After sighting in at 60 feet, I could easily cover 5 shots with a nickel ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL ! Truly a pleasure to shoot! Scope was easy to adjust for eye relief. Only problem the varmints must have seen it delivered lol!Update: So impressed with shot groups at 30 yards I purchased a Hammers 3×9 with adjustable Objective scope! Now a true nail driver!
Thanks, I really appreciate that ..... it was the hardest to edit, and I wanted it to be about 9 minutes but couldn't do it..... but a great learning experience. They will improve, for some reason I lost the HD resolution, and have to figure that out.
Hi Jim from Canada. I am a long-time sub, and I do not comment too often. I do however want to take the opportunity to say TY for your excellent videos. I learn so much, and it helps me with my air gunning. Being in a wheelchair full time greatly reduces my abilities, but I enjoy your adventures greatly. Again, TY so much.
Hello. thanks for being a long time sub, I appreciate it. Great to hear you are getting out for some shooting and not letting your situation get in your way ..... much respect to you!
Thanks for your info, very informative. I never liked hunting because it was too easy with conventional firearms. I will definitely consider this sport as it compares with bow-hunting and has a fair chance on both sides and skill and patience needed.
Wow. What a fantastic video. A wide range of practical information presented so well. I am so jealous - not only of your ability to put it all together in one video - but of the air armory, gear, and shooting experiences you've accumulated over the years. Thanks for sharing...
Rome Jette wz thanks very much, appreciate the kind words. I know that I'm lucky for the opportunities I get. Just returned from 9 days hunting in Texas,Neil have more videos soon
WOW! Jim, you are the watcher on the wall! I think you have covered it from my own perspective! As you know I read alot of blogs, I used to do alot of gun shows and now I collect airguns and try to do more airgun shows! Age does have it's place in time and with airguns we always have time and usually can enjoy them as we age! I would recommend this video to all! It will save alot of questions and answer time at shows, range and in the field! I know most know; that most still wonder why the question or statement? What is an air gun? Oh! He/She hunts with a BB gun! I have a BB gun for sale and they don't know what an air gun is? Semper Fi!
Hi Jerry, thanks for the comments. My hope is that this reaches those that either don't understand, or have the wrong impression of what airgun hunting is, as well as those that are looking for help in getting started!
Hi, Jim I do thank you for your time on getting out your hunting tips on airguns. I am really going to put it on practice to enhance my technique on hunting. I really do appreciated your time.
Jim Chapman is the leading intellectual in the Air Gun Hunting world today. He should be interviewed by every hunting radio and TV hunting show in the nation, even if Jim has to call them himself. :)
Jason Brenner thanks Jason. It’s been great to see how airgunning and airgun hunting in the States has grown over the last 15-20 years. But I agree, the more the better for the sport!
AK D Thanks and good luck with both bow and airgun! I haven’t felt the urge to pick up one of my hunting firearms for years..... you can get a lot of great hunting without. Regards, Jim
Mr.Chapman I enjoy reviewing your video its educational information which I learn to improve my skills. I have two gear items in my wish list shooting sticks and a range finder. I'm pretty good up to 60 yards. Tomorrow I'm off more iguana hunting with my new hatson flashpup .25. I'm looking forward to this hunt.
Hey Jim, one thing that I think those new to the sport might not get is distance shooting. Pellets are so impacted at range and you really need to understand the variables. I have a RAW .30 and will shoot prairie dogs out to 180 yds and there is a ton of practice needed and understanding of wind, thermals and elevation. Just my thought of something that can help someone advance in the sport and ensure competency for ethical shots whether it is 20yds or 200yds. I am working with my state in an effort to open the door for more AG hunting opportunities and will share some of your videos to show how effective AGs are when used in a skilled and professional manner.
Thanks for the feedback. When I start drilling down on techniques will make sure to amplify this point. Good luck with you pro airgun hunting lobbying, it's these efforts that are expanding the sport.... well done!
This is one of the best airgun videos I've seen. I plan to travel in an RV, and carrying an airgun is not illegal. Only Illinois has laws limiting the airspeed of an airgun.
I have a xisico sentry PCP in the .177 caliber love the gun definitely a well made Chinese and accurate as all hell... Gonna start getting into hunting myself after I get back into shooting right .. Last gun was a Lee Enfield .303 so this will be somewhat easy
Really enjoyed your thoroughness in speaking about airgun hunting! I have followed you on utube for sometime. Looking forward to upcoming videos. Parker County Texas.
I am born and raised in Texas and unfortunately the only ways to be able to hunt here is to have deep pockets or know someone with land. I have neither. $1500-2000 for an air rifle is probably out of the range of most here. A simple single shot 22 that can be had for less than $100 and is usually all you need...
The trouble is some jusdictions and state game regulators aren't yet hip to air gun hunting. I'm now having a dialog with a certain OK game warden via email: dove death by Gamo (Beeman, Daisy, Crosman, Benjamin, etc.) controversy to share with you here as follows: ME: Questions about Eurasian Collared Doves in Oklahoma 1. Is this a PROTECTED species in Oklahoma? Many jurisdictions around the world, including many in North America, consider this bird a pest or invasive species. 2. Local weapons ordinances notwithstanding, are BB guns, pellet guns and/or air rifles prohibited as a lawful means for taking Eurasian Collared Doves in Oklahoma? 3. Do I need a valid hunting license or anything else to lawfully take Eurasian Collared Doves in Oklahoma? 4. Are there specific seasons for taking Eurasian Collared Doves in Oklahoma or may they be taken year round on public and/or private property? 5. Are there any limits for taking or possessing Eurasian Collared Doves? OK GAME WARDEN: Hello Mr. Preston, In Oklahoma Eurasian Collared Dove are protected. None of the guns you listed are a legal means of taking dove during dove season, so no you could not use them. Yes, you would need a hunting license. There is a season on them. There is no daily limit within the legal season dates as long as a head or fully feathered wing remains attached until you reach your final destination. The dates and daily limits as found in the Oklahoma hunting regulations are copied below. Hope this answers all of your questions. Have a great day! Dove (Mourning, White-Winged & Eurasian Collared) Dates Sept. 1 - Oct. 31 and Dec. 1-29; statewide. Daily Limit 15. The limit may consist of any combination (aggregate) of mourning, white-winged and fully dressed Eurasian collared doves (those without a head or fully feathered wing naturally attached to the carcass). However, there is no bag limit on Eurasian collared doves provided that the head or one fully feathered wing remains naturally attached to the carcass of all such birds while being transported to their final destination. ME AGAIN: Hello, Marni: Thanks for your reply. I was wondering what the biological or conservation reasoning is behind protecting the Eurasian Collared Dove in this state since this is purported to be an invasive species in America and abroad by various sources. This particular bird seems to be menacing to farmers especially. As far as I know, this bird has no US federal protections. Also, what is the wildlife conservation reasoning behind the prohibition on air guns for taking dove of any species? Does federal law currently prohibit the taking of any dove species in the US by air gun? I'm an advocate for legalizing air guns' ethical use in hunting. Air guns, after all, do offer a significant public safety and noise-emissions-reduction advantage over firearms including shotguns. More hunters can routinely hit a small target accurately and humanly with a single-projectile weapon like an accurately-aimed powder rifle or an air gun and especially do so with a scope sight. It's significantly harder in marksmanship skills to humanely take a bird on the wing with a shotgun. Therefore, many shotgun-shot wounded birds, I believe, are unrecovered by shotgun hunters each and every fowl season to be wasted. I see the air gun upland-bird possibility to be a boon to wildlife conservation and ethical/safe hunting. Farmers, ranchers and rural landowners tend to appreciate air guns for hunting on their respective properties more due to enhanced safety and reduced noise. Noise from firearms otherwise spooks their animals. I'm hoping game law legislators in Oklahoma will start to see the light real soon regarding the sensibility of the whole notion of ethical air gun hunting. This is a fast-becoming a popular sport worldwide and nationwide. Air gun hunting legalizing is getting to be in high demand these days. It's a long time coming to think outside the box [of shotgun shells] and give air guns their deserved day in the field to offer ethical fowl hunting a whole new breath of fresh [and compressed] smoke-free air. Sincerely, me
Jim, you cant' put a sling stud & bipod on an ivanex r.s. 11 rifles, It's stock is so thin that you cant' drill on the far end I'm looking for a 10 -.22 stock that fits the evanix r.s. !
Do you think the hatsan bull boss would be suitable for turkey and coyote? I've shot turkey with the BT65 in 25 cal. But wanted to get the bull boss. I doubt I'll get the opportunity to shoot a coyote but was wondering
I started out with air guns in 1958 shooting pest birds out of fruit orchards. Red rider I think. A couple years ago started reading about air rifles and wow what changes with technology and had to try one out. Bought a springer $100, was ok but lacked accuracy and was a scope destroyer, inexpensive to shoot and no need for hearing protection. How about a PCP, well I purchased a Diana Stormrider in .177 with a hand pump and scope $200 + $100 + $180. This light inexpensive rifle will do > 1/2 inch groups @ 40 yards shooting a 13.43 pellet @ 850 fps (average for 18 shots 180 - 135 bar) and 727 @ 40 yards. 21.5 fpe and 15.8 fpe. These are crony readings. After going through more than 5k pellets I’m thinking it is way less expensive than a powder burner?
Great video, Informative on a number of levels ! Anyway, hi, my name is Ray Parsons, I am paralyzed from my shoulders down. So obviously, I am totally dependent on specialty equipment. I utilize trigger solenoid designed for me to activate by a bite block. I am also using a track drive chair, which does give me a very stable shooting platform. I agree with you on your larger cal. rifles, and have made notes on your preferred.30cal. rifles. But, I am not seeing your choice of .25cal. rifles. Can you please tell me what you are using in the .25cal. ?
Hi Ray, it is great to hear that you push through the additional difficulties you have, and continue to hunt. Much respect! There are so many great .25 calibers out there these days: if budget is not an issue I like the FX Wildcat and Daystate Wolverine as much or more than anything I've been shooting. On the more wallet friendly side; I like the Hatsan BullBoss I was shooting in this video, the Evanix Rainstorm, Airforce Condor, and Benjamin Marauder all have .25 versions well worth consideration.
americanairgunhunter Thanks for the quick response ! I have been very close to making a decision on buying the Benjamin Marauder .25 , From my research, and dollar for dollar comparison, it seems to be the right choice for me. And since you have it included in your short list group, I think it's going to be my choice. At least for my first .25cal. Thanks again, Ray
Do your research on what you want rather it be a break barrel or a PCP, the pros & cons also order assorted weight pellets to find what your weapon is best at with a good pattern. I have a Hatsan 87qe in 25 cal & it is doing well with the 33.95 grain. My next goal is to get a FX Bobcat MK 2 in 30 cal or the possible a 357 if i want to go for deer. One thing to think about is the cost in a PCP also the compressor so you can fill the gun along with having a air bottle. Off the top with just the gun compressor, & fill tank your looking at around 3,000 - 3,500 that doesn't count pellets. Take your time in getting as much info on types of guns rather it be a Break barrel or a PCP, watch vids on different guns & what they are using on their hunts. Good luck
Top Series unfortunately, I went back to Pyramyd Air where I got mine, and their site says out of stock and there is no pricing info. I’m just taking off on a transatlantic flight so can’t follow up, but go to Pyramyd and look up the rifle, there’s a number to call for info.
Sorry for the late answer, just saw this. I think the bulldog is a decent gun, though to be honest the looks don't appeal to me. It's a .357. and the specs on this bullpup say 200 fpe, but I get closer to 180 on mine. But to be fair I have one off the initial production run. But even at 200 fpe it too low to use legally in Texas, and really on the margin for big game. I've had a lot of luck with it as a predator gun. Yo can get the gun tuned and more power, Matt Hodges runs a Pitbull, which is a company that specializes in getting the most out of the Bulldog. If I was going to buy one, I'd set aside the budget for Matt to work on the gun if your going to use it on deer. It's fine out of the box for predators.
Wondering if you can help me, I'm looking for a air gun that I can take coyote hunting never used a high power air gun, can you recommend a air gun that I can take coyote with? Please respond
There are quite a few depending on things like range, acceptable sound levels, and shot placement. If you can keep shots inside of 40-50 yards and make a head shot, and need to keep the noise level down (suburban areas, golf courses, etc) A .30 or .35 doing 75 fpe or more can be a good option. I'd look at something like the Umarex Guntlet II .30 or a BRK Ghost .30. For a more powerful though louder option for longer range and body shots the Hatsan Hercules Bully .30 or .35, or the Airforce Texan .308. The AEA HP Max .35 is another one I'd consider, compact and powerful but fairly loud.
Hey, Great video!! I'm looking into getting my first pcp. Not for hunting or plinking. Just for shooting starlings and house sparrows off my bird houses, shooting off my pouch up to 50 yds. Do you think the marauder .22 would be a good chose?
Hi Dale, I think it would be a very good option, and while any of the three calibers (.177, .22, .25) would work fine, I think your choice of a .22 is a solid one. Accurate, tunable, appropriately powered and fairly quiet, I think you'll like the choice.
May I asking one guestion?how does it work on principle by this gun?I only know the GAMO air rifle is working by down the fold to push the piston and spring movie in the cylinder to get power, how about this one? :))
Hi. These guns are powered by compressed air. The typical pressure is 3000 psi (around 200 BAR), though some, especially the big bores may go as high as 4500 psi. Unlike the Gamo you are familiar with, these rifles are not self contained and you need an air supply or pump to fill them.
Oh I see, thanks ! we are here in Taiwan,as you know we can't have such guns like you do in America or Europe,we can only have a toy gun like people play in survival game, goverment had limitation factor gun power below 15 joule, yeah ! it just like a toy,I have a GAMO rifle, but only 15 joule of kinetic energy, but of course, bullet speed is about 160 m/s, it already enough to make a bird get hurt and fall down,,hehe ! that's funny right?
It doesn't bother me..... some people dislike hunting, some dislike my opinions, and some dislike me, cant expect to keep everyone happy. As long as a solid majority is onboard I feel fine, and motivated to keep on.
First off thank you for the videos. Great Job. Now for the Question. I live in Texas and Hog hunting is plentiful. Wanted to see what you think about hunting hogs with a .30 FX impact x? Would this be a PCP rifle that would do the job? Also looking at the .308 Texan SS. Want to get a PCP that doesn't have the loud bark but has a bite. Also I will be using a Thermal scope. Yards of shot would be 100 Yards max. Thanks
The 30 Impact is a great rifle, but if my primary target is bigger stuff I'd go with the Texan .308 or .357 myself..... unless you get the arrow barrel for the Impact
Really good video Jim...it makes me glad to see guys out there introducing and promoting airgun hunting. I have been trying to work with my home state(PA),as they have decided to bring airguns into the realm of legal arms with which to hunt. Unfortunately, they didn't quite go as far as I would have liked....at any rate, they have limited small game to 17&22 cal,and furbearer s and woodchucks to 22 cal and up...My smallest gun is a 25 cal,so I've been considering a 22 cal repeater....My thoughts are,the Gamo coyote, synthetic Marauder,or a synthetic Kral puncher bullpup...I kind of like the bullpup, but am undecided...which would you choose? Is there a better choice(under $600.00),condidering accuracy, power trigger, etc? We're mainly talking squirrels, rabbits, etc.
Hi Neal, thanks. There is nothing wrong with any of the rifles you mention, but my personal choice would be the Kral. You get a lot for the price, my only negative comment is that it's heavy, but the gun is otherwise so compact, performs so well, and is so feature rich, this wouldn't dissuade me.
Dark Wolf when I mean young, I meant probably more inexperienced. I would start off with the basics. If you really want an air rifle, get one that has 40 fpe+.
Sorry its taken me awhile to respond, I think the AirForce Texan .357 is a great gun for this type of multi-species hunting. It is powerful, accurate, you get a lot of shots on tap, there are some very good bullets made for it. The .357 hits hard, but is fairly flat shooting..... a great starter rifle you won't outgrow.... I still use mine often. Good luck and good hunting!
My son and I are going to try deer hunting in Michigan, 2019 season, with airguns. Which gun do you recommend? My first choice, with my limited knowledge, would be the Texan carbine. Looking for your opinion. Thanks.
That's a great little pack from Eberlestock. I bought this at a gun shop in Vienna while visiting Austria, only to find I could have bought it for about half the price online back in the States. They have several models to choose from...... a great way to carry your rifle. especially over long distances.
could you recommend me a good gun for coyotes out to about 100 yards. looking for something light as I will be hunting at night with a heavier ATN x-sight on top. hoping to keep the price on the "lower" side but will consider higher priced items. Also a quitter gun would be nice, but not necessary. I was considering a Airforce Condor in .25. but not sure if it would carry the energy out to 100 yards.
You might want to look at the AirForce Texan .308 since you were looking in that direction anyway. I'll post a video on this gun soon, but I have been impressed with the accuracy, flat shooting, and the energy delivered on target. I've been testing out a variety of cast bullets for the longer range and roundball for medium range applications.
Craig Banach I'm loving the little REX BA .35, very accurate with roundball. Haven't hunted with it yet so I hesitate to recommend it without hands on experience..... But it shoots really well. What I like about this rifle is its compact dimensions. You will get more power out of the Texan and either rifle would be a good choice. I think the bigger problem right now is that Evanix hasn't worked out distribution for the BA.
I had lived in California and Indiana for a few year when we came back to the states and had developed several places to hunt there. The about four years ago we move to Minneapolis, and I had to start over. The first thing I did was to go to the Minnesota DNR website, and found links to their wildlife management areas and state parks, looked at the hunting guidelines (how big is the property, what game can be taken, etc). Then I go to Google maps and start studying the properties, see where there are stands of tall trees if I'm squirrel hunting, river-bottoms and funnel points for deer, etc. Then it's boots on the ground to scout the areas, either with rifle in season or camera if out. In the meanwhile, I look for any contacts, a friend of a friend with a farm or property. I'll also cold call on farmers and ask if I can hunt their property.... but this is tricky. I don't bother farmers while they are working, don't go to knock on a door all camo'd up, and never carry a gun when I go talk with them. I also don't ask to hunt deer or turkey, but predators or small game which is much more likely to get a yes. I find that after a couple of years and a couple coyotes removed, I frequently am told to go ahead and take a deer. Then there are a lot of places to pay to hunt, and if you search online you can find some deals.
Thank you for your answer. I live in New Mexico. I am sorry forget to tell you where I live. Do you know how to investigate in NM? Thank you for your time my friend.
Out west there are vast tracks of BLM land you can hunt for free. Go here for more info: Unless specifically prohibited, all Federal lands managed by the BLM and the U.S. Forest Service, in addition to some State lands, are open to hunting in New Mexico. There are three main types of hunting available in New Mexico -- upland game bird, small game, and big game (for example, deer, antelope, and elk). Varmint (non-game) hunting also is allowed. It is extremely important to hunt only on lands where it is legally allowed. Private land is open to hunting only if you have the permission of the land owner. If you do not have permission to hunt, you are trespassing and can be prosecuted. Link to NM BLM website www.blm.gov/programs/recreation/recreation-activities/new-mexico
I’m soo thankful too have my own personal 150yd indoor range. (With heat lol) sure makes air gunning/archery/rifle ect shooting a lot of fun when your not freezing your ass off or fighting the wind lol.. I could keep it all too myself... but I do share the place with friends lol.. oh yeah!!’ Best part?!?! I just got a new electric wheelchair!! Hahaha no I’m not crippled.. just got tired of using the forklift too change targets haha 😂 😂😂🤷♂️ Lazy? Maybe a little haha
Marianne Merkus Veel dank. ik heb vijf jaar in gouda gewoond, and though I don’t remember much of the language, I have fond memories of the people and place. Welcome to my channel!
Juan Alvarado it’s a bit of a drive, but I used to go out to the BLM land (and there lots of it) north of the San Gabriel Mts around Palmdale..... think you can still hunt there and it’s good for rabbit and quail.
ive seen many videos of airgun hunting, big bore airguns and .22 caliber airgun can take out a good size hog,but ive never seen a video of .177 airgun taking down a hog,can a .177 air rifle take out a hog??
@@wilmorcapiendo4494 you haven’t seen videos of it because .177 isn’t meant for such hunting and it would idiotic and in humane to try and kill anything bigger than a rabbit with .177
Yes the cost of hunting has gotten out of hand! I can afford the rifle and the ammo but I can't afford the cost of a guide or the lease ( which can run as high as $5k a year)
So if I have a boosted up .22 and .25 what all critters Will they drop at 30 to 50 max yards?? Of course with precise headshots. What would you hunt with a boosted .22 and or .25?? No doubt instant lights out shots. Will Absolutely NOT make anything that I hunt suffer at all.
One of my favorite places to go. Have a couple good friends that are serious airgun hunters in the Staunton area. It's one of my destination spots, beautiful country!
Beautiful country, indeed! I am in SE Augusta County where we have plenty of bobcat and dare I say larger cats up on the mountain. Love your videos, Jim, and while the citizens of this county have plenty of firearms, the airgunners are still having to educate folks a bit.
4. economics = with .177 break barrel, you shoot until you break the rifle. 5. deception = you go around with an air rifle and next time around nobody will bother you. but it is potent weapon when used right.
Thanks, a lot of us came out of the firearms world..... I had my FFL which was primarily used to keep my personal armory stocked.... hardly ever evenn open my gunsafe any more, at least for hunting.
Great video I'm trying to get the fish and game in KY to make Turkey hunting legal using a airgun . No luck yet but maybe when they are educated on the modern air gun and its uses they will make it legal to use . Great videos like this will help a lot . Ky does not allow hunting coyotes at night . If the fish and game people knew how effective a nightvision setup on a air gun was I think they would change there mines in a hurry . The coyote population is out of control in Ky and they can't seem to stop it or for some reason they don't want to control it . Using a airgun with night vision for night hunting coyotes you are able to take more than one coyote because the airgun is silent and once one coyote is down the others do not run away which allows 2 or 3 more to be taken with in a few minutes . I don't know what the hold up is with the fish and game people for not allowing airgun use at night but the public is getting fed up with the coyotes .
This is the most useful video i have seen as a person looking at purchasing the right pellet rifle. The major issue I had with your video is that it seems like you're willing to shoot anything as long as it's "legal". You seem so wise that I would expect you to make educated decisions about what you're shooting. I dont understand the point of shooting fox and squirrel... But you seem fanatic about killing anything, that's "legal".
The reason I stress the legality is that this means there is a valid wildlife management rationale for the taking of that animal. The intention of hunting is to take/kill the species that is being hunted. I enjoy hunting, and travel to many places to pursue my sport. I also spend a great deal of time outdoors photographing wildlife and fishing, but when I hunt that is what I am doing. The reason for taking fox is that in many of the places I hunt them they are a predator species that take lambs, fowl, etc and cause financial damage. In some areas the over population of these animals is significant. With respect to squirrel, these animals are a very popular small game species, and are used in many game recipes. The limits set on squirrel (5 per day in Minnesota) are in place to ensure harvest allows game to be taken by hunters while maintaining healthy populations of the species.
Love your videos. Although it may be a touchy subject, most felons can shoot an air gun. Check state laws!! A poor life choice in the past may prevent a person from shooting a gun powder gun but an air rifle is NOT prohibited for some felons. We are all imperfect but there are options.
I get a lot of mail from the prison system sent to me through Predator Xtreme Magazine, which is my US home base for writing (it's Airgunner in the UK). I've heard many stories of guys doing something when young or going through hard times, that would prevent them from hunting, which often was one of the more positive aspects of their lives. Airguns offered them some hope of getting back to a sport they loved.
Juan, haven't been for a few years but used to hunt on the north side of the San Gabriel Mountains going into the high desert.... lots of BLM land to work over.
Sorry but I don't agree that hunting with airguns is a lot cheaper than hunting with real firearms. I've seen countless airguns on the market today that have gone completely crazy with their pricing with many airguns costing 3, 4 even 5 times more than a good firearm for hunting.
Bo Hector while the initial cost is often more expensive than traditional firearms once you've got your equipment squared away it is cheaper to shoot air rifles in the small bore configuration. Name one firearm you can shoot for 1.2 cents per round. Now in the mid 90s when you could buy a brick of .22 lr for 9.97 it was a different story but lets face it, those days are over. Big bore air rifles are still less expensive to shoot as well many of them will shoot hand cast ammo with very good results and if youre willing to do the leg work lead can be found at scrap yards all over the country for very very cheap. I found about 100 lbs of pure lead flashing once for about 14 dollars and buddy thatll cast more 158 grain bullets than i care to count. Its really a labor of love but once youve taken care of the initial expenses its a very economical hobby. Also one key note mr chapman missed is recoil most pcps have none to speak of and to me thats a huge plus for the fun factor. I can shoot any of my pcps ALL DAY LONG and never have a sore shoulder or a headache. And also you could honestly shoot a deer in the hoof with a .30-06 and kill it. A 200 ft lbs pcp is way more challenging and does far less damage to edible flesh.
3x9 scopes allow you to purchase lower end scopes... at that magnification range centerpoint and bushnell banners are fine. anything above 9x u need to go with a higher end scope... 4-12 and 4-16 centerpoints and bushnell banner, redfields are awful at the higher magnification range.
you know I'm a little confused on your video I understand that you like to airgun hun because of the challenge and the close range shooting I do too that's why I like to archery hunt keep everything close range but but then you start talking about 60 70 80 90 yard ground squirrel hunting I don't understand how that could be considered close range hunting with anything I mean it just seems like nowadays everybody wants to push everything to the extreme hundred yards groups with a airgun they want to take a compound bow crossbow I see it on the Outdoor Channel all the time 60 yard shots 80 yard shots 90 yard shots in my opinion these weapons were made for Close Range Hunting I just don't get it
When you consider that centerfires are shooting from hundreds of yards out at ground squirrel and prairie dogs, 60-90 is closer range. I think your confusion stems from the fact that you are benchmarking distance against bowhunting, for your definition of close range. Which is the same as me benchmarking a bow against a slingshot and saying :how can you call 30 yards short range, with my sling shot I have to be inside of 10 yards? Now that's close range". My way of thinking is that when you are inside that 75 yard range, animals react differently than when your shooting out past a point where they don't see you. For the record, I try to get as close as possible for most hunting applications.... I'd rather shoot a hog at 30 yards than 75..... but if I know my gun is capable of 75 and that's the only shot I'm going to get, I'll take it. I am a bit of a hypocrite though, in that when I see these guys shoot an elk at 700 or 800 yards I think to myself, what a looser, get off your a%$ and try to get inside a couple hundred yards anyways, so I get your point.
americanairgunhunter true.. to a man is hard to depart from any gun... we get very sentimental with them and develop emotions specially if you have kill game withbit and have good memories... thanks fornthe response.. by the way will you use the hatsan carnivore .30 to kill a hog... i think keith warren did it with a gamo .25 springer??? can you try it... lol challenge :)... thank you and i enjoy your videos.. God bless you
For a lot of the guns I shoot, they are costly. But for a couple years I got into buying inexpensive Chinese clones (springers and PCP) and modifying/tuning them. Ended up with some nice guns with a pretty reasonable price tag that way. But if your talking big bores, it will be expensive. more than many firearms to be sure.
Great video. You are so luck that you live in America and hunt this type of game because in India there is no game for hunting with air rifle even you can not shoot home rats with air rifle.
I know with conservation efforts there is a crack down on hunting, but rats?? That seems absurd. Is there a cultural bias against killing or is it the shooting aspect? Can you kill them in traps? That is a law I'd have a hard tome abiding. By the the way, I know we're luck here I have lived in many countries in Europe, Asia, Australia and have traveled and spent a lot of time in Africa and South America, and even considering Africa, airgun hunters have more opportunity here than anywhere else in the world.
Thats because you clowns believe in reincarnation and dont want to eat you relatives,,and some even rub cow chit in there hair, and live with rats,,,,Tell the whole story pandu.
Thanks for reply Jim. In my country there is no small medium large animal is legal to hunting with Air rifle or Rifle even V cannot hunt sparrow, wood pigeon, dove, Crow, Rabbit, Coyote, Deer, hogs, Cats, etc in my private property if they damage my property there is now way to kill them legally if you kill them and police Catch you then you have to pay fine 3000USD and 5-10 year in Jail. Thanks God you are so so so luck that you live in Great USA full of freedom country.

The meat of animals is made lawful for you, except those that have been declared to you and will be declared to be haram. However, it is not permissible to hunt while wearing ihram. Undoubtedly, Allah decides what He wills. O you who believe! Do not disrespect the signs of Allah's religion, the sacred months, the sacrificial animals given to the Kaaba and the necklaces worn around their necks, and those who come to the House of Haram seeking the grace and consent of their Lord. When you come out of the ihram, you can hunt if you want. Do not let the anger you feel towards a community because they have prevented you from visiting the Masjid al-Haram cause you to become aggressive towards them. Help one another in goodness and piety; do not help each other in sin and enmity. fear God. Because the punishment of Allah is very severe. My Messenger! They ask you what is lawful for them. Say: “All good and pure things have been made lawful for you. Eat what the hunting animals you have trained with the knowledge that Allah has taught you have caught for you, and mention Allah's name on them when you send them to hunt. Beware of opposing God; for Allah is swift in reckoning. O you who believe! Allah will test you by forbidding the hunts that you will catch with your hands and strike with your spears while you are in ihram, in order to reveal those who fear Him without seeing them. Gotta say Jim. That is, in my opinion, your best vid to date. Really great info you put out there. I'll be keeping up with this vid series.
Thanks, I really appreciate that ..... it was the hardest to edit, and I wanted it to be about 9 minutes but couldn't do it..... but a great learning experience. They will improve, for some reason I lost the HD resolution, and have to figure that out.
Airgun hunting... because you don't need primers, powder, cases or any other commodity that disappears every election cycle.
Hi, Jim
I do thank you for your time on getting out your hunting tips on airguns. I am really going to put it on practice to enhance my technique on hunting. I really do appreciated your time.
Alberto Papi Hello Alberto, and I appreciate the comment! Have fun out there hunting, and have a great summer.
Jim Chapman is the leading intellectual in the Air Gun Hunting world today. He should be interviewed by every hunting radio and TV hunting show in the nation, even if Jim has to call them himself. :)
Great video Jim , we need more people into airguning !
Jason Brenner thanks Jason. It’s been great to see how airgunning and airgun hunting in the States has grown over the last 15-20 years. But I agree, the more the better for the sport!
I just got my hunting license and I can only do airgun and bow. I'd love to have a guy, like you, around. Thanks for sharing!👍
Great info Jim! As always you nailed it!
Thanks very much. My intention is to use this as a Launchpad to a series of "how to" videos, any suggestions what you'd like to see?
Good luck with you pro airgun hunting lobbying, it's these efforts that are expanding the sport.... well done!
amazing information..he speaks of all knowledge i was seeking
Excellent video and probably the best detailed video I ever saw. 👍👍👍
Hi Dennis, thanks a lot!
Man o' man, this is an outstanding video....well done...EXCELLENT....thanks for making it and sharing.....much appreciated.....
Thanks very much, hope you found it useful
Brilliant , love these type of channels
Thanks for watching!
@@americanairgunhunter how your age mr.
This is one of the best airgun videos I've seen. I plan to travel in an RV, and carrying an airgun is not illegal. Only Illinois has laws limiting the airspeed of an airgun.
Tina Gallagher That sounds like a lot of fun. I love airgunning and airgun hunting around the country, an RV would be a great way to do it!
I started out with firearms, too. I still use them, but the cost of ammo has become restrictive.
Thank you, Sir!
Thanks for following and for taking the time to comment!
I get asked all the time, why airguns. I will link this to them for your detailed reasons. Thanks Jim.
Thanks I appreciate all the support I get... Please do share this with everyone you think might be interested.
One of my favorite all time! Semper Fi!
Its all about the hunt! luv your vids
Thanks Jim, appreciate that!
I'm now having a dialog with a certain OK game warden via email: dove death by Gamo (Beeman, Daisy, Crosman, Benjamin, etc.) controversy to share with you here as follows:
ME:
Questions about Eurasian Collared Doves in Oklahoma
OK GAME WARDEN:
Hello Mr. Preston,
In Oklahoma Eurasian Collared Dove are protected.
Dove (Mourning, White-Winged
& Eurasian Collared)
Dates
Sept. 1 - Oct. 31 and Dec. 1-29; statewide.
Daily Limit
ME AGAIN:
Hello, Marni:
Thanks for your reply.

What ever gets you in the field!! Airgun Hunting is like a cross between you muzzle loader and crossbow, a natural next step.....
Do you think the hatsan bull boss would be suitable for turkey and coyote? I've shot turkey with the BT65 in 25 cal. But wanted to get the bull boss. I doubt I'll get the opportunity to shoot a coyote but was wondering
Great video Jim!

Just what i needed to hear, such a load of info.
Brand new to pcp. First one should be delivered this week.
FX Impact M3 .30
Not sleeping much. Lol
I think with the amount of shooting your doing it will be far less expensive!
Awesome video. Thanks. A question - what are those folding shooting sticks that you use?
They are the Primos Pole Cats, and come in two models, regular and heavy duty. I like them a lot, compact yet fast to deploy.
Great video,
Informative on a number of levels !
Anyway,
hi, my name is Ray Parsons,
I am paralyzed from my shoulders down.
So obviously, I am totally dependent on specialty equipment.
I utilize trigger solenoid designed for me to activate by a bite block.
I am also using a track drive chair, which does give me a very stable shooting platform.
I agree with you on your larger cal. rifles, and have made notes on your preferred.30cal. rifles.
But,
I am not seeing your choice of .25cal.
On the more wallet friendly side; I like the Hatsan BullBoss I was shooting in this video, the Evanix Rainstorm, Airforce Condor, and Benjamin Marauder all have .25 versions well worth consideration.
americanairgunhunter
Thanks for the quick response !
I have been very close to making a decision on buying the
Benjamin Marauder .25 ,
From my research, and dollar for dollar comparison, it seems to be the right choice for me.
And since you have it included in your short list group,
I think it's going to be my choice.
At least for my first .25cal.
Thanks again,
Ray
quadsman11 respect to you sir!! From the peak district England
I'm thinking of hunting coyote with the Hatsan big bore .30 break barrel, I would like your more experienced opinion of that
Do your research on what you want rather it be a break barrel or a PCP, the pros & cons also order assorted weight pellets to find what your weapon is best at with a good pattern. Good luck
Is it working by gas?
Great content! Almost Hicok45 but with p.c.p rifles. Thanks much!
Thanks.... wouldn't mind having some of his traffic :)
Sir i wanna buy this.what is the price
Top Series unfortunately, I went back to Pyramyd Air where I got mine, and their site says out of stock and there is no pricing info. I’m just taking off on a transatlantic flight so can’t follow up, but go to Pyramyd and look up the rifle, there’s a number to call for info.

For big bore air rifle, what do u think of the Benjamin bulldog 357?
The AEA HP Max .35 is another one I'd consider, compact and powerful but fairly loud.
i like your long form videos
Simply ammmmmaaaaazzzing
Hey, Great video!! I'm looking into getting my first pcp. Not for hunting or plinking. Just for shooting starlings and house sparrows off my bird houses, shooting off my pouch up to 50 yds. Do you think the marauder .22 would be a good chose?
Hi Dale, I think it would be a very good option, and while any of the three calibers (.177, .22, .25) would work fine, I think your choice of a .22 is a solid one. Accurate, tunable, appropriately powered and fairly quiet, I think you'll like the choice.
Are the birds not supposed to use the bird houses
May I asking one guestion?how does it work on principle by this gun?I only know the GAMO air rifle is working by down the fold to push the piston and spring movie in the cylinder to get power, how about this one? :))
Hi. These guns are powered by compressed air. The typical pressure is 3000 psi (around 200 BAR), though some, especially the big bores may go as high as 4500 psi. Unlike the Gamo you are familiar with, these rifles are not self contained and you need an air supply or pump to fill them.
Oh I see now,the power is come from the air compressure, more convenience , more faster to work
Yes, and these guns are capable of generating much more power and using larger projectiles.
Oh I see, thanks ! we are here in Taiwan,as you know we can't have such guns like you do in America or Europe,we can only have a toy gun like people play in survival game, goverment had limitation factor gun power below 15 joule, yeah ! it just like a toy,I have a GAMO rifle, but only 15 joule of kinetic energy, but of course, bullet speed is about 160 m/s, it already enough to make a bird get hurt and fall down,,hehe ! that's funny right?
the 260 dislikes just show who the SnowFlakes are.
I have hogs and coyote what kind of air gun do I need for it
Dark Wolf You look young, I would just go for a normal gun. They’re cheaper and more powerful
Not really I’m 19
Dark Wolf when I mean young, I meant probably more inexperienced. I would start off with the basics. If you really want an air rifle, get one that has 40 fpe+.
Nunya Business huh what u said the Rex ok
Thanks.
The cost of a good powerful air rifle is out of hand, What is he thinking?
Great stuff! What's the make of the backpack with built in scabbard at 7.46 ?
That's a great little pack from Eberlestock. I bought this at a gun shop in Vienna while visiting Austria, only to find I could have bought it for about half the price online back in the States. They have several models to choose from...... a great way to carry your rifle. especially over long distances.
Semper Fi!
could you recommend me a good gun for coyotes out to about 100 yards. looking for something light as I will be hunting at night with a heavier ATN x-sight on top. hoping to keep the price on the "lower" side but will consider higher priced items.
I've been testing out a variety of cast bullets for the longer range and roundball for medium range applications.
would any of the Rex rifles be a good choice? I have seen a few videos but as they are not out for sale yet its hard to decide.
I'll have a video posting on the Rex BA tomorrow morning if you'd like to have a look.
Great video, hi from México.
Thanks!
Very helpful thank you wish my father was still alive to understand
How can I investigate the places I can hunting. Please?
Out west there are vast tracks of BLM land you can hunt for
free. Go here for more info:
Unless specifically prohibited, all Federal lands managed by
the BLM and the U.S. Forest Service, in addition to some State lands, are open
to hunting in New Mexico. There are three main types of hunting available in
New Mexico -- upland game bird, small game, and big game (for example, deer,
antelope, and elk). Varmint (non-game) hunting also is allowed. It is extremely
important to hunt only on lands where it is legally allowed. Private land is
open to hunting only if you have the permission of the land owner. If you do
not have permission to hunt, you are trespassing and can be prosecuted.

@@wilmorcapiendo4494 you haven’t seen videos of it because .177 isn’t meant for such hunting and it would idiotic and in humane to try and kill anything bigger than a rabbit with .177
Yes the cost of hunting has gotten out of hand! I can afford the rifle and the ammo but I can't afford the cost of a guide or the lease ( which can run as high as $5k a year)
answers many of my questions about airguns well made and informative, thanks
Thanks Larry, it is a great sport and a very effective way to hunt.
larry stanley I started out with red riders BB guns when I was a kid but now they air guns now days are as strong as a 22
So if I have a boosted up .22 and .25 what all critters Will they drop at 30 to 50 max yards?? Of course with precise headshots. What would you hunt with a boosted .22 and or .25?? No doubt instant lights out shots. Will Absolutely NOT make anything that I hunt suffer at all.
nice video , thank you
what this rifle 5:44 ?
i like your hunting
good explaination.
Thanks, glad you found it interesting.
cool
for me one air rifle...
greetings INDONESIA
Cheaper than a 1022?
love it mr jim
Thanks!
Great video Jim,, way to sum it up,, do u live in Virginia??
Kevin;
I don't live there, but I have several airgun hunting buddies out that way, and I get out in the field with them at least once a year.
americanairgunhunter ok cool, I was just wondering I live on Virginia line
One of my favorite places to go. Have a couple good friends that are serious airgun hunters in the Staunton area. It's one of my destination spots, beautiful country!
Beautiful country, indeed! I am in SE Augusta County where we have plenty of bobcat and dare I say larger cats up on the mountain. Love your videos, Jim, and while the citizens of this county have plenty of firearms, the airgunners are still having to educate folks a bit.
What do you do with the pigeons that you kill
Really interesting and informative video! This makes me want to get into the sport. Definitely subscribed!
4. economics = with .177 break barrel, you shoot until you break the rifle. 5. deception = you go around with an air rifle and next time around nobody will bother you. but it is potent weapon when used right.
great answer for those why would I get an airgun when I can get a fire arm guys
They won't let you shoot arrows out of your airguns... I got the aea 50 cal and the Benjamin bulldog 357 and both of them shoot arrows as well
The arrows are so expensive though it's not even almost worth it I like the air gun cuz it's cheap and effective
The
intention of hunting is to take/kill the species that is being hunted. I enjoy hunting, and travel to many places to pursue my sport. I also spend a great deal of time outdoors photographing wildlife and fishing, but when I hunt that is what I am doing.
The reason for taking fox is that in many of the places I hunt them they are a predator species that take lambs, fowl, etc and cause
financial damage.
Well... that makes sense. And you seem smart enough and well calibrated enough to be well adjusted to those sensitivities. happy hunting!
Airguns offered them some hope of getting back to a sport they loved.
best video
Thanks
Where do I hunt for cottontails in California.....
Juan,
haven't been for a few years but used to hunt on the north side of the San Gabriel Mountains going into the high desert.... lots of BLM land to work over.
I've been to the high deserts but only Jack's no cotton tails.. I'll give the northern san gabriel valley a try.. thanx for your response....
I am a bit of a hypocrite though, in that when I see these guys shoot an elk at 700 or 800 yards I think to myself, what a looser, get off your a%$ and try to get inside a couple hundred yards anyways, so I get your point.
first... is there any gun you dont need that i can have:)
Mario, I tell my wife that air rifles are like guitars, and shoes for her, you can never have too many....
americanairgunhunter true.. to a man is hard to depart from any gun... we get very sentimental with them and develop emotions specially if you have kill game withbit and have good memories... thanks fornthe response.. by the way will you use the hatsan carnivore .30 to kill a hog... i think keith warren did it with a gamo .25 springer??? can you try it... lol challenge :)... thank you and i enjoy your videos.. God bless you
and, Jim, you've got to be able to afford a decent airgun. I can't, so I'll have to stick to the powder burners I've already got. nice vid though.
For a lot of the guns I shoot, they are costly. But for a couple years I got into buying inexpensive Chinese clones (springers and PCP) and modifying/tuning them. Ended up with some nice guns with a pretty reasonable price tag that way. But if your talking big bores, it will be expensive. more than many firearms to be sure.
you can hunt turkey in new mexico.
With an airgun? Did this just change in the hunting regulations? If I saw this was legal I'd be there in a minute, but I don't think it is.

Holy Quran
O you who believe! Fulfill your agreements exactly.
However, whoever exceeds the forbidden limit, for them there is a painful punishment
brake the bank he has a bigger bank then i do by the time you buy every thing you need to shoot a PCP there goes the bank 1500.00$ to 2000.00 easily if you want just a starter.
