Hi Chris, after watching your Openspot reviews I am ready to order one. I think they are dispatched within EU, did you get charged duty/vat on your purchase in UK?
The OpenSpot4 sounded less robotic than the OpenSpot3. But it still sounded robotic compared to the analog FM mode. I wonder if the audio would sound closer to the FM audio quality if was a Yaesu Fusion transceiver than an Icom D-Star transceiver. I've heard that the YSF audio quality is better than the D-Star audio quality, but I haven't ever heard a demonstration audio comparison. I bought the OpenSpot4 Pro, but I don't own a digital portable transceiver yet. I thinking of buying a Yaesu FT5DR because the Icom ID-52A is very user unfriendly to try to configure. But I haven't been able to get the OpenSpot4 Pro to receive the digital signals on my computer or iPhone without a digital transceiver.
@@digitalanaloguehamradio You can listen with your iPhone, except you have to set your iPhone to never automatically lock the screen, which is a security risk. As soon as the iPhone screen automatically locks, the received audio will stop. They should fix that software bug, so that received audio does not stop when the iPhone screen automatically locks. Other apps behave that way. For example, RUclips or RUclips Premium, where you can listen to the RUclips audio with the iPhone screen auto locked.
Thanks Garry everything is default settings. I am trying to be as transparent as possible. I do not notice hardly any difference. One is a bit louder and the other is a bit quieter. Thank you for watching mate
I suppose this is the OS4 not the OS4 Pro ??? I think zero difference in that case, if you had a OS4 Pro then in theory it's using HW decode/encode etc... If it's an OS4 Pro, then according to this no need to pay extra for the pro...
Not much of a difference, certainly not worth the upgrade from the OS3 in my opinion. I've heard that having 2 hotspots on the same channel can get you banned from that channel ?
Both sound terrible. Really have to concentrate to work out what's been said. That's what happens when you reduce the bandwidth to almost nothing. Wide digital C4FM 12.5khz is much better. I assume the OS4 supports wide digital to Yaesu radios?

If someone sounds like a robot or not has to to with other circumstances on the sender / gateway side or maybe internet bandwith
Have you tried the app on iPhone or android or Windows shark RF link?
If you use the shark app, you could talk and listen on the phone or computer and enjoy your open 4 pro

Not very good quality on either, but the OS4 is marginally better. Probably not worth upgrading to the 4. I appreciate the comparison Chris.

yes I started out with one hand held you have to build your way up. I had a Chinese handheld only for the first year

The problem is everyone sounds terrible on america link, there's too much cross mode activity. Try this test into DMR I think you'd get a better idea.
I totally agree, it’s not like for like. If it sounds terrible, it’s not the fault of America link or fusion. It’s the fault of other stuff connected.
Openspot4 is a little clearer but not much.

Yes you can get banned. Especially on 30 Charlie which I was. That is why I use two different call signs.
