    Hey Beautiful Minds!! An Awesome Subbie brought up preservatives and I figured some of you may have the same questions, so I am reposting the conversation here. Thank you all for the support and I hope this helps.
    *******************************************************
    Where to buy preservatives: There are many online vendors. I got mines from Etsy.com. Just type in "preservative" in the search bar. Also, Lotioncrafter: www.lotioncrafter.com/lotioncrafter-premium-ingredients-preservatives/
    Brambleberry: www.brambleberry.com/preservatives-c429.aspx
    There are also more out there. I like how brambleberry gives a simple description of the preservatives, so that you can find one that best suits what you are trying to make.
    *******************************************************
    A preservative slows down/prevents the growth of bacteria, mold, and other nasties. It keeps them from growing in your product. It also allows your product to sit out like commercial products without having to be refrigerated. Water carries a lot of germs so it is important to use distilled water or to boil your water to limit exposure. However, over time nasties will grow. If you do not use a preservative; then it is important to refrigerate any product that contains water, herbal extracts, food (Example: Aloe Vera Gel), powders, etc. To be on the safe side, anything that is NOT an oil, butter, or wax may need a preservative. I really hope this helps.
    Also, even if you refrigerate your product, there is still a time limit. The more water content, the sooner you should through it out. This body cream has a good bit of Aloe Vera so I would give it about 3 weeks. Just check your product for odor change, color change, etc. before use. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions. All questions welcomed 😊

      Thank you so much!! I am still learning and experimenting with a lot of the preservatives and waxes I am using. I try to get the safest and most natural ingredients I can find, but I don't know if they are 100% chemical free. I do know that the preservatives I use are plant derived and paraben-free. They are also certified safe for wash off and leave on cosmetic products. Btms-50 is vegetable based conditioning emulsifier and is considered safe. Almost 100% of all natural hair product brands who make all natural products use BTMS-50. EWG.org is also a great website to use to find out more about the safety of personal care product ingredients I hope this helps. As I learn, I will definitely inform more. I am glad you like the videos and am grateful for your comments 😊

  • @Skylightatdusk
    @Skylightatdusk 5 лет назад +2

    Having so little knowledge abt cream & lotion making, I al ways thought the oil and water phases needed to be heated. This video makes me wonder if the temperature can be lower if the consistency is thicker as in the case of this cream. ... So my earlier thought would apply for light lotions to better prevent separation. Correct?

    • @YayaDIYCreations
      @YayaDIYCreations  5 лет назад +1

      Hmm. So, from my experience. You can mix water and oil as long as you have an emulsifier. Most emulsifiers need to be melted. Water and oil blend better when they are closer in temperature, (Hot or Warm or room temperature.
      This is why I brought the oil phase temperature back down to about room temperature before mixing it with the room temperature water phase.
      So, regardless, you have to heat up the oil phase and emulsifier to melt the ingredients. To save time and for a more stable product, I think it is best to also heat the water phase at the same time as the oil phase and then mix them. However, it may be possible to do it at a lower temperature. I hope this helps. And I hope I explained this well. Please let me know if you have any more questions or need me to explain more. 🙂

      Hello Elaine, you need to use preservatives for all your creams and lotion, etc. I use LEUCIDAL or OPTIPHEN PLUS both are fantastic an 100% natural. The products without preservatives don’t last and they spoil very quickly. I hope this information has helped you. :)

    I found this recipe and wanted to try it. I used fresh aloe, pink grapefruit and lemon essential oils. Those were the only changes I made and my batch turned a light pink color in couple days. Why could that be? I’m just wondering if it’s ok to use. It smells and feels great.

    • @YayaDIYCreations
      @YayaDIYCreations  3 года назад +1

      Hi Pamela,
      I’ll try to help if I can. Your oils may have oxidized. Did you use an antioxidant like vitamin e?
      Also, did you balance your ph level? Certain preservatives are only effective in a certain ph range.
      Another thing, some essential oils and carrier oils can tint your product. Try substituting the pink grapefruit.
      Lemon essential oil and other citric essential oils can alter the ph of your product. Make sure to balance your ph in the final stage of production as well.
      Lastly, fresh Aloe Vera can be almost impossible to preserve. Maybe try a stronger preservative.
      Color change does not always mean that it has gone bad. However, I would play it safe and try again. I hope this helps 💜

      If you add water at all, there is risk for bacteria and mold growth. The water is the issue, whether it is water from the Aloe vera gel or water by itself. Using Aloe oil will only add more oil to the oil phase but it does not take away from the fact that you are still using water in the water phase. I hope this helps. 🙂

      @@briannatyler9413 There are many online vendors. I got mines from Etsy.com. Just type in "preservative" in the search bar. Also, Lotioncrafter: www.lotioncrafter.com/lotioncrafter-premium-ingredients-preservatives/
      Brambleberry: www.brambleberry.com/preservatives-c429.aspx
      There are also more out there. I like how brambleberry gives a simple description of the preservatives, so that you can find one that best suits what you are trying to make. Hope this helps 😊

    Hi Yaya, I tried your recipe but in your video looks more than 1 gr of each ingredientes and looks a lot of cream in your video and you’re not giving us the correct recipe. I am learning how to make creams and lotion etc and the other RUclipsrs give the exactly amount of ingredientes and like that way I didn’t have any problem. Probably your channel is not for beginners like me. Thank you anyway for your generosity.

      There are two recipes in this video. One is creamier than the other. I hope this helps. Although I strive to provide the best that I know, I cannot guarantee the success of someone else creating the product. I have set down one on one with people and showed them how to do it and they still made mistakes. It takes practice practice and trial and error. I still have to do and redo a lot of recipes before I get it right. I truly hope this helps.
