What a song, I've been hiking in northern Sweden, no network, no humans just nature. This song brought tears to my eyes and so much joy, to be there in this time, in this moment. An experience I'll never forget.
My father passed away 4 years ago. Our last trip together was to southern italy including Gallipoli. Every time I listen to this song I cry. Thank you for this wonderful song. ❤
Beirut as a band has, legitimately, saved my life. Since I became a fan in 2015 (my first song being Mimizan) I have underwent the loss of loved ones, the breakdown of my engagement, and (at times severe) alcohol abuse. I am by no means "fixed" and am on a long road to recovery from these things, but above all else it is this band's music which has kept me afloat. God bless you all.
Yesterday: I got fired. on the subway I came looking at the landscape, the hills, the clouds, the people around . and this song hit me. and everything was together, so I realized that life is much more than we want and what we think. I could see the feelings of each one around me and even the feelings of the city - Rio de Janeiro. life is much more than we call life. and much more than living. But how good it is to be alive. Beirut always makes me feel like this. Amo vocês
In Gallipoli, as in many villages of southern italy, marching bands are still a huge part of catholic festivities and summer parties. thanks for noticing and giving us back that magic atmosphere Beirut
God I love this....I think of when I was young and life had endless opportunity. I was a chef and I think of all my friends and I am in my kitchen creating epic dishes. Wine flows. And we dance. And we love. I hate being old and reality has killed my dreams ....until now...I am 27 again... I don't ache... I have all my friends...
It's comments like this that make me happy I had very little fun in my 20s... :O) I was a mess! Much more content in my late 30s and I only discovered Beirut a few years ago so it doesn't transport me back to some other time. At least not for another decade or so...
Senior year of college in 2008 I got a couple buddies into him. Wed okay video games and open the back door wide open to let the air in and smoke and play flying club cup and gulag over and over
Gallipoli is close to my hometown, and yes, it feels so good to listen to this song - the smile on my face is the same when in Gallipoli, when spotting the sea and the sun. And walking on the beach, feeling like into the 50s, when life was slow, and people were more relaxed. That's exactly how it works where i come from, that's exactly how we feel in Puglia
Dear Beirut, on behalf of many who feel the same way I want to say THANK YOU! The music you create is so dimensional, it’s a place that isn’t home, but welcoming none-the-less; it’s the pursuit of newness. Your music is a portal. I know I am not the only person who lives vicariously through the spirit of your music and am nourished by it. I know I am not the only person who has been encouraged to see the world from your sound. Thank you, you have made our lives more vibrant. I love you, you are my favorite band.💐
Beirut was the first band I listened to right after a loved one had passed away. I remember waiting for countless hours at the airport, and they got me through that difficult time. Thank you, Beirut.
We tell tales to belong Or be spared the sorrow You're so fair to be hold What will be left when you're gone? And it changed everything you know How we were when the wonders who love Southern land, scattered clouds from the cold And, oh, oh, oh, spare me the glow
Last September I spent few days in Gallipoli and I filled in love with this marvellous picturesque friendly little town in the South of Italy. It was my discovery of the year! Beautiful song which wakes up my wonderful memories!
Recently went through a tough breakup and I found it hard to grieve over the loss of the relationship but this song played on my recommended and I was left in a puddle of tears, everything hit me all at once. The memories, the love and the affection, that is art to me. I was able to feel and be okay again.
There’s something pure & heartbreaking about this. The fact that someone at some stage, said ‘you know this needs and Mexican horn section’ makes this genius
I like to imagine this song is about a young ANZAC breathing his last up in the hills of Gallipoli in 1915 thinking about his life and love back home as his sweetheart does the same, not knowing that she'll never see him again. Beautiful song, really captures your heart.
absolutely in love with this already. can't stop listening. those horns do something to me I struggle to put into words... beyond wistful. the kind of truly nostalgic homesickness in the sense that home is someone you love, something like that, yeah?
Watching Zach's tour-opening show at Brooklyn Steel, when at one point he said that he felt he'd landed on a rocket ship, after not playing shows for two years, I couldn't shake these words from John Le Carré: "Like Chatterton, he went seven times round the moon to your one, and every time he set off, you were never sure he’d come back, which is what I believe somebody said about the German poet Hölderlin: Whenever he left the room, you were afraid you’d seen the last of him." Every sound this man makes is a gift. 🙌🏼
It's interesting. This song is stylistically in the same vein as his older work, but it sounds completely different. An interesting new direction for Beirut, I'm excited for the record.
Porém, hoje parei pra pensar e analisar a letra. Sucumbi. Que coisa tristemente linda!
This reminds me of the days without coronavirus, when I could spend time and explore with my friends, go on road trips and visit new places without getting worried about getting sick, I miss those days
Honestly? This is beautiful!! I saw them on Colbert and I will admit, I have never heard of them. I really think they sounded better Live than this recording in which says a lot about them as a band. I don't know how he plays brass and sings... it's really impressive. Glad I found them. They're going in my catalog.
I have been listening to this song on my way to the office. With the cool breeze and wet road after the rain, the song suits the mood. Thank you for making another beautiful song. Can't wait for the album!
I dont understand the lyrics, nor understand the meaning of any song by beirut... But the music is so so soothing... My fav band... Any tips on how to understand the meaning of songs??
Am I crazy? All online lyrics state that the verse is "and it changed everything that you know," but the line is clearly "and it SHAPES everything that you know" which also makes way more sense based on tense. Beautiful song.
I've been a Beirut fan for the longest time and they never seize to amaze me, you guys are art and love in the purest form. Thanks for blessing the world with your melodic Masterpieces.
Zach! I Love You ❤

In a saturated sea of artists, no one sounds like Beirut. Genius

Allemannsretten.
Greetings from Texas, where allemannsretten doesn’t exist.
Thats beautiful, what a great moment of humanity
Agreed...I'm nearly 60 and I've never been so moved by a peice of music instantly...🤝

Couldn't have said it better myself. Sentimental, yet hopeful - is what this and many other Beirut songs make me feel.
From Portugal with fucking bloody love ❤️. What a great return!
I'll never have enough of this beautiful song. Thanks Beirut
You're not the only one
Agree 100%
SIIIIIM, VERDADE, AMIGA
Feel that.
I feel like I'm finally able to see the brightness and magic of the world. Like it was taking the blindfold off my eyes.
With all these songs about cities and villages around the globe, Beirut lets you travel around without moving. We live in a beautiful world.
I always find my way back to this song at the end of the night.

brava Giulia!
Thanks for sharing about Italian culture.
Grazie Giulia!
@@oz.o sure, but this is inspired by Gallipoli, southern Italy, not Gelibolu, Turkey
Can you point me to more of this Italian brass style? I've seen it in some movies, but can never find who to look for performing it.

Beautiful, stay young, stay young, and fight against the dying of the light!
