I disagree with all the “hate” to Sigurd, he was the only brother that stood up against Ivar and they were pretty equal in a lot of ways. Sigurd and Ivar could test each other in a way no one else could. I would have loved seeing more of Ivar and Sigurd. Altho I understand where the hate comes from I do not agree that Sigurd should have died for it. Even Ivar himself was shocked that he killed his brother. To be honest I don’t have much respect for the younger Ivar, I do think the Ivar after Russia is one of my favorite characters in the whole series, you see the outcome of all he has been true and all he has experienced and I would call that Ivar “wise and worthy”. When Ivar is older and shooting a bow with Ubbe he tries to impress Ubbe by shooting it towards Hvitserk and Siggurd which Siggurd isn't happy about and in the confrontation Ivar throws an axe at him that scrapes the top of his head.

The scene showed how fake the program got by showing that Ivar had no honor, not that he was ruthless, as he struck down his own kin who was unarmed. After committing Nid of this kind, he would have been stripped of all property and title and banished, no matter his station.
I mean yeah the show is obviously fake. It has real historical facts sprinkled in there, but it's otherwise highly fictional. Take Kattegat for example, which is the one place the entire show revolves around. In real life, that's just a narrow sea between Denmark, Norway and Sweden. No settlement, no land, just water.
What makes me mad is that he should have left the axe in his chest and killed him with a different one. I remember there being a second axe available. But he pulled it and bled out.
What I find strange is that Ivar hit Sigurd with the axe where he did, Ivar was more than capable of hitting Sigurd in the head or upper torso, I also find it strange that Sigurd succumbed to his wound so quickly.
Axe head plunged 4 inches into that part of your chest severs the lower ventricles of your heart and gives you mere moments before you collapse from plummeting blood pressure
I mean he basically hit him in the upper torso, just under his chest. With that level of bleeding and ESPECIALLY because Sigurd ripped it out of his chest, it's not surprising he would fall pretty quickly. Regardless, film & TV always portray people dying a lot more quickly than happens in real life, otherwise you'd have a lot of long, drawn-out scenes of people taking hours to die sometimes.

The problem arose later when the Heathen army was split & Ivar wanted to lead a part of the army into other battles that Ubbe & Sigurd did not agree with . Bjorn didn’t care because he was going on an expedition . The Problem was who would gain leadership of the army .

I disagree with all the “hate” to Sigurd, he was the only brother that stood up against Ivar and they were pretty equal in a lot of ways. Sigurd and Ivar could test each other in a way no one else could.
I would have loved seeing more of Ivar and Sigurd. Altho I understand where the hate comes from I do not agree that Sigurd should have died for it.
Even Ivar himself was shocked that he killed his brother.
To be honest I don’t have much respect for the younger Ivar, I do think the Ivar after Russia is one of my favorite characters in the whole series, you see the outcome of all he has been true and all he has experienced and I would call that Ivar “wise and worthy”.
I think that Ivar and Sigurd later in life would have been more understanding and maybe even have respected and loved eachother.

Exactly, he easily could have killed him that time when Sigurd threw the axe at his cup, but instead Ivar purposely missed and spared him, though Sigurd bled.. and judging by the look that had been on Sigurd’s face in that clip.. he knew Ivar had purposely missed.. and in this clip, Sigurd running away just goes to show he knows that if Ivar were to catch up to him, he’d be screwed

@@lolo82t.r.86 you may be thinking of two seperate scenes. Once when Ivar was a kid he killed another child with an axe to the head for taking a toy from him. When Ivar is older and shooting a bow with Ubbe he tries to impress Ubbe by shooting it towards Hvitserk and Siggurd which Siggurd isn't happy about and in the confrontation Ivar throws an axe at him that scrapes the top of his head.

The scene showed how fake the program got by showing that Ivar had no honor, not that he was ruthless, as he struck down his own kin who was unarmed. After committing Nid of this kind, he would have been stripped of all property and title and banished, no matter his station.
I mean yeah the show is obviously fake. It has real historical facts sprinkled in there, but it's otherwise highly fictional. Take Kattegat for example, which is the one place the entire show revolves around. In real life, that's just a narrow sea between Denmark, Norway and Sweden. No settlement, no land, just water.

What I find strange is that Ivar hit Sigurd with the axe where he did, Ivar was more than capable of hitting Sigurd in the head or upper torso, I also find it strange that Sigurd succumbed to his wound so quickly.
Axe head plunged 4 inches into that part of your chest severs the lower ventricles of your heart and gives you mere moments before you collapse from plummeting blood pressure
I mean he basically hit him in the upper torso, just under his chest. With that level of bleeding and ESPECIALLY because Sigurd ripped it out of his chest, it's not surprising he would fall pretty quickly.
Regardless, film & TV always portray people dying a lot more quickly than happens in real life, otherwise you'd have a lot of long, drawn-out scenes of people taking hours to die sometimes.

It was literally Sigurd’s idea to come up with a unified army . If you watch an earlier conversation again between Ubbe , Sigurd and Ivar after Ragnar died it was literally Sigurd who said “we should create an army much bigger than ever ! “ . The problem arose later when the Heathen army was split & Ivar wanted to lead a part of the army into other battles that Ubbe & Sigurd did not agree with . Bjorn didn’t care because he was going on an expedition . The Problem was who would gain leadership of the army .

After Ragnar, Bjorn Ivar was the most significant character in the show but everybody was great
I never pittied what Sigurd for what happened to him. He had mastered exploiting Ivar's weaknesses but was too cowardly to truly confront him. I'm not saying Ivar was a good child by any means, but a little more support by those closest to him, Sigurd, especially, and he could have gone down a much better path.
