    • @Psythik
      @Psythik 2 года назад +11

Just a hunch, but I bet you'd get slightly better GPU temps with the bottom fans blowing directly on the GPU. So best configuration for lowest temps overall would be: Side AIO intake, bottom intake, top exhaust, rear exhaust, horizontal GPU, and no front mesh panel.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but according to some sources, the "abnormal" GPU temp when mounted in upright position could be caused by the heatpipes used in GPU manufacturing. Some manufacturers advertise their cooling product using "anti-gravity" heatpipes since in some cases (like here when GPU is mounted in upright position), the heat exchanging liquid can not creep up all the way in the heatpipe resulting in bad thermal conduction. Unfortunatedly, from some sources, the Strix card used in this test doesn't equip with "anti-gravity" heatpipes. If that is true, we can sort of explain the huge increase in GPU temp when it's mounted in upright position and there's only minimal difference when adding the front mesh kit in that situation.

I wish he tested thermals for a horizontal GPU in an inverted case. You would think adding bottom intake would greatly benefit GPU thermals in standard orientation but according to the test it doesn't. I wonder how temps will be with the GPU fans facing up. It would be cool if we could show off the much better looking part of the GPU without adding extra cost and without compromising on thermals.

I have another case that allows inversion of MB tray so that graphics card can mounted with its vents drawing air from above. GPU runs ~3 degrees hotter on the inverted horisontal mount (or about 5 degrees if there's no intake fan at the top), but I would absolutely NOT recommend this GPU mount for any 3090 user (or anybody with VRAM on both sides of their graphics card), as the air heated by VRAM gets basically stuck to the GPU backplate and has nowhere to go unless there's an additional fan that blows it away.
It also defeats any attempt to run intake fans at the bottom and exhaust at the top ar vice versa, so you shoud only run front to back flow pattern with upside down horizontal GPU.

I bought a Dynamic EVO instead of EVO RGB replacing the retired View21 case. The setup is with a 360mm AIO side intake (pipe from the bottom), 3 bottom intake, 3 x top exhaust, 1 x rear exhaust and horizontal GPU. The cooling nearly matches 14:16 on a Ryzen 9 5900x and Sapphire Radeon Nitro+ Pure 6950XT. Fans are Arctics (6 ARGB ring Bionics, 1 P12 and Freeze II ARGB) directly plugged to X570 motherboard,

    SUPER good content.
What I REALLY want to see you test with the Dynamic Evo is either a custom water loop or a GPU with an AIO and a CPU with an AIO in the following configuration:
    Mesh panel - 3x intake
GPU AIO/Radiatior - Side panel, exhaust
CPU AIO/Radiator - Top panel Exhaust
    Bottom - 3x intake
    Rear - 1 exhaust.
This config is exactly why I built this case. I also have a theory for you to test - block the gap between the fans and the case on the mesh panel so that if the case is under positive pressure, it doesn't just vent cool air out the front.
I'd also like to ask you to test out this configuration with Phanteks T30s to really push the static pressure, noise, etc.
One critique I'd have about recommending the side CPU AIO is that the consensus I keep hearing is that top mounted AIOs extend the life of the AIO itself, so I'd rather not be damaging my AIO and have a CPU running 1 degree hotter.

Quick question. On one of the reviews I saw, they claimed you could utilize the upright GPU mount AND put fans behind it, which could result in some great cooling for the GPU. It seems like that would work, but I haven't seen anybody else try that. Is there anything that you saw that would prevent that kind of set-up?

It seems the best scenario is AIO mounted on the back, set to intake, fans on the top set to exhaust, fans on the bottom set to intake and a fan at the back set to exhaust.

As far as I understand from this video:
Best placement for GPU is vertical unless you have a GPU that doesn't have the cooling problem when upright.
Front intake fans are never needed unless AIO is set as side exhaust.

    • @jamesonchen1258
      @jamesonchen1258 2 года назад +1

I think it depends on GPU heat pipe design, if your GPU is strix like Christopher’s then you would want to invert the layout, and the upright GPU will still work and perform better.

    • @ThunderingRoar

It would still suck since most gpus have backplates so those fans wouldnt make a difference. Theres just not enough space so the gpu keeps recycling its own hot air exhaust. Upright placement is for gpu blocks and thats about it

Thank you very much for the test!
Because you also covered the vertical GPU Position i do have a question.
I think of getting the following hardware:t
    - this case (O 11 Dynamic Evo white)
    - MSI Z790 Edge Wifi white
    - MSI RTX 4080 Suprim (or GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4080 Aero OC)
Researching for hours now but cant find an anwer to this question:
Am I able to vertical mount the mentioned GPU with the lian Li vertical Mounting kit, AND fit an Elgato 4K60 Pro MK.2 internal Capture card in one of the remaing PCIe Slots?
Thanks a lot for your answer!

I really appreciate your videos on the lian li evo. it was very helpful to me as i did my build in the reverse configuration. I've ordered the vertical bracket so i can mount my EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING so it can be shown off properly. All my RGB is setup static to Kelly Green why you might ask my eyes are green and its my favorite color.

Thank you, I bought only 6 of the uni fans and an NH-D15 and unlike other people you explained the best configuration with an air cooler

Did you go single-fan NH-D15? Did it work? I'm thinking of doing this too.

@@desmondliu9275 Right now I've got a single fan, temps sit around 34 at idle and around 60 when at load. I have 3 exhaust fans at the bottom because I have a blower style cooler on my video card and then I have 3 intake on the side. I am going to add 3 more fans at the top and one at the back for exhaust

Thanks. I think I might go NH-D15S instead to get a little more clearance. I was worried I couldn't get air cooling to work in this case. Thanks again!

@@desmondliu9275 I have the cooler with the chromax colored top caps and it fits perfectly, now granted I have an EATX board so I have slightly more clearance when it comes to VRMS and RAM and I have zero clearance issues with my first PCIE slot, Noctua does have a compatibility checker on their site it is super helpful

Take some acetone and rub off the white serial numbers on your D15 fans. I had the same problem and this fix worked perfectly.

It seems the beQuiet AIO was, actually the loudest part. Instead of experimenting with this all, I'd recommend switching the loudest part out first as it's ruining noise measurements for the rest of the components. But you did so many tests and described it in so much detail I can't help but me amused. Thanks a ton! Lots of useful information!
The most important part is that I definitely won't be getting a beQuiet AIO model IsLoud360.
The second most important part mounting a GPU vertically can actually improve temps! I had no clue!

I did some research after this video and I realised that the NH-D15 does actually fit in Dynamic evo, but you have to use ram under 34mm. Evo space is 167mm, NH-D15 is 165mm +(x - 32mm) where x is the height of your ram stick. In this video Chris is using Kingston fury Beast which has a height of 34.8mm, so u plug that in and the NH-D15 is 167.8mm, including the front fan. so he was literally .8mm too big with his ram choice here. To be honest the best ram to use here would be crucial ddr5 ram with 31.9mm height and the NH-D15 will just about fit in. Hopefully this helps someone out there.

very informative video thanks a lot Chris you just saved me almost 100 dollars in add ons for this case I was looking to figure out what the best configuration for cooling was and after i watched your video in the description like you mentioned you tested all the configurations thanks again! fantastic video

Great review, so many useful information. I am thinking about putting AIO at the side. Do you think 280mm will be ok there or 360 is must have? In test performance is similar. I also want to use 140mm fans at the bottom at top, what do you think about this?
