I got genuinely excited for a second, because when I was working in a school about 25 years ago I found a tape recorder in the back of a cupboard that looked exactly like the one you pranked Hainbach with.😂
I absolutely love the growing friendship and collaboration between you and Sam. Both of your experiences, skills, and tastes come together to really create something special! This was such a fun video!
I rarely comment but I have to say I completely adore a Stefan and Same collaboration. It’s amazing to see two different people with the same love for their passion and it warms my heart to see your willingness to travel between borders to geek out and make inspiring music. These type of videos are by far my favourite kind. What a beautiful friendship you have
When you get to the outdoor setup, it takes me back...to 1997 when there was very little portable gear available. My friend and I sat at the beach with a Dr. Sample Sp-202, a Casio CZ, and a Sharp mini-disc recorder.
as an impetuous youth in the early 80s, I possessed an EMI L4S, a reasonably rare & barely competent three-head portable open-reel machine. probably more deserving of the "british nagra" epithet, given its ancestry. now long gone, can't remember if it was a matrnal purge when I left home or if I binned it myself. of course, full of regret now that I didn't hang onto it. piles of other recorders here- cassette & ¼" but I wish I still had that L4.
Excellent find. Simpson has been around for a long time, I have an old Simpson multi meter in the attic, good quality solid bit of kit that I have dragged around for years. It has outlived several modern meters and still going strong. Simpson Electric are still going. They produce a range of test meters, transformers, counters, encoders, sound and noise test instrumentation and specialist test gear. Might be worth You and Sam contacting them to see if You can get to play with some of their interesting kit. Keep on having fun with whatever You can get your hands on.
Well this looks like loads of fun! Watching you guys really inspires me to make exprimental music and instruments (I've made a few now). I'd love to meet you guys and just BS about music for a bit ❤😂
The lab I was working at in the early '80s made a portable broadcasting mixer in the same format as the Nagra's, as it was intended for multi-source recordings (e.g. conferences). Of course it had to be top quality, special pots, every connector gold-plated, near 0 tolerance components etc. It cost A LOT, around 5'000 CHF if I recall correctly. That would be almost $20K today.
I'm so glad I got to visit Ramsgate last year, even if Look Mum's No Computer wasn't open when I visited - it's just so lovely seeing the same beach I visited in creators' content I love!
Man, such a shame that they produced so little of these machines, they look, and from what I can tell, work amazing. Would love to get my hands on one of these
I wish ALL of your videos were this unscripted, and quicker paced! Also, cool seeing a CZ-101. I've had mine since the late 80's. It needs work, unfortunately.
Yo! Did I imagine it or did Sam have a Casio CZ101 in the forest, and,, lurking in the back of the museum studio? Ahh further along the video it is Clear! hahaha
While I am with you on the controls being similar and the power brick, this was made to compete with Nagra. It is way more solid and high quality than the Uher, especially note the three head system with tape monitoring, something that came to the Uher line only in the 80s.
@@Mattythebassist_ I desperately want to go and play about with all the stuff, but it’s a wee while away from Glasgow! Almost opposite side of the island…
@@Hainbach yeah I gathered that from the later part of the video. So here I am with egg on my face. I used to work next to the original headquarters in the San Francisco Bay Area, so I took it personally!
Get our EP "Ghosts" now: hainbach.bandcamp.com/album/ghosts
It is name your price for a week
Sorry about the prank at the start hainbach haha, i still shudder in my sleep about the heartbreak hahaha
Haha you rotter 😂

Thank you Bryce! These collabs are truly fun to make, even if we are dead by the end
'The speaker has shaken itself loose... there's too much bass!!' Now there's an opening line to a killer track!
So, we decided to take our work underground, to stop it falling into the wrong hands,,,

great setting in the woods

Old gear just takes you to places.

The dynamic duo together again. Love it.
I like to see these creative maniacs together
Giving Clint Mansell a run for his money with the ant vs synth noises here :) do a Pi soundtrack remix :)

Love it when you guys collaborate! Do you have a video on the small battery-operated test equipment?
Thanks! Basically that is the video on it
Oh nice, it's a much more manageable form factor in that size compared to the big stuff. Would be cool to see a Hainbach in-depth look ❤
Great thinking how to show the British flag ! Almost perfection with the saté prikker! ( the litle stick where you put meat on)
My daughter Ada made this for me ❤️
Love to collab videos, you guys are the best.
Tbf I'd say the actual british nagra would be the fi-cord 1A.
Built by Erskine Laboratory in sunny ol Scarborough.
Designed by stefan kudelski 😂
Did not know that one! But that was a license built Stellavox, not an original product
@@Hainbach aye that's a good point. Ya got me there 😂 I'd love to find one being a local!
Cool Video -guys🎉
CZ-101 in the wild! Yes 😊
I love using gauss!!! That’s as close as I get to tape! Awesome app!!!!🤙

that day lookMum moved ants over to the equipment area.🐜🐜🐜🙃
Portable jam in the middle of forest? I'm solidly in your demographic on this one.
I sincerely hope he never reveiws my go to open reel. I hope to be able to buy and run these for years. Nope don't ask, not telling lol.
10 D batteries?! I've never seen anything with nearly that many
This is as reel as it gets...
looks more like a Uher report to me. push button control and even the power brick trick is the same. I wonder if they used uhers spindle drive.

Future emulation w/ @audiothing?
Well the phasing mechanism is interesting
@@Hainbach could be used as creative fx 4 sure
Never mind the ants, that’s not the woods where they keep the bison ?
You guys are hilarious ^^
use a contact mic to record ants!
But isn't ampex from outside San Francisco?
Yes, but they had a branch in the UK that was developing on their own.
Are They Flying Ants??
We are professionals. Ha.
Where on earth are you guys? Does he just have a room full of teletubbies or is it a hallway? No complaints just wondering
They were at This Museum Is Not Obsolete, Sam's museum
@@M_orcan Oh nice should visit one day

Bit of an anty climax.
Völlich Irree!!
Ampex was American, not British.
Yes, but they had a branch in England near Reading, where this was developed.
