No trails, but when I drive by where my grandmother had a farm, I always slow down and look for her....We used to bring fruit and vegetables up to the road stand and sell. I loved her, I loved the farm. It was my happy place. It was purchased by a sportsmans club and is now all overgrown. I still drive slowly by and look. Just in case. Sometimes I think that if I see her, it will be my time to go...and follow her into the afterlife.

Here in Oklahoma we're expecting a hard freeze tonight- 10-29. It has been raining, cold rain and I'm hoping it doesn't freeze and be slick, lose electricity, etc.. I went hunting with my daddy from the time I was about 7, until he died at 74 years old, 28 years ago today. This video brought back a lot of dear memories of those times in the woods together. He taught me about the animals, how they acted, etc. He taught me how to be quiet in the woods and read signs so we could find the animals. Thanks for sharing your stories, memories you'll hold dear all of your life. Enjoyed the visit, stay safe and GOD bless

Tipper, so gracious of you to give a nod to a RUclipsr you enjoy. Here's one Matt might enjoy: Brownville's Food Pantry for Deer. They support the wild deer population in their area of Maine by supplying acorns, oats and apples in feeders during the winter. The deer yard on their property and the McMahon family have cameras on the feed troughs which go live on Dec. 16th this year. It's so lovely and peaceful to watch those beautiful deer come in to feed during the winter months. I was thinking y'all might enjoy the tranquil beauty of their videos.

Your mentioning the days when people walked made me recall my childhood days when my mother , sister and I would walk to town . Sometimes it was just to go "window shopping " for nothing in particular . The sidewalks would be full of people because those were the days before shopping centers and all the stores were '" downtown ". My favorites were the two "ten cent stores " and two hardware stores . There was also Sears and Roebuck and Montgomery Ward. This was in the early to mid 50's and down town started to fade away as shopping centers became more common . Walking to town faded with it except in my memory .

Great video! I watch a lot of British archeology. When they have a great deal of manual labor to do, especially where walking is concerned, they use the pharse, "It's Shank's Pony all the way." Seems like a phrase our ancestors brought with them to Appalachia.

Good morning, Tipper, hope y’all are doing well, cold weather’s coming, I think it’s time to gather up the last of the gardens goodness and pull out your long johns and stoke up the wood stove, cause according to the weather man it’s going to be 26 degrees in your neck of the woods tomorrow morning. Here were I am about 32. Those marigolds are really pretty, they really brighten up your day, you could bring some of your last flowers inside to enjoy, that’s what I would do. 🌼🌸 I’ve bought pretty leaves inside, but they dry up pretty fast. 🍂
Y’all take care , stay warm. Tell Granny I think of her everyday and pray she’s feeling better. ❤️🙏 May God’s Goodness continue to Bless you . 🙏❤️🙏

The rest of the peppers I picked what was left, and stripped all the leaves and tender stems off for the composter. The garden is finally about done for this year. I always enjoy dropping by to see what you and Matt are doing around y’all’s homestead. My mom always had us plow the garden several times during the cold weather. Like Matt said as long as the grounds not frozen it can be tilled. It really does seem to kill out any bug larvas that’s hiding. When my husband plowed up mine garden several times during cold weather my garden had the best produce to harvest. The years he only tilled it once it just seemed I was fighting all kinds of bugs, voles and moles. So I’m a firm believer in tilling up as much as you can during cold weather.

Your story about your girls not liking having to pick the rocks out of the garden reminds me of when my 2 girls were small. We lived on a farm and I had a 3/4 acre kitchen garden. The first year we put it out I was working and the only time I could get in the garden to do real work was on the weekends. My 2 girls were 6 and 7 years old and would rather take a beating than to picking out rock. For some reason my husband and I had to go down to the Saturday flea market. While there I ran across a man selling Indian arrow heads and an idea hit me. I asked him how much he wanted and he told me a quarter each and asked me how many I wanted. I told him that the price was too high for the amount I would need. When I told him why I needed so many he got a big laugh out of my plan and told me to scoop up a hand full for a dollar. The next weekend, as usual my girls grumbled about going to the garden so I just left them in the house. About 5 minutes later I can running through the door yelling, "Lookie what I found!" and they ran to see. There in my hand with a little dirt was a big Indian arrow head. Their eyes got as big a saucers! I told them to just stay inside and watch cartoons and I was going back to see if I could find some buried Indian treasure. "Treasure" they asked. I told them, "Sure, where there's Indian arrow heads there's always a chance of finding Indian treasure." That's all it took. They about run me over trying to get to the garden to find the 'Treasure' before I could. I scattered those Indian arrows all over the garden under rocks. By the end of the day you couldn't find a rock for love nor money and each girl had several arrow heads in their pockets but sadly no treasure.

Hey Matt & Tipper, I wanted to say it looks like you got a pair of good shoes finally- I‘be been forgetting to ask that. They look comfortable. You two are such hard workers! I really enjoy you two working together .Thanks for taking time out of your busy life to share with us. The Nasturtiums are beautiful! My favorites too - they are so versatile. Much ❤ & prayers especially for Granny. Think of her all the time. ❤ from Colorado.

Another 80 degree and sunny day for tomorrow in our portion of NC. Then Tuesday it should be only 49 and rain, brrrrr! I prefer a gradual temperature change. Loved the drone view of your property. Hope y’all have a wonderful week. Take care and God bless! 😀❤️

We got a lot of cleanup to do in the garden too. We been doing a little at a time. We are dreading the cold. It's suppose to start Tuesday in the 40s and 20s at night. It's that time of year, but boy I dread it. Love to hear yalls stories. Oh I bet that country ham biscuit is good. So glad Miss Rachel is doing good. Yall have a blessed night.

I’m glad to hear Miss Rachel is doing well. She is not the only one who can put her hands flat on the floor. None of my kids or grandkids can. My twenty plus years of yoga has kept me limber in my seventies.

I love hearing your stories. My Grandma had 16 children but Grandad worked in the mines, kept a huge allotment, pigs, chickens and did a bit of poaching to feed the family. He was a real hardworking family man and they knew hard times. (UK)

A good channel to watch about deer is Jimmy and Chris Houston on Twin Eagle Ranch……Jimmy has 3 channels, one about fishing and another devotional channel but this one is about deer conservation along with hunting.

One of them birds in a hawk. A redtail hawk I think. I call them a squealing hawk. When you hear one and want to see it, you can't look where you heard it. You have to look all over the sky. It seems they can project their voice. Maybe they can get their prey looking in the wrong direction before they swoop down on it.

I harvested all of the stuff from the garden that was ready today. Parsnips, radishes, 2 eggplant, Swiss chard. I can't believe that I still have that much in northern Indiana, and it is late October. Supposed to get to lower 20's for the next few days so everything will be done. I am going to try and protect some of my lettuce and my daikon radishes to see if I can save them.

Summer came back to eastern NC. I walked only about a quarter mile to a deer stand yesterday afternoon and was sweating when I got there.
