    There will be an East Asian Treaty Organization along the same lines as NATO. There will be navy build ups and the Japanese and Indian governments will realize they have a natural incentive to cooperate more closely. The USA, Japan, India, South Korea and Australia are the ones to watch.

    There will always be leaders and leading countries in the world. What the pandemic has thrown up is, if not quite jingoism, a greater focus on regionalism. Within that, we're getting, government-controlled utilitarianism. We’ll be told what the greatest good for the greatest number is (see blogs.eltiempo.com/wrong-way-corrigan/2020/04/17/a-world-in-disunion/).
    Of course, the pandemic is a moment in history. Is it strengthening China's case to become the global leader? I would say no.
