If you want to be angry with someone about this, be angry with the judge who presided over the trial and allowed the DA to introduce prejudicial testimony that did not relate to the charge Weinstein was on trial for. Also, bear in mind that the guy didn't walk free. He's still in jail, serving a multi-decade sentence for another rape conviction where the letter of the law WAS followed, and the judge didn't allow legal improprieties that facilitated THAT convictions to be overturned. Also bear in mind that there is no reason to think that there will not be a re-trial on this charge. The sky hasn't fallen just yet.
Don't worry. MeToo has already made a "different America" -- perhaps she meant to say "a different USA," because US courts do not have jurisdiction over the entire American continents. Everyone can still claim "Me Too," years after the alleged fact, where the statute of limitations has run out, with no proof whatsoever, and still get a solid conviction in the "court" of public opinion, thereby "justifying" the public demonization of whomever is accused. For those who DO have proof, the statute of limitations still appears to be suspended, thereby allowing a criminal conviction as well. There's no need to be all drama-queen about it and act like MeToo is back to square one, with nothing accomplished.
