Birding with a Scientist Who HATES Birds
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 авг 2024
- Are birds better, or are fish better? Today, we're joined by Dr. Solomon David, who is a part of Team Fish, to see if we can settle the debate, and change his mind about birds. We walk around the Nicholls State University campus, discussing our thoughts, looking at the local wildlife, and talking about conservation. Will we be successful it turning Dr. David to the feathered side?

As a birder I think fish are awesome- it’s just that birds are so much more accessible. I’ve also got a massive fear of deep and large expanses of water.
Same. When I’m on a boat I’m like don’t look down and it’s mostly ok.
I feel like this is typical biologist behavior, trash talking other organisms outside their study group/species but still always being secretly excited about biodiversity 😆
You’re 100% correct
A "scientist" who hates fish as well. Just another depraved, psychopath who likes to torture animals and makes a living of it. As a birder and vegan I hate anglers and fishermen. If you love animals, love nature and birding go vegan already!
As an avid birder, I found Dr. David's enthusiastic reaction to the meadowlarks amusing because that is exactly how I act when I see almost any bird. I do really like fish as well, but birds are the only thing that can distract me so easily.
same lol, fish are fine but you can't as easily watch them anywhere like you can with birds
I agree with Dr David there should be nothing that should be called trash whether it's a fish or a bird I cannot stand it when birders say there is a trash bird there are no trash Birds PERIOD .
House sparrow 🗑
@@snowyowl5556 there are trash people not trash Birds .
@@garymeredith2441 there's both 🗑
But you didn’t tell him the coolest part about shrikes - how they impale their prey on thorns (because they don’t have raptor talons to grip them and tear them apart). Sooo metal! 🤘🏼
And I was really glad to hear his take on “invasive” species 😊
This was fun! I love the friendly banter between you guys. You should have Dr David on again in the future.
Ask Dr. Dave is there a fish species that can mimic a car alarm
Northern Mockingbass 😂
I was a fishing / fishkeeping guy my whole life. Always liked birds as well as every other living creature. But I started to really go bird crazy only a couple years ago. Now birds are part of my waking thoughts every day :) Still love fish, but they have taken the back seat :) Fun vid :) TY.
You love every living creature including fish? That's why you fished and in doing so harassed and tortured them?
This was funny, looked like the good Dr. Was totally trying to hide his enthusiasm! Love it!
The voiceover observations during the paused black and white scenes were perfect 😂
What a FUN video
I'm a "Both'er", very into fish as well... and Lepidoptera (butterflies & Moths), and Herps... and Amphibians to some extent. About the name of Northern Mockingbird: it's a VERY apt name! There are 14 species of the genus Mimus, all except Northern are found well south of North America. The only other close species, Bahama Mockingbird, can be spotted as a vagrant on Florida Keys sometimes (I was lucky enough to see one on our visit there in May of 2009).
Fun video! (The only Gar species I've seen is the Florida Gar)
As a birder- He should take just one birding trip to Costa rica, or columbia. If he wants birds with color!!!
Loved every second of this! I’m definitely team bird, but I love what you said about listening to others. One of my favorite channels!
I haven't been on Twitter for a few years so it was fun to learn about this "feud"!
Solomon is hilarious and of course so are you two. What a fun video.
This is the most Team Fish statement ever... "Might need the otoliths to check it out just to be sure "....
100%
What a delightful video!!!
YOU CANT HATE BIRDS!
Another great video!
Great video. I guess I'm #teamwildlife . I really like what Dr. Soloman had to say about trash animals and invasive species and will be checking out the resources!
Just here to support team fish.
Fun video. Lol
Glad you were able to pull him a little closer toward the right team (although he didn’t openly admit it). ;)
Love the content!
Love your birding videos. You guys totally rock! What camera brand, models and lenses do you guys use? Thanks so much.
Loved this!
One of Us !!! One of Us !!! One of Us!!! Awesome video guys 👍
great video. Both families are cool. I also like Insects 😀.Greets Stefan
Well this was pretty funny. Good job!!
This was great.
Fun. Thank you.
Very fun video 😅
I like all animals, but I'm definitely team bird the most. It's just that, looking for birds is so much easier than fish or other animals. They are everywhere and are less likely to be hiding away. You can be birding at anytime, like while hiking or just looking out your window. Also, they are just so cute (not that other animals can't be cute).
This is the first I have heard of the fued.
Nice 👌👌👌👌👌
I have the same model camera and find it really hard to film with… is it possible that it’s because I have 300 lens? I’m new to cameras?
Is that lens built for video?
OK, I haven't finished the video yet, but I thought it was cute that a Carolina wren was calling in the background right away (see about 1:40), and then you said mockingbird... Hmmmmm, I thought, possible, but unlikely. And within a minute, a Carolina wren shows up! Well, I have no control over your editing, but it sure seems like a misidentification by voice. 😮 Despite that, I know I'm going to enjoy this video -- keep up the good work!
Or…there are lots of common birds calling, that include Carolina Wren and Northern Mockingbirds 🤔
The fish vs bird debate always ends with both parties wanting to learn more. I started as a bird person and now I can say I am a bird AND fish person equally.
For someone who doesn't like birds he sure could spot them fast. ;)
Im a big Birds and Herps type of person, but still find plants and insects and other things interesting. I'm definitely team Bird though over fish haha. I do love me some topwater largemouth bass fishing with a scum frog lure though....too much fun.
What do you do if the fish flies though? Do you love him? or hate him?
You guys have used the word "herp" I think multiple times, first when you found the Anole. And second when you mentioned what the Loggerhead Shrikes eat. Does this refer to lizards?
Yes! Herps is short for reptiles and amphibians, the study of which is called herpetology. So basically just a shorter way of saying a reptile or amphibian
Love the channel! I do have a question, why don't you guys carry a spotting scope / binoculars? Kind of a stable here in Europe to have bino's, is this a birding culture difference 😅?
No this is just how we do it. Since the cameras we use have a great zoom and we’re always trying to get videos it became more efficient to just use the camera as a magnification tool
No, real birders in the USA use binos. This guy is crazy. He is a "picture taker", not a Birder.
I just got a meadowlark yesterday
GOOD PREN
What camera do you use? I am looking to buy one
This is the main one we use for videos and pics! ruclips.net/video/H5ShXgmCs7g/видео.html
2:41 LOL! :D
Haha great stuff!
Take this guy to the local WWTP and I bet he'll find a GARganey
Birds are the fish of the sky❤
😮😮As a wicked bird I am hurt that anyone hates me. I need to find his head. Splat.
You sure Dr. David isn't trolling you? I bet he's a ringer.
oh ya bALD EAGLE is THEEEE bird to get someone interested
it always works
I like both but I definitely like birds better.
Maybe he should watch the mating dance of the bird of Paradise, and then say fish are better.
im on team brid and team fish because i got them onion layers
Host: So Dr. David, why do you hate birds so much?
Dr. David: I don't hate birds...
Title of video: Check out this scientist that HATES birds!!!
That’s part of the joke…
The only trash animal , is the trash panda aka the raccoon since it goes through trash 😂
Northern mockingbird. It's only ironic to find it in Louisiana, if you are highly America-centric...
It’s almost like we live in America or something
@@BadgerlandBirding So you think birds are named (north/south) in reference to your country alone? That is pretty stupid - no matter where you live.
@@blanktfolkeparti9903 no, people normally first think about things in reference to how it relates to them. Especially people who aren’t super familiar with birds, so calm down, little guy.
@@BadgerlandBirding I'm calm as a cucumber.
I don't like fish too much to be fair. I love my birds tho.
The difference is birding doesn't hurt the birds, but fishing... 💀
At first it did 😬 www.smithsonianmag.com/history/how-bird-collecting-evolved-into-bird-watching-180980506/

Funny
I’ve never seen a man that hated birds so much. Thank god none of them got close, he probably would have punched one if given the chance.
OK, so Northern Mocking Bird is a lifer for him. Cool. He may want to look into the epic and long-standing human-bird relationship here in which thermonuclear war has been discussed as a solid extermination method for this, um, vocal species that yawps all night. Wikipedia used to host the well-annotated article, but apparently the encyclopedia's Woke staff have extirpated it because as we all now know, humor is bad. I dare say no fish has ever prompted the heartfelt and desperate plea for a world-ending solution due to its creation of massive human annoyance. Therefore I conclude, birds win.
I like birds more than fish.
I once had neighbors who hated trees. They moved in while were on vacation and promptly chopped down all the trees in their yard. The next day we heard them screaming at two AM in the morning. Probably they were having nightmares about trees. We called the police on them.
first off, you have the wrong tools, you don't bird with cameras. Where are your binos???? you don't get a person into birding until they see how cool birds look up close. Always bird with binos, you can learn to take pictures of birds later.
