So, so sorry, Leland. May I express my condolences to you and yours in the passing of David Lasley and offer my deepest sympathies. David Lasley will always sing with the Angels and his memories will be everlasting.
Thank you Lee for all that you bring to this world ,Joy, Peace, Love..over the span of a year or more I think more music has been introduced to me and thousands of music lovers everywhere, than any other music family I can think of. David's song made my day. May he rest in peace.
RIP David🙏 may his memory be a comfort to family, friends, and fans. Thank you Leland for paying homage to this great talent. AND.....thank you for spreading the word. Never pay attention to those who are being selfish, disrespectful, and not helping to get this scourge under control Stay safe everyone 🤗 and have a great rest of your Thursday 👍😉.
I had the joy to photograph David many times in the late 70’s and 80’s. Joy describes David perfectly. He’d walk in and light up a room. And that voice! David introduced me to James which led to me photographing you, James and the band for the ‘Flag’ package. David did whatever he could for anyone he came in contact with. So sad to hear this news, but he is free and we are left with his wonderful memories, beautiful words and music. He was such a gift. 🤍🤍🤍
Condolences Mr Sklar. You were so fortunate to have known and worked with him for so many years. Mr. Lasley was an exceptional talent in his own right besides decades of backing up many of the greats of our time. Fortunately he left hundreds of pieces of his work for all to enjoy
Sorry for your loss, Leland. Hearing the opening made me think of Teddy Pendergrass's "You're My Choice Tonight (Choose Me)" and also made me think of Ashford & Simpson for some reason. Your last comment about the phone call and wishing it was David made me think of the Teddy Pendergrass song "Dance With my Father".
Thank you, Leland. I heard this just after coming in from the garage having painted the letters J-O-Y for a project The Wife was doing. :) Life has a way of keeping people in touch across the endless miles. When David was "into it" in concert, he simply took us all with him. Joy and peace.
Bless you, Mr Sklar. Had the privilege of seeing David Lasley with James Taylor at the Juanita K. Hammons Center in Springfield, MO in June of 2016. Both he and Arnold McCuller always smiled and more than just sang, they performed and emoted. Their countenance said everything you needed to know about their love for music. Kindest regards and heartfelt condolences.
Pardon the impertinence, as a side note, I am astonished to know he composed “You Bring Me Joy,” a song I vividly recall done by Anita Baker Some thirty years ago…………..such soul.🥺
So sorry for your loss Mr. Sklar, I got to meet Mr. Lasley @ Pine Knob near Detroit. My friend and I got there early and he forgot to grab his phone and he came up to us and He used my phone to make a call. I knew who he was because I'm a huge JT fan. Had a good conversation. He left and I totally forgot I was going to ask him if I somehow could meet James Taylor. But he was really nice too us. R.I.P Mr. Lasley
Your daily comment on the pandemic is an important part of our conversation with us, and keeps the relativity of our time current, thank you Leland. The consummate agreement we made at birth is with death; it is our twin companion. Learning its dance is grace.
Many thanks for that loving tribute. As a big James Taylor fan, I often watch You Tube concerts which also feature Valerie Carter, gone for some time. Le, its just a very sad fact of life that we are ageing and more of our music legends will move on. Thanks again.
Sir admire you, your clientele, message, music, personality…. (fanboy stop) I found out about your published stuff, ordered, and I apologize for any inconvenience at all. I played violin and picked up bass after hearing your stuff (haven’t looked back for 20 years) Cheers.
Really enjoyed the clubhouse, Lee. You have created a delightful space. We would welcome more members to join us to enrich the chats even more! RIP dear David Lasley., May you receive a wonderful backing singer role in heaven's great band.
So sorry for your loss of a good friend and colleague. Those in your profession will “live” long after your time with us here. The rest of us etch our names in stone with the hope that someone, years after us, will pass by and speak our names out loud. Thanks for the songs, David Lasley. Stay safe and stay well!
What a unique and soulful voice he had, so beautifully blended with Arnold McCuller during all those Taylor years (and with many others). It's one thing to enjoy and admire his talent from afar, but something even greater to hear from friends who loved him that he was such a special and loved human being. And now sad to hear that he's passed.
David wrote, ‘You Bring Me Joy,’ among countless other songs. As you say, what an angelic voice!!! God bless you, Leland, for the love you share on this platform.
@@lelandsklar6363 thanks, Lee. You’re a sweetheart. It’s just such an awful realization to know that you can never again call them up and hear their voice and just shoot the shit with them.

First, my deepest condolences on Davids passing. 💔 I had so much fun in the Clubhouse livestream the other night. While I can be a pantload at times, the gang you’ve gathered brings out the best in me. Thank you for keeping it going even as you get busy with work again.
Long story: a post this AM about Dianne Warren led me to Jennifer Warnes' wiki page, & to the wiki for her LP Famous Blue Raincoat. I scrolled thru the album credits and can't believe how many vocalists were used. And there's David's name, and his last name rings a bell. The first thing i see in his Wikipedia article is that he just passed this week. Sorry for your loss, what a great artist.
My deepest condolences to you and Mr. Lasley's family and friends. And you're right, even though you know it's coming, the news is still not easy and you have to take time to process. His voice and spirit will live on through the music 🎵 The clubhouse was a blast last night. Take care everyone and be safe ✌
I actually had no idea of his passing before I clicked on your daily link. Having you break the news to me was really ..surreal and sad. Was honored to see him sing many times and will greatly miss his talent. My sincere condolences to you and his old bandmates.
Beautiful music indeed. My mother turns 99 in a few months. All of her generational friends are gone. Can't imagine what that feels like. Never heard 'pantload' before. It is my word of the day.
@@kennonmoen4424 I have asked her. She's sad a lot of the time. Even her new friends are dropping off around her. But it is still difficult to imagine feeling that sad.

I first learned of David in 1982 when his single, "If I Had My Wish Tonight", reached the top 40 on the Hot 100 chart. A great achievement, but knowing how much he meant to you is even a bigger achievement to me.
Fun fact: If I Had My Wish Tonight, a Top 40 hit for the late great David Lasley, reached #36 in May 1, 1982. It stayed on the charts for 3 weeks. It's taken from his album Missin' Twenty Grand. Let me show you his chart run at the Top 40 40 - 36 - 36
Thank you Mr. Sklar. I’ve followed your career for many years. I’ve loved James Taylor music also. I never knew how talented Mr. Lasley was. I’d only heard this song by Anita Baker. Thank you for sharing…
A positive good person is going to draw positive good people to him. Keep up the great work. Ps. I believe my honey has ordered me some Leland Sklar merch! It is the only things I put on my wishlist. I've seen David many times with JT over the years. I had no idea he was such a prolific writer. I know this song from Anita Baker and I appreciated it without knowing David was it's maker. RIP
Amazing artist has contributions with Bonnie raitt who would have thought Luther vandross and Chic also. Contributions with Boz scaggs and James Taylor very well known. Nice tribute I'm glad you said some words about him Lee.
Oh, this is really sad, sad news ☹️ Far too many leaving us nowadays… As his outstanding legacy check out “Missin’ Twenty Grand” and “Soldiers On The Moon” albums. You will not regret and keep his memory alive!
Hi Leland, I was named after you. I always get compliments on my name and glad to be named after a renowned musician. Fitting that I also am a guitarist since I was 8. My parents @bobandevy befriended David back in the early 80's during his touring with James and met you back stage just before I was born and loved your name.
We're back under "almost-lockdown" in the UK - mask mandate, work from home if possible, etc. Nothing the more health-conscious haven't been doing already, but it's interesting to see the resistance against it. Our government were found to have held 'gatherings' during last year's Winter lockdown, and it's difficult not to see these restrictions as a diversionary tactic! At the moment the shows I have next week are still happening, but I wonder.
Sorry to hear about David. For almost 20 years now, I've pictured in my mind of you, Danny and Russ being onstage performing with James again with Arnold, David, Kate and Valerie. But unfortunately with Valerie and now David gone, it will never happen.
