Happy Sunday, Bridget! Thanks for sharing some background into your daily life. It was fun seeing Walter hanging out with you while your husband and sons were out of the house. I like how you watch a movie working. I often put on a RUclips video or a TV series I'm streaming while I'm tackling some tasks. The partner activity would be really helpful for my students to improve their listening comprehension. I hope you have an amazing week ahead! 💜

Hey there Mandy! Walter was sooooo lonely with the boys not around. He was my literal shadow the entire time. Now that everyone is back, he is MUCH happier. That partner activity was something I learned about when I was a brand new teacher (I cannot remember from where) and it is the BEST thing. I like this idea much better than having students listen to me with a powerpoint and taking notes.

Standing binder clips - brilliant! The issue looks amazing and I can’t wait to use it!

I teach 8th grade, but I am finding that many of my students do not have a strong foundation with basic comprehension skills. A lot of them don't remember concepts that they learned in elementary school. I modify your activities and advice to help them before we start the higher-level thinking that our standards require.

You are so right! So many of the kids are coming not prepared for middle and high school. I'm glad you are able to take these ideas and tweak them for your students. Thank you for sharing your insight.

I loved this! I usually watch you videos. But I may have missed something. Why do you call them issues?

Great question! So in my community, I have resources that teachers can use to enhance their lessons or core program. They make learning explicit and more collaborative while scaffolding the learning for students (core programs tend to just go into a big skill without every scaffolding... but that is a whole other things we could talk about). On top of that and the learning sessions we have, the "Issues" are mini-units that are engaging and rigorous. We call them "Issues" because, like a magazine, they are only released a few times a year. I got the idea from Magnolia Magazine.... they release one every season (4 in a year). So in Bridging Literacy we release one each quarter of the year. Hope this helps!

@@BridgingLiteracy yes it does make sense. Thanks for the clarification. I was thinking it was an issue like a problem. lol.
