    Kinda disappointed that you didn't pay attention to OP4, that one scene where Ed (main character) jumps of the ledge is legendary. It was animated by legendary animator Koh Yoshinari. This man rarely and I mean RARELY works on TV anime. Maybe once in 5 or 6 years. This cut is literally his only contribution to the FMA series, yet it is still one of the most revered cuts of animation in all of anime.

      @@bigsokward Koh did the creature designs for Made in Abyss. He's worked on shows like White Album, Seraph of the End, Little Witch Academia, parts of SAO (later seasons) just to name a few.
      You have to understand that there are specific animators that mostly work on movies, Koh is one of them. He worked on the Evangelion movies, Blood the Last Vampire, FMA Movies, Fate Grand Order movies, Kizumonogatari, Steam Boy etc.
      He's younger brother Yoh, is a major member of Studio Trigger (Kill la Kill, Edgerunners, Promare) and Koh assists him on occasion.
      Funnily enough they're animation styles are wildly different. Koh is a perfectionist, to the point that a lot of his work looks like fluid CG and Yoh favors a wild, unpredictable animation style.

      @@bigsokwardThey water down how dark parts in brotherhood compared to 03

    • @deen4305
      @deen4305 24 дня назад +6

      @@bigsokward brotherhood is ultimately a feel good story though. it has dark themes for sure but it takes a very light-hearted approach to dealing with it especially since consequences aren't really a major thing. People only have to atone a specific amount and then everyone gets a happily ever after which is one of the best parts of escapist action fantasies. 03 was very much like the other shows of its time, cynical and did not pull any punches especially since Edward's physical prowess isnt really treated like that of a shounen hero. He's a martial artist but still a kid so there are no grand epic battles or God Punching TM going on. Edward at the end of 03 is fundamentally different from him at the end of brotherhood because the kid does NOT get a break and does not allow himself a support system outside of Al. Some people say Ed doesn't grow in 2003 by the end of the story but I'd say by the end he is just utterly beaten down, numbed and desperate. This is why 2003 isnt all that popular amongst the current anime fandoms, its not a feel good show and is very in-line with the grittier anime tragedies of the time (like Wolf's rain etc).

    Animationwise Brotherhood wins, atmospherewise 2003 wins by a landslide, and songwise they are equal but I prefer 2003 but that's due to my bias with 2003 being my favourite show of all time and Brotherhood not making the top 10, but that's just personal preference.
    Love the Gothic style the anime from 2000s had like Hellsing 2001 or this version of FMA. When the art style got brighter in 2010s the atmosphere was lost, but it also had to do with slow pace of the shows and abstract storytelling which modern shows don't go for.

    I prefer 2003 to Brotherhood for many reasons but most importantly, the characters are way more multidimensional especially the homunculi. Brotherhood was a bit too shonen-y with typical good vs. evil story compared to 2003. I also do not appreciate how Brotherhood just rushed through the important backstories and character build-ups that later become the foundation of the protagonists.

  • @APolygons2
    @APolygons2 2 месяца назад +2

    2003 is a completely different story by the half way point, which covers like about 12 episodes of brotherhood. Most people prefer brotherhood and brotherhood is more popular, but I actually thought 2003 was even better. They both have completely different strengths and weaknesses, so I seriously suggest you check both of them out,
    oh and btw, the ending isn't exactly "hated by everyone", it's more of a love it or hate it thing. There are just as many people who think it's the best thing ever, as there are people who think it sucks. Let's just say the ending is really bold, and open ended....
    Which turns into a normal ending after the sequel movie, but the sequel movie is considered just "good-ok" by both the people who loved, and the people who hated the original ending due to it being fairly rushed. so... I personally think it's a great ending. I actually like it a little more than the ending of brotherhood.

    03 fma and brotherhood don't just have different endings. They're completely different anime, the only thing they have in common is some of the characters. It's really hard to compare the two, but they're both good.
    One will get you hyped up, the other will give you depression

      jesus christ so its like watching 2 different shows. is the 03 version better than the remake you reckon? i mean i personally prefer the openings as they feel way more connected to the vibe of the show than the remakes!

      @@bigsokward 03 has more flaws than brotherhood. 03 is a great show and the writers made the story incredibly difficult for the main characters to survive in that world(brotherhood's villains are broken too, but 03 is hard mode), but brotherhood is an all around better package. I'd recommend watching 03 if you become a fan of the series after watching brotherhood

      @@HExtraordinaire Brotherhood is only a better package if you love sakuga, as it cuts out or changes a lot of small things from the manga not for the better all the while going so fast you can't get a feel for the emotional scenes unlike in the manga, that and the melodramatic music making everything feel cheesy, 2003 on the other hand changes way more but for the better and slows down the narrative making emotional scenes hit harder than in the manga.
      Knowing what will happen for the first 30 episodes thanks to watching Brotherhood undercuts the tension making it harder to soak in the atmosphere which will make the show feel unbearably slow because a lot of it exists to establish that atmosphere.
      2003 is like Evangelion, slow psychological and dark, Brotherhood is like Attack on Titan, dark but flashy and loud, and I don't like Attack on Titan.
      The last eleven episodes of 2003 are together with End of Evangelion and the last episode of Serial Experiments Lain are together as my favourite of what anime as a whole has to offer.

      the 03 verson follows the first 1/3 of the manga, but then goes off and does its own thing, its a good show over all, but it has some pacing issues the series drags in places and has a decent bit of filler.
      brotherhood on the otherhand has the opposite problem in the beginning, and crams the first 1/3 of the manga into 10 episodes, but from episode 11 on the pacing is fantastic and you wont be able to stop @bigsokward

      Also if you are planning on watching FMA then you should either start with the og version first then watch brotherhood or find a guide where you watch the first part of the og series then continue with brotherhood. This is because the start of the story is really rushed in brotherhood and they kind of assume you have seen the og so they can get to the point where both series diverge quicky.

      Well I'm currently on the 4th episode of fmab on the patreon! Eventually I'll be uploading the highlights of the first 10 eps once I've watched them all so no spoilers please!

      @@bigsokward well if you have already started then nevermind, its just that brotherhood is an adaptation of the manga whereas the og anime overtook where the manga was at the time and has an anime only ending. So basically the beginning of both versions are the same but (imo) the og did the first part better as it took its time with it when brotherhood really wanted to get to the new stuff asap so they actually skipped some stuff. In the long run it doesnt matter though so enjoy!

    2:42 that’s the wrong version of ending 1. That version was a special version used in only one episode. The usual version has an action cut there.
    Edit: 3:55 okay so you also got the standard version of ED 1. I jumped the gun on that one since I noticed a few reaction channels missed the standard version.

  • @genyakozlov1316

    Where is the ending 4? Too much spoilers in it?
    Also, in this case the anime original ending is way better than the manga one, it's just not a happy ending and it goes full 2001 Space Odyssey abstract unlike the simple happy manga ending, which is why some don't jive with it, but imo it's WAY better.

    2003 is superior in most ways and the ending was fitting for the kind of story it would eventuallytry to tell. It's slept on now because of toxic manga purest gatekeepers.

      ikr i seen both series and i fma 03 just has a much more compelling antagonist and themes, even the kinda meh movie aside i prefer 03 over the manga or brotherhood.
      Hell back in the day 03 was considered a masterpiece but once fmab came out suddenly everyone hated it. which is just like you said people turning on the original and sticking their nose up because its not following the source material which i can think of a few adaptations that diverged from the source material and were far better then their source material, Cardfight Vanguard being one and also Ghost in a Shell the OG which did it's own thing.

    • @JoshBou
      @JoshBou 23 дня назад +1

      @Waluigiisbest99 Facts, it was a huge gateway anime back in the day an a huge contributor to why the medium thrives in the west today. Brotherhood is a Shonen where 03 is a phycological thriller. I feel like most people who've never watched 03 also never got the true devastation of Hughes death because not enough time was spent with him, they were kinda just told how devastating it should be because of gatekeepers that saw 03, and say what you will about Shamballa but brining him back but on the wrong side was gut wrenching. 😭
