Statement by Brody Condon, director:
After the psychosomatic session that inspired the Gallipoli cover art, I ran another session with Zach to guide a new video for “When I Die.” Something was missing. Later I learned the song was loosely about a fictional suicide cult, so I facilitated a group encounter with the band before their show in Berlin. I was surprised by their willingness to test each other’s boundaries, and spontaneously embody elements of Zach’s inner zone. They told me these intimate processes didn’t feel so differently from what they already do on stage.

I started listening to Beirut around 2010 - 2011, back when I was 20-21 years old. His music had so much youth and hope, as did I. As the decade comes to a close the sadness and nihilistic numbness that I feel is reflected in this song. It appears that I am not the only one feeling this way, it's part of the zeitgeist of our generation. We are seeing the truth now, and it hurts.

So happy you guys are still making music, it's been 10 years since I started listening to Beirut. I'd love to have them play at my wedding if I had the money but I'm sure I'll play this at my funeral, thanks for all the good memories you've brought me
ayyy, feeling the same there, I discovered them like 14 years ago... I was really young, but I can't stop to listen to them. It's probably one of my favorite band so far. I really hope they will continue to give us amazing songs like this one. And like u said, their songs have really something memorable, that bring us so many memories.

@@Catspiracy931 yeah. The reason is that i made a present for my mum. We are from spain and she loves beirut (me too), so we went to paris to see them Live. The morning before the concert, we stayed at the theatre gates. And we saw him. He loved our story, he was smiling all the time and hugging my mother. He was smoking a cigarrette and he turned it off to speak with us. He is a nice guy, so calm. I told him that my fav song is Rip tide (just to know if they gonna play it) and he told me 'yes'. At night, in the concert, after Playing Gallipolli, he started talking in Spanish 'la siguiente cancion es para mis amigos españoles' 'the next song is for my spanish friends' and they started with Rip Tide. Wow. My mother was crying. The greatest thing about it, is that we didnt told him to make the dedication. But he did it. A great and a humble guy.
