for sharing your amazing hiking videos, especially the Grand Canyon videos, which inspired me so much. On Oct 2016, for the first time, my husband and I hiked from South Kaibab down to the river back up to Bright Angel trail head in one day. Since then, we have come to Grand Canyon to hike every year.

    In April 1961 I hiked from Phantom Ranch to the South Rim carrying a pack filled with fossils from the Bass Formation and it was raining at the start of the hike out and about one-third of the way up the rain turned to snow. John

    Simply wonderful! Twice I walked the South Kaibab, spent a couple of nights at Phantom Ranch, and then the big walk up the Bright Angel to the top. Now because of spinal paralysis I can experience the Canyon only through videos like this one. So appreciative of your making this - wish it was longer. Your panting during the last three miles of the Bright Angel is truly indicative of finishing this hike, but running on the ice seems scary to me. During April one only has to look out on the trail for snakes and the occasional mountain goat.

    • @FoorTrek
      @FoorTrek  2 года назад

      The best compliment, "I wish it was longer". Thank you! Yes, my videos are the journey. The easy, the challenging, the adventure and rewards. If it's hard, you'll hear it. As for running on ice, Colorado is amazing training ground for this. Get some kahtoola microspikes and you'll never look back.

    That was an incredible feat of fitness! I bet the mules were impressed too!
    Coincidentally I just got a last minute 2 night permit to camp at Indian Garden and Bright Angel.
    I’ve always wanted to do this hike and at age 65 it’s now or never!
    I’m going to just keep saying “You gotta love the uphill” on the way up!

      @@FoorTrek I arrived at The Bright Angel Campground this morning! Just had a lemonade and climbed up the trail a little ways to get cell service. This place is amazing! Lots of day hikers coming through campground is full! The ice at the top of Bright Angel was interesting!! That was smart to bring micro spikes!
