  • After the white Regal, I found this '81 Regal close to home and had to check it out. I loved the car so much I just had to have another. This time in better shape. The original owner had the car for over 30 years and kept many documents from the bill of sale to yearly inspections and tune up receipts. LOL! The original owner took very good care of this car with only 85,000 miles when I bought it. I had her for about 18 months and she runs great. Had to tune up a few things here and there for mandatory maintenance. Other than that I'm keeping everything original! Just need new bumper fillers and the headliner reupholstered.
THIS CAR IS NOT FOR SALE: But if you are looking for a car like this, try looking up local ads on Craigslist and go for the ones who have updated the car a bit for the next owner. Example: New shocks, mufflers, tires, hoses, etc. This shows that the seller is willing to sell the car with care. Before visiting, be sure the seller has recent inspection stickers and a clear title. If these don't check out, the car may not be worth buying. Once that's clear, plan a visit to look over the car and drive it on both highway and town streets including hills and level roads if possible. Check the engine and underneath before and after test driving for leaks, smoke, and idle hesitation. Also check that the basics work from headlights, tail lights, blinkers, hazards, horn, door locks, and gauges. If all checks out, you can make a deal right then and there but its better to give your final decision at least 24 hours to think through before making any final agreements. Also negotiate the price, before leaving the visit set that in place so the seller can think your final offer through too. You should NEVER pay FULL price for any car or any private sale for that matter. Remember to set a few hundred aside for new plates, title, stickers, and tune ups. I hope this helps for whoever reads this and feel free to ask questions, I may be able to answer. Thanks for watching!
FUN FACT: I found this car in a film called Hard Eight (1996). Only difference is the wear, tear, and wheels. LOL! Plus I believe his was an '82 instead of '81.

Nice looking Regal sounds good. have a 1982 Regal that my dad purchased brand new. It has been parked in the garage for 20 years after it was recovered from being stolen, rims and motor removed. It started right up with no problems but is in need of restoration. I plan to slowly bring her to original state. She has a low mileage 5.0 gm v8 in her now. Love Regal 's and Grand Nationals.

I remember the early 1980s and the cars of that era. One of the problems with cars of that era was that in the early years of air pollution control these cars could have a sizable V8 engine yet have very little power and sluggish acceleration. Also as noticed in the video this was the era of speedometers that read a maximum speed of 85 miles per hour.

On the last one that I had I noticed one time that there was a blue flame right there on the engine as I was warming it up on a cold winter day. Apparently the oil from the engine oil gasket was leaking out and it had caught on fire. I always carry a small fire extinguisher in my trunk and this is what saved me. Always carry a fire extinguisher and always keep the engine clean. Pay attention to the gaskets.

That happened to my mom's '81 Regal in the late 80's. It burned to destruction after she parked it one winter's morning, in front of our house. I loved that car.

I've never heard that chime in a GM car of this vintage. They did use a similar one with a steady tone but not the intermittent tone here. The unit had a speaker and would replace the buzzer unit. The buzzer units were used in lower end models.

@@danielbennion80 these cars can only last so long. It’s a 40 year old car from the smog era. It’s not going to stay original forever. Unless you want it hidden away in a garage somewhere.

I had an 81 Regal, low milage of 60K when I bought it, it had an issue where randomly it would die and restart after about 30 seconds of cranking with a huge ploom of smoke, it would be good for days or weeks between episodes, never figured out what it was and just learned to live with it, that engine had zero balls.
