I have loved Candy Apple since I built a 67 Impala model in my younger days. 3 coats of gold metal flake over the primer, then 7 coats of Candy Apple, and lastly 5 coats of high gloss clear. Took me about 2 weeks with hand rubbing between coats, and that on a 1:24 plastic model from AMT. I found the gold base made the red softer and warmer than a silver base. I know that it only a model, a kids toy kit but it gave me the stress relief that I needed after days of a highly stressed job specific technical college/university course. Best one that I ever built.

If people only understood the amount of work a paint job like this requires, I'm sure that you felt like your arms were going to fall off after wet sanding all of that area even if you use an orbital sander to do the flat areas it is still a ton of work, Please be sure that you stress how important it is when preping the surface that you wash thoroughly before painting, Most painters edit this stage out and it gives the illiusion that it is not important or required, Thanks for all of your great tips!

@@SprayWayCustoms I'm fixing to pull it into the garage and start prepping the the rough I'm going to rupley use the same color but I'm going with a lace Rose pattern around the edges of the roof lined with some pinstriping of course I'll do all the necessary stripping which is going to be painful of the roof but she's an old-school cruiser and she's did my baby for many years it's worth the money in the effort in the time

After 39 years of paint and restoration work, I1 still don't understand why painters start in the middle of an horizontal panel. Not only do you get sanding on the unsprayed half, by the time you finish the half you're painting, the wet edge is gone and you start from not only a dry edge, but one full of dry sand overspray. Whatever works, I guess...
