Yes, totally agree. Back when homelite was actually decent not that crap you buy at home cheapo or Lowes nowadays that you just use once or twice and then it dies, and is basically a “disposable power tool”
I think you have live near a fairly large city. In my area not much available but if I search a metro area there's free stuff literally every day. I would have to drive 40 miles though.
I was going to say the same thing that you ended up saying. have to keep because you would have too much into it but you have a nice weed wacker THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO
a few years ago me and my grandpa found my great grandpas super 2. it took a while to fix since the pull rope spring was broken, but we finally got that thing running and it sounds awesome
Another cause of the no start condition is a sheared flywheel key. My auntie gave me a Homelite trimmer which is similar to the one in the video except that the trimmer head is made out of plastic. She wanted to buy a line trimmer which has the bump feed type of head instead because she was sick and tired of restringing that style of trimmer head. I do want to see if I can replace that type of head with the bump feed type !
When the video started right at the very beginning, I heard a cat meowing…. You should get the cat to help you fix your power, tools and future videos. Super cute.
Good work! Man, back in the mid 90's I was a Homelite dealer. Yes, Homelite used to be a dealer item, very high quality. But like most things, it's all about money, and it is sad to see Homelite (and many other brands) go to generic big box store items. With this unit, personally, I would just keep it and maybe put the guard back on. Heh, if a friend or neighbor needs it, well, they can use it, and if it is like most items I lend out, I never see it again, but in this instance, I wouldn't really care.
These are very common in Australia, sold at Bunnings(hammer barn) but not sold there anymore. The free trimmers I pick up here, usually need new carby and full service. Even if you try to clean and rebuild them, they just don’t work well.
Put one of those amazon 2cycle carbs. On a friend's leaf blower adjusted the high low it runs great for about 10 minutes then shuts down also put new plug in it your input would b appreciated keep those videos coming
interesting problem. what kind of spark plug is it? Have you tired using the old plug as a test. Also next time when it shuts down, are you able to fire it back up? Right now I'm leaning to a carb problem despite it being new.
For me, it just depends. If it is something I have never worked on before, I don't mind not making a ton of money on it. I don't mind breaking even on some stuff, just to gain the experience.
I had a local scrapper bless me with three push mowers today. One is a Craftsman self propelled, and the other two are Toro Personal Pace mowers. One is a 2017, and the other is a 2021 model. I already got the 2017 running, and it is running great. The 2021 is in great condition for the most part, but I think it was run over at some point. It needs both right side wheels and height selectors, and the bail handle is missing. The machine is in immaculate condition otherwise, and doesn't appear to have a lot of hours on it. Do you think it is worth fixing with those issues, or do you think it would be too expensive to repair?
it depends if you're going to keep it to use or sell. If your plans are to sell it, no it's not worth it. The profit margin will be low, or the asking price will be too high and no one will buy it for what you deserve for it. If you're keeping it, then yes it's worth it.
Hey bro what's up? I would probably use this trimmer as a backup trimmer if it had a straight shaft but since it dosen't I'll sell it or give it away to someone who needs a trimmer.
sure thing. Have you confirmed spark? If so, the engine might be flooded with too much fuel. Take out the spark plug and let the trimmer sit for awhile. Then put the plug back in and then try and start it but without the choke and full throttle.
well for me yep only sparingly if need to use one of these and always better to use than a cordless unit and that,s for sure plus those ones are not good for long grass i find too from memory and as for the Spark plug you took out of there yep Torch Brand Spark Plug and that,s the worst brand from memory along with Denso and i,d rather use them for testing and not running the engine with them etc.
@ I have a question. I have a ryobi BP42 back pack leaf blower and I can’t get it started. I have replace the fuel lines check for spark and replace the coil because the coil was bad. I check it with a multimeter. I check for compression and it on 127psi. I also rebuild the carburetor change out the gas filter. I put back the carburetor and went out one full turn of both low and high to see if I could get it to start or at least burp a little and nothing. Could it just need a few there carburetor?
it's possible however, did you try putting fuel direct into the carb to try and start it? Nothin wrong with what you did, but after it not starting you need to substitute the carbs job with your own fuel to confirm that the engine starts and that the carb is the problem. Let me know, but you might want start a new comment that way, I'll be able to see it better.
okay, just as long as you've checked for spark from your new coil, then it could mean the engine is flooded from attempts to start it. Try un-flooding it and see what happens.
"These are not terrible trimmers". I tend to favor higher quality tools like Echo and Stihl, but... I also find that even the cheap stuff will last if properly cared for. And even the high quality stuff WON'T last if abused or neglected.
I have an older homelite trimmer. 30cc straight shaft. Love that thing it was my great grandfather's
Those are the best!
Yes, totally agree. Back when homelite was actually decent not that crap you buy at home cheapo or Lowes nowadays that you just use once or twice and then it dies, and is basically a “disposable power tool”
to true
Sometimes I wonder about all the free stuff you come across because I can’t find anything for free 😂
I think you have live near a fairly large city. In my area not much available but if I search a metro area there's free stuff literally every day. I would have to drive 40 miles though.
@@lukem7203 agree
So much free stuff ,I just leave a bunch behind ,I don't even pick up low end trimmers or mowers anymore just the good ones.
I'm not going to tell you how I do it, otherwise everyone will know how to get stuff and I won't be able to work on stuff.
you are correct, your location is key
First pull! You’re the man.
Didn’t see an air filter in the video
Thanks! I was surprised how well it went.
yes it was missing and will be ordered later on.
All mine needed was a primer bulb. Ran fine and was used a lot. Happy weekend!
thank you!
I was going to say the same thing that you ended up saying. have to keep because you would have too much into it but you have a nice weed wacker THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO
thank you and yes it makes sense. I will however "try" to sell it for cheap come spring.
Great stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it
Good stuff!
thank you
Homelite is my favorite brand of outdoor equipment I especially love the old chainsaws like the XL 12 super xl super 2 etc.
a few years ago me and my grandpa found my great grandpas super 2. it took a while to fix since the pull rope spring was broken, but we finally got that thing running and it sounds awesome
McCullough too I had once but homelite is good one
very nice saws

Has spark
yep that's my helper but most of the time she just nudges the tripod and lays on the work table.

thank you for sharing that and yes it's the sad trend we're moving to
Another one saved from the scrap yard
yep

you are right sometimes they never really get to working well.
What did you soak the rubber gasket in?
Prolly brake fluid
at-205 re seal
brake fluid
that will work too.
man went from filming cars to weedeaters. Hell yeah.
LOL!!!

@HomeGaragechannel yes the plug is a champion that came with the kit he got same number as the one that was in it got me puzzled

I like those Homelite trimmers. They are cheap yes. But if used right, you can get some years out of it for the price.
you and me both, I find them to be a good value.
Hey quick question, if instead of increasing fuel at H screw for keeping the engine cooler, can we instead decrease by half a 1/4 too?
technically yes, you'll be decreasing the fuel to reduce engine speed at the cost of more power. But your way if valid.
Hey bro what's up? I would probably use this trimmer as a backup trimmer if it had a straight shaft but since it dosen't I'll sell it or give it away to someone who needs a trimmer.
agreed
The pull start system is not in the right spot because it is in the middle of the engine and clutch for the out put shaft for the Head
it is definitely not for everyone
@@HomeGaragechannel you got that right 👍
Turn it upside-down with the plug removed, then pull the cord repeatedly. Fuel will pour out.
interesting idea. I'll have to try that out thanks
what size fuel line does a backpack blower needs
it depends on which backpack blower it is. 9 out of 10 it'll be 3/16" but it should be different
@@HomeGaragechannel Husqvarna 150BT Gas Leaf Blower
3/16"
Hello sir. I have Stihl fs38 weed trimmer and I replaced spark plug, fuel line, new carburetor and still don't run. Can you help me please thank you
