So happy you guys are still making music, it's been 10 years since I started listening to Beirut. I'd love to have them play at my wedding if I had the money but I'm sure I'll play this at my funeral, thanks for all the good memories you've brought me
ayyy, feeling the same there, I discovered them like 14 years ago... I was really young, but I can't stop to listen to them. It's probably one of my favorite band so far. I really hope they will continue to give us amazing songs like this one. And like u said, their songs have really something memorable, that bring us so many memories. Peace bud.
I started listening to Beirut around 2010 - 2011, back when I was 20-21 years old. His music had so much youth and hope, as did I. As the decade comes to a close the sadness and nihilistic numbness that I feel is reflected in this song. It appears that I am not the only one feeling this way, it's part of the zeitgeist of our generation. We are seeing the truth now, and it hurts.
Lyrics: When I die I want to travel light Or rinse my hands So I catch the satellite Don't cry I promise that I'll get it right I've been practicing my whole life When I'm fine I become a different man All these distances and abandoned light In time, passing forces did collide Into her arms of rot And it was alright Now, I feel right What would death steal that could harm me? Now I feel right In the darkest lair I feel right again
Rudiger Glique I agree with that, the ones on the lyric sites are off for some reason I'm gonna paste the ones I transcribed and posted in the comments already When I die I want to travel light arrange my limbs so I catch the satellite Don't cry I promise that I'll get it right I've been practicing all my life When I'm fine I'll become a different man all this distance here and the bending light In time Passing forces did collide into her arms of rot and it was alright Now, I feel light in the dark, I stare up full height in there Now, I feel light in the dark, I stare up full height in there

Amo Beirut...e ouvindo essa música , consegui calmamente chorar ... Perdi uma amiga hj, depois de uma longa e sofrida batalha, ela se foi serenamente e está em paz agora.
I’m soooo in love with their music and Zac’s unique voice. Their songs are somehow fun but sad at the same time, just like life itself. I really really wish to see them live before i die. This has became such a cliche fan comment, but i ve never had such strong feelings for any other music. Hope you get well soon Zac:(
Saludos
Loved this song when it was released 10 months ago. Listened to it and the rest of the album... tonight before bed, I was thinking of my mother who passed in 2005. I decided to listen to this video, and it was almost unbearably beautiful and poignant - which is a difficult thing to be in the cynical world we live in. I didn't cry, OK, I did cry, but it was alright. This song... elevates.
Beirut is perfection in music form. The wistfulness of their whole library of music entrances the listener in a la belle epoque era Mediterranean dreamscape
era só o que eu precisava hoje... essa banda faz sentir a minha alma e me soltar em movimentos de dança que e não sei explicar de onde vêm, obrigada a vocês por cada melodia feita 💛
Before I read the reasoning for this video's theme in the video, I didn't understand the context but could feel the somberness in every action. To say it was a private moment was an understatement. It was beyond interesting to watch this.
I’ve followed these guys since their first album and this release was an inevitable conclusion to their musical evolution. Zach C blends electronic music beautifully with traditional instruments....For me it’s a genius work.
This beautiful song just came into my brain 15 minutes ago and I had to find it. Thankfully I had it on a playlist and was able to recall that the group name was a place or something. Glorious trumpets.
Wow, so informative. Is there any chance you are hiring? I feel like I could really nail this position, it's perhaps the only job I would be truly qualified for.
This song brought me back told the old Beirut, what a wonderful trip it has been discovering this band and following Zach through his musical journey. Almost like a trip through Europe starting backpacking and ending up right back where we started. Thank you for the memories that I will forever remember every time I play a Beirut track.

When I die
I want to travel light
arrange my limbs so I
catch the satellite
Don't cry
I promise that I'll get it right
I've been practicing
all my life
When I'm fine
I'll become a different man
all this distance here
and the bending light
In time
Passing forces did collide
into her arms of rot
and it was alright
Now, I feel light
in the dark, I stare
up full height in there
Now, I feel light
in the dark, I stare
up full height in there
It's pretty good but it's definitely I feel light (not right) in third stanza.

Arrange my limbs
So I catch the satellite

And I'm fine
I'll become a different line
All this distance here, and the bending lights
In time, passing forces did collide
Into her arms I ride
And it was alright

Now, I feel light
In the dark I stare
Hopeful heart's in there
Now, I feel light
In the dark I stare

You will!
You know the feeling when you are about to cry and your nose starts to hurt. That’s how I feel about entire Beirut songs.
Easily one of my favorite tracks of the year. Poetry and potent feels in one song.
Saw this live in London on Friday. Those trumpets are out of this world... Goose bumps all over just remembering the richness of the sound.
