    Thanks for the memories. We used to go to all the beaches between Sydney and the Hawksbury. We used to camp and fish and catch yabbies on the upper reaches of the Hawksbury and watched the Opera house be built when we lived there.

    What an adventure Stu didn't realise the green machine would go that far, have done a similar trip with the inlaws but in a much larger boat. Sydney harbour and out through the heads is rough all the time. Look forward to your next adventure well done!

    Nice video mate. Very interesting for us South Africans as we have a lot of requirements to be able to go to sea. A different skippers license, wet deck boat, twin engines if you going more than 1nm offshore, loads of safety gear, etc etc. Looks a bit easier there. Oh we also not allowed to drink and boat :(

    • @DangarMarine
      @DangarMarine  6 лет назад

      Interesting to hear. We need extra safety equipment to go offshore (for example you don't need the flares in enclosed waters) but the license is the same (unless you are a commercial operator) Our drink driving limits are the same as on the road so 0.05 for the skipper.

    • @lukestrugnell
      @lukestrugnell 6 лет назад

      @@DangarMarine cool stuff. And any regulations on boat design? Ours also need 60% buoyancy with foam filled hulls for offshore.

    • @scharftalicous
      @scharftalicous 6 лет назад

      There are recommendations to have buoyancy chambers but it is the choice of the consumer. it is very different as a commercial vessel though, that requires consideration of design and what-not. As a side note in West Australia our drink/drug boating limit is based on whether or not your boat ran into something

    • @pearlyshells2430
      @pearlyshells2430 5 лет назад

      Mate..recreational boating all is needed is mandatory safety gear for offshore...flares, lifejackets, water, x amount of anchor rode, also boat size = any, and having a license is not needed offshore (been awhile)?.....Commercial different ball game....
      Used to fish out of a 'offshore' back in the 80's...Port Hacking.

    Nice I’ve been missing the sea sadly my ships out of commission for now sucked a bolt off the front of the starter into the air intake washer came off the bolt and went in the engine I immediately shut the engine off so there’s not much damage.The engines a 1978 evinrude 55 best motor in terms of reliability I’ve had any way I cleaned it up and put a new gasket on torqued it up everything was good the head is strait some minor washer indents in the piston and head but when I go to start it it fires right up and runs but it’s popping like a lean pop won’t go once you put the warm up lever under half and when I spin the fly wheel feels like the damaged pistons got no compression in it haven’t done a compression check as of yet

    • @DangarMarine
      @DangarMarine  6 лет назад

      Wow, that's a very unlucky thing to have happen but you did well to shut it down fast. As well as the compression check I would make sure the reed valves didn't get damaged.

      Dangar Marine reeds are in good shape 160 to 170 psi on top cylinder keeps about 60 psi on the bottom damaged cylinder looks like I’m going to have to change the bottom cylinder. I got my bigger boat things hard on the wallet though lol (Edit) got the head off looks like the washer indent has split open on the cylinder

    just wondering, but when heading out to sea, should we cut waves head on at 90 degree or should we go at them at an angle like 45 degree? i am so confused since i have been told both ways...

    • @DangarMarine
      @DangarMarine  6 лет назад +1

      I prefer 45 as it gives you a gentler angle over the waves and prevents you burying the bow into the wave and having water coming over the front deck. The reason people say straight on is so the boat doesn't get rolled over by a breaking way so maybe aim for something slightly closer to the 90, maybe 75.

    Hiya mate, just a quicky, I've got a Tohatsu 9.8 2 stroke which I recently did some work on to sort out a over revving problem, whilst I got that running nicely I think it needs fine tuning and to be honest, I'm not sure how to do it. Can you do a vid about tuning single carb 2 strokes please or, if you have time, give a 'how to' to help sort out this problem. When I rebuilt the carb I set the adjustment screw to 2 complete turns from full in, it does run ok, but it ticks over erratically. Cheers, George, UK.

    • @ronpowell2373
      @ronpowell2373 6 лет назад +1

      two strokes do miss fire at idle revs, but that initial setting will be on the rich side. So wind the screw in until the engine splutters, then wind the screw out until it does the same spluttering thing, counting the turns between the two. then wind the screw in about half the turns you counted. That should be very close. You can get better by fiddling but as the air pressure changes that 'perfect' tune will go away a bit. That is just the nature of carburettors. Give me fuel injection any day because they constantly adjust themselves as the air pressure changes.

    • @DangarMarine
      @DangarMarine  6 лет назад

      Ron is on the money with the procedure. You may also be able to adjust the idle timing with that outboard, but there isn't much more you can do with the carburettor itself, they are pretty simple.

    Is it better to run a outboard out of fuel after every use, or better to keep it hooked up? I have heard to do both. Johnson 70 . Thanks

    • @stanpatterson5033
      @stanpatterson5033 6 лет назад

      I await Stu's answer to this, but I would say that it depends on how often the outboard gets used. If you use it infrequently, with no known recall-to-service date, then running it out of fuel each time you are finished with it isn't bad practice. If you'll be using it for certain in a week's time, it just means that you have to run the thing until it's dry, and then re-prime it next week, so if the extra time spent doing those tasks isn't too demanding, it's time well spent. Certainly, for long periods (a month or more), doing this is good practice, in my opinion at least. If it were used on a daily basis, I'd say it would be just extra work going through the exercise of running it dry and then priming it again next day, but I don't see how it could hurt anything.
      In North America, our regular grade gasoline is 10% ethanol, which, when left unused in a tank over a long period of time, can have very undesired results. It tends to be very hard on surfaces where it remains in contact for long periods, and as it dries (especially if it's mixed with 2-stroke oil), it leaves one heckuvva mess behind that tends to be like a gluey residue that inhibits free movement of floats and moving parts. Ethanol in fuel does have one advantage, that being that you won't need to use gas line anti freeze when the temperature plummets to below -25, but of course nobody will be running an outboard at those temperatures.

    • @bud882
      @bud882 6 лет назад

      Stan Patterson Thanks, I usually run it several times a month. I run 93 octane non ethanol always. But I have been told even with that it was good to run dry. But I haven't had a running issue with it just leaving fuel hooked up. I keep up my own maintenance on it. So I'm always looking for better ways to do it.

    • @lasse4312
      @lasse4312 6 лет назад

      Just to add to what's already been said: With 2 stroke outboards you also need to keep in mind that it's the fuel/oil mixture that lubricates the engine. So running it dry means starving the engine of lubrication for the next startup. That said, I used to run my 30 year old 2 stroke Evinrude 90 out of fuel all the time because that's what I had been taught, and had no issues at all. Now I've switched to what Stan has suggested: During the season, when I know I'll be using the boat again within a week or two, I just shut it off and leave the fuel sitting in there. It means that I don't have to prime the carbs and filter next time, which can be a hassle especially with an aftermarket add-on water separating fuel filter. When the engine will be sitting for a longer period of time, I run it out of fuel and use some fogging oil.

    • @DangarMarine
      @DangarMarine  6 лет назад

      I certainly wouldn't run it dry if I was in the middle of the boating season, that's for sure. I would consider that more of a winterisation thing. There are two main issues with leaving the fuel: having it evaporate and leave a residue, and having the fuel go stale (but that will happen to the tank in the fuel too, something Stabil will help with)

    I'm so jealous. I haven't been able to get out in my boat for over 2 months. I have had plenty of time and we have had some good weather but we're having the worst red tide bloom in a decade. Lots of death including 300 lb goliath grouper, dolphins, manatee, and a 21 foot whale shark. As of now 270 tons of dead fish have been cleaned off of our local beaches. If you even get close to the water your lungs and sinuses will let you know. I can't wait for some cooler weather to clear it up so we can get out on the water.

      Wow, I've never heard of a problem like that, shame to have so much sea life dies. Hope it clears up soon.

    Hi, I have recently got myself a 420 renegade, with a 40 hp tiller steer, do you think I could do that trip, from brisbane waters to syd and back, how safe is it for a beginer?

    • @DangarMarine
      @DangarMarine  6 лет назад

      It really call comes down to weather and good navigation. On this day we had a forecast of winds gusting up to 1 kt so we knew it was going to be very calm. You do need to be careful of heading out wide enough to avoid Long Reef and the swell you get closer to the shore. I would make sure you have a bit of experience with how the boat handles in waves before making the trip though.

      Thanks for the reply, and I think you are right, I need to get more experience with handling the boat in the water, I have only been out for 3 times, twice at brisbane waters and once at summerland point. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

      I recently did a trip with my boat- 14.5 ft. Starcraft, 2017 Honda 40 EFI. I did 80 kilometers on 20L of fuel. that included a mix of driving speeds. Top speed is aprox. 52 kph.

    • @DangarMarine
      @DangarMarine  6 лет назад

      It was 55 kms. The Green Machine is long overdue for an antifoul so has barnacles on the hull that really slow it down and chew the fuel.

    Totally off topic - I'm about to dive in on a carb rebuild on my Evinrude 130. I'd like to order parts thru MarineEngine.com but I don't see where I can give you the credit. Ideas?

      Hey Scott. I think there might be a comments or special instructions section somewhere in the order where you can mention that their sponsorship of the channel made you choose them. If not I think some people just drop them a line by emailing them. THanks for your support! :)

    • @DangarMarine
      @DangarMarine  6 лет назад

      Probably slower, unless the traffic was very bad. You really have to back off with the swell offshore.

    Because I'm such a lefty turd I wanted so bad to make some comment about animal cruelty - forcing poor little Eddie to do things so foreign and scary for a dog......but I'm finding it really hard to find something to whinge about because the little bludger just seems to be having such a good time!!! You can almost see the smile on his face.

    • @DangarMarine
      @DangarMarine  6 лет назад +1

      Eddie loves being in the boat, he's always the first one to jump in. If you leave him behind he stares from the pontoon with a look that says, "But I thought we were friends?" :)
