I'm guessing not everyone might find this as interesting as other games, but I really enjoyed seeing how two defenders approached the match from a strategy standpoint. Ma Te never let Hou Yingchao get into a comfortable zone & start doing his crazy spin variation on his chops; Ma would rarely attack more than one chop at a time, choosing to push that 2nd or 3rd chop (moving Hou in & out, putting him off-balance). When he did attack a chop, Ma was good at varying his placement, constantly moving Hou around. I know a lot of this is "standard" anti-chopper tactics, but it's rare to see people able to perform it so well. Ma could also attack pushes a lot better with his long pip side swipes, whereas Hou could not (because of the short pips). This meant Ma had the advantage in the pushing battle because he could attack balls that Hou could not, again putting Hou under pressure. Thank you for the upload!
is it just me or do I feel like Hou's big frame makes it hard for him to really be that effective? Seems late on the ball frequently, not as nimble as I might expect from a defensive player. Certainly the footwork seems a bit off.
@@matmagix3845 Hou was definitely a lot slimmer in older videos of him from early/mid 2000's & 2010's. I mean, he IS over 40 now! Who knows how much he trains, what his diet is, or some other factors that might be in play. Also, as men get older they start getting a little chunkier around the waist (hence the eponymous "dad bod"). I don't think it's impacting his footwork though. Against normal styles, he seems to have no problem moving & being in position. I think his footwork looks "off" in this match because he was facing Ma Te, who, being a defender himself, knows just how to screw with a defenders' footwork. At least that's my thought on it!

It was pretty disappointing. I thought it was going to be a very high level match that we could learn from because they understand all their opponent's tricks. Instead, they both seemed confused and uncomfortable.
Choppers need to be able to play against another chopper. In a perfect world, a chopper would love to defend against an attacker 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, but this is not always the case. You are not always going to play against an offensive player. There are times where you will face a pure defense chopper, pure defense anti-spin or long pimples blocker, modern defender, lobbers etc. I see so many choppers at my clubs perform very well against attackers, but when playing against another defender, it's awkward for them and end up losing. Choppers need to know their own weakness and how to play against a chopper. You're not the only chopper in the world, so when you are played against one, you better know how to essentially beat yourself. Can't play against attackers all the time. This comment is to not criticize Ma Te or Hou Yingchao, as they are both amazing modern defenders, but to those who still play defense, eventually, you are going to have to go out of your "I only defense against an attacker" bubble and learn to "Okay, I am facing another defender. I have a strategy to play against them."
I play modern defense/chop style, and I really get frustrated when I play with other LP players. It's more mind exhausting than physically and you have to adjust to your normal drills/routine to get a nice window for attack.

Nice analysis. I am a chopper as well, and I enjoy playing against another chopper. It’s pretty hard to find them though, especially when I live…

Feels like two beginners are playing, but I know it is not true
Yes they can beat us like a dog.
Kind of comforting to see two world class players looking like guys from the local club.
No, it s just Two choppers in one single's match
you didnt c how he outplay ma long
Some players put spins in a very deceptive way. It's really difficult to understand if spin is there or not.
@20:00 sums up the match quite well
dude
cant stop laughing here
but we both know that reaction represents only...what happened on the surface
@@HrFZ1 Yeah, you're 100% right, it's just not thaaaat entertaining to watch for the audience :D
This is like watching your reasonably skilled cousins at the backyard barbecue.
"Boring game" = "I lose to choppers when I play, I can't generate any offense of my own, and can't lift backspin"
I don't understand the hate towards defensive playstyles. Even if it is not full of action, it's nice to see a little variation
The hate is more towards pimples and bot defensive players, because pimples kinda give an unfair advantage

cuz they are so salty and got mad at themselves since they can't figure out how pimple works.

Both choppers appears to be uncomfortable playing against each other. Not too many defensive players to practice with I guess.

ya, I am here to learn how to face other chopper like me😢
This is how I played when I was beginner.
wake up l0ser. you can never play like that
Two counterpunchers going at it! In a battle of Choppers seems like the best service and attack wins the points 😅
I thought it was going to be a marathon.
Turns out most of the rallies were not long.

Anyone know what gear exactly these guys play in this match ? Ie, what rubber's ?
It's like to watch the game of chess. Very exciting and unpredictable. Thanks for sharing.

Metapod vs Metopod
Very interesring playstyle. Thanks for Sharing. Someone know, do they play with Long or short pimples?
As far as i know, Ma use LP palio ck831, Hou use SP TSP spectol
Seperti pemain yang masih belajar, meskipun saya tau tidak demikian adanya. Lucu lihatnya.
It is as weird as I imagined. "Please somebodh attack me"
what are the odds, chopper SP vs chopper SP
as a chopper ,its a nightmare to play another chopper.
I am very afraid from the guys who's name is Ma and he plays table tennis
Yah, Ma Lin, Ma Long,…n, now, Ma Te who can chop chop chop….chop to pieces, haha…

Choppers will never be a number one, let alone a top ten player.

The officials & audiences feel like..... zzzz..zzz... 😄😄
Two squiggles beat three squiggles.
I searched this because i wanna see pros play like begginers
This seems more like a training drill 😂
Why would someone choose to be a chopper?
Because it's fun and it looks cool
Good question..the ultimate 'cool' is play reverse penhold like Wang Hao. Shakehands players bore me.

Hou YingChao misses too many on offense. Ma Te makes fewer unforced errors and his offense is better..
Who attacked more would lose.
I'm my opinion the best chopper is Joo from Korea
Très laid.
So Bored to see this game
Chopper vs cooper indeed boring. But chopper vs attacker is quite nice to watch.
