+moose_aaron At least you're honest to your children and tell them that their dreams will not vome true, they will die in pain and life will keep hitting them and they won't be able to get up... Isn't that great?
grüße mein lieber aus dem hohen norden! yep im german too and I wasn't that shocked about the original stories 'cause I read them also. there are many crazy grimm stories like kill an old lady because she ate your chicken... yes we are a fun country :-D
Each time I go to my grand parents place house, they let me sleep in a bedroom where there was a book with Grimm fairytails just next to the bed. My grandmother read it to me every single time...
Not exactly a disney story, but when Goldilocks runs away from the bears house, she trips and snaps her neck. Brothers Grimm were really happy people, weren't they?
My mom had a very old, very small leather book she had inherited from her great great grandmother with all of the original Bruder Grimm tales in german. I read it when I was 9. All of it. And all of the gruesome details you mentioned, plus other "fairy tales". Needless to say... I didn't have a childhood that could be destroyed to begin with.
Know the feeling, I grew up on Norwegian folklore with stories where trolls stabbed themselves to death and stories where they cut up peoples backs and poured salt in their wounds because they couldn't make a princess speechless. But at least some of them had a happy ending.
There is a slight positive thing that the mermaid gains. Mermaids have no souls so they gain nothing when they die and become foam that fades away. Because of the mermaid's love for the prince and her selfless act she actually does gain a soul and watches over the prince. Still not a great thing but at least she got her own soul.
You know a lot of people complain about Disney "kidifying" a lot of these stories. But when you really look at it, a lot of the older, darker versions of these stories aren't really BETTER stories, at least not from a narrative stand point. A lot of things make little sense, are unsatisfying from a conclusion aspect, and are so dreary that if you released them as movies today most people would mock them for being edge lord-y. So I can actually understand why Disney made the changes they did.
Fairytales suck. When I was like 6 years old i was watching this fairytale short movie (IT WAS MADE FOR KIDS) called "Bluebeard". I don't know if you've ever heard of it but it's about this dude called Bluebeard (I think) who after his wife died meets another woman who he finds really beautiful so they get married. Nice story so far? Well, when Bluebeard is leaving his castle for a couple of days he gives his wife the keys of every room of the castle. She's allowed to go into every room except for one. Because she's curious, she does go into the room and finds multiple dead bodies of women there. At that moment Bluebeard came home and also killed her. You can understand that 6 year old me was TERRIFIED. WHY WOULD YOU SHOW THAT TO KIDS
The woman didn't die (in the animation), two men had came in and saved her, but ended up killing Bluebeard, and setting his castle on fire. The girl went back to who she was before she married that man.
I can't believe how few people actually know the original stories. The little mermaid, Cinderella, The Frog Prince, Pinocchio, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, all of those were the stories we read in our books as children. There are some other disturbing ones like Hansel and Gretel(Witch gets burnt alive in an oven), Blue Beard (Kills his wives), Mother Goat and the Wolf(A wolf eats all of the goats children, so she takes a knife to him while he is sleeping, guts him and frees her children, and then fills his belly with rocks so that when he drinks some water he falls in the river and drowns!)
I love the story of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, so glad there's a stage version of the Disney musical where they stay truer to the novel. Also, the real story of Pocahontus sounds so much more interesting than the movie.
Well I grew up with every single one of these (Grimm, when available, or Hans Christian Andersen), and I find huge joy in reading out the grimm tales to my murican friends. It's absolutely priceless
I grew up with a German version of the little mermaid So, she got her legs, but had no voice and every step hurt her but after some time she got them back, but magic isn't priceless so she vanished into water and since then the prince stood on his balcony every night and watched the water moving. I think it's really sad, but so cute, too
Thank you for pointing these out. It's good to see someone do this. I've had these conversations with my parents and with my kids with each movie. It always creates interesting conversations.
The "Salat" that Rapunzel's mother wanted is actually a plant called "Rapunzel" in german, so that's where she got her name from. And you forgot the end of the story, because after the prince was blinded he finds Rapunzel years, she starts crying and two of her tears fall on the eyes of the prince and he is able to see again. He then brings her to his land where they live long and happy. Oh and in the original grimm version of the sleeping beauty a frog fullfilled her wish for a child. And the castle is covered in Thorns and many princes try to get to her but they get stuck in the Thorns and die a miserable death. Btw. I grew up with the original versions and never found them disturbing. I didn't like a lot of disney movies because the were so different.
To be fair, I grew up watching Fairytale Theatre and reading the Brother's Grimm tales. Both of which show or explain most of what happened. (I think Fairytale Theatre may have cut a few things out, but most of it was there) Obviously the Grimm tales had everything in full. lol I did grow up watching Disney movies as well, granted. But, I've always known most of the original origins of stories. I'm not sure which I prefer, though being able to watch light hearted Disney movies is nice. c:
I'm danish so i've grown up with the "true" story behind The little mermaid. And maybe that's why i prefer that version :-) I think it's more about TRUE love, then the Disney version
I'm surprised the original ending to Fox and the Hound wasn't talked about. That one is super dark and is one of the few changed Disney endings that are better than the original source material. It basically ends with Copper's owner killing Copper because he's too old to take care of him. But before that, they hunt Tod because he killed Chief (the older dog) and they hunt Tod and kill his kids and wife (twice as he had a second wife). Really really dark
The Jungle book - Disney version: Mowgli instantly falls in love with the girl at the end and is lured into the village Original version: Mowgli is not as easily welcomed by the villagers and banishes him back into the jungle and the ones who showed him kindness gets tortured, lovely. Also, Baloo from the original story is not as easygoing as disney's version depiction of him as Disney's Bagheera inherits this personality instead
Yeah... I worked at a school with the traditional Little Mermaid story. It had gorgeous illustrations and like 100 words per page so it was there for weeks before I found it and pulled it.
I always laugh at the thought of how brutal the Grimm's tales are :D I'm german and those were the stories I was told before going to bed... aaah good times
The goddess Hera isn't Heracles's mother. Zeus disgusted himself as a swan and raped a moral woman, who then was happy about finally having a child and named him Heracles for the goddess Hera who she believed blessed her with a child. Hera finds out and is pissed so she sets out to ruin his life by making him go mad and brutally murder his wife, Megara, and their children. He is then sentenced to perform 7 impossible tasks to redeem himself of the brutal slaying of his family.
+Marijke Wildermuth ther are plenty of retelings of his story. the one i know gpoes kinda like this as you sad the goddess Hera isn't Heracles's mother. Zeus raped mortal woman (something that happens very often in greek mythology, like every other story or so), who was actualy a maried princes. Herra finds out and blesses her with one more child from the king, so she gives bith to twins - son of Zeus and son of the king. Obviously first one born would be king. Herra snaps fingers and kings son is born first and the son of Zeus is to be his servant forever. Yeeeeeee Zeus comes to save the day, stating that Hercules will be free after 7 impossible tasks. The thing about murdering his family, about the same as you sad - Hera poors poison into his wine and makes him mad and he kills them all. And buy the whay thats not his first alcohol induced killing spree. On numerouse simular ocasions, without Hera`s help he kills his teacher the centaur Haron, many dryads, people ... Thing is he regrets killing his teacher often in the storyes that i red, but his first wife Megara and childs ... scruw them he gets meried again next year. Oh and he kills his music teacher, bashing him with a githar (or whatever they had), becouse he was iratated that Herck didn like learning music. Coming back to the impossible tasks. Funny things is that the of them that is accepted as probably the most amaizing is cleaning crap of a cow yard of some king owning thousands of cows. How is that for heroic you sisi modern heroes? Also buy the way he rearly doesnt go alone on his quests and you know what usualy happens to minor support caracters, add to that ocasualy Herkules killing some of them personaly for litle to no reason. His story actualy ends with his life. Relatives of his old teacher Haron give gift for him to his wife (thirth or forth at that point, cant remember), a cloack that had to heal him couse he was very ill. Yes, heroes got sick days! Surprice, cloack is covered in poison and Herk dies. Zeus turns him into some minor god of fitness that faids into nothing, as he is never mentioned again in greek mythology. Its generaly a sad story about a hero doing great heroick deed, then during celebration killing someone (or many) in his alcohol induced killing sprees, then regreting and have to do one more heroic deed to whash out the shame, then repeat again ...
+Marijke Wildermuth 1) It's "disguised" not "disgusted". 2) In no telling of Heracles was she raped and excited to find herself with child. He was named Heracles in an attempt to mollify Hera. 3) It's 12 labours.
+zulzmei The centaur's name is Chiron. It's 12 tasks. Hera di not snap her fingers to make Heracle's brother born first, but arranged it by magic and trickery with the goddess of child birth. Hera made him crazy with Lyssa, insanity personified. And his soul was split. Part of it became a minor deity, but the other part is in Hades. He is mentioned several times in mythology too.
+Marijke Wildermuth hey at last the Kevin Sorbo Nineties version got it somewhat right. Herc isn't Hera's son, he loses his wife and kids, and he travels the countryside helping out people while being picked on by some of the gods. It's a good thing he had his best friend by his side during those wacky adventures.
Disney didn't really lie... They transformed the most scary stories into a much friendly-ish(Pinocchio still scared me though) stories, which was pretty genius of them. And it wouldn't really ruin any of your childhood unless you were told or researched the originals.
I wish people would stop pointing out "The Little Mermaid kills herself at the end". That's like saying "Jesus dies at the end of the bible" or "Harry Potter dies at the end of the seventh book"; technically true, but completely misleading. Saying the mermaid kills herself by throwing herself into the sea implies she's depressed, where the real issue is she accepted death because the only way to escape it was morally wrong. More importantly, she thinks she's going to turn into sea foam because mermaids don't have souls and so when their lives end, they just cease to exist (so, you know, how it works for humans in the real world, but not how it works for humans in this book because humans are special snowflakes and that's why the mermaid wants to be one), but the story ends with her being _rewarded for her sacrifice_, being granted an immortal soul, and spending the rest of eternity doing good on earth as an angel of god. Yes, the original Little Mermaid is more morbid than the Disney version, but the ending couldn't be more uplifting if you tried. Honestly, I wish Disney would re-release The Little Mermaid with an alternate ending. We all WANT to like this movie, but the harsh reality is it hasn't aged well. The main criticism is that Ariel only acts selfishly and gets rewarded for it, causing it to be a pretty bit of nothing. With cultural sensibilities having changed after this movie was released about how dark a subject matter is allowed in a children's movie (even just within the Disney Renaissance), I think it would be very appropriate if they left the part about the magic knife in. Not only would it be more true to the source material, but it would give Ariel a much needed (and very congruent with the rest of the movie) character arc. She doesn't have to become an angel; she can still end up with the prince; but make her face a point where this character who's been completely selfish for the past hour and a half has to either do the unthinkable or take responsibility for her choices. Yeah, it's cliche, but it's better than her getting to be human cus herpty derp.
When I was in first grade, I saw one of the reading books in the classroom was the Little Mermaid, and Inthought it was based on the disney version, however it was the Grimm's version, and I was scarred for life.
The comments are all "I'm from [insert country] and I grew up reading the Grimm version". whaaat? I'm American, so did we just grow up sheltered or something because some of these I have never heard before and they are horrifing!
I remember how shocked I was when I read the original version of Grimms fairy tales ten years ago. there is no happily ever after in Grimms fairy tales...
I learned about the original version of The Little Mermaid the fun way. My mother, unaware of the original ending, bought the picture book of what was apparently the original at a book fair and asked me to read it to my little sister for her bedtime, which I did. We were laughing by the end.
"The hunchback of Notre Dame is based on a French book." "One of the main characters dies in a sad way at the end." Why did you feel you needed to say the same thing twice?
but the little mermaid turned into a weird air spirit so she could have the eternal soul she wanted in exchange for a hundred years of good actions.... so it's not that bad
I didn't watch Disney movies until I was about 9 or 10, so these "horrible" versions are exactly what I grew up with. I always thought that it was a good thing because they're all meant to be moral stories about the fickleness of love and greed. Right? Btw sorry for my English, it's my fourth language
Marcos Moreno lets see, Hercules's father, zeus raped his mother and that's how he was born, he drove mad and killled his children after he was given a poison cloth and poked his own eyes out
He also killed one of his friends and mentors (accidentally) and had to do I believe 2 or 3 more trails then he was told originally to repent cause some "didn't count" I think......I could be horribly wrong. :)
Well.......disney just wanted to turn those pure evil stories into something pure good. In other words, disney just wanted to make everything better for everyone you know. So do you understand what i'm talking about here?
+Rose Angel I've been seeing your comments everywhere... seriously.. how old are you? Ever heard of research? try to research the origin of where all the disney movies comes from. What book they are based on. It's not that hard to google it right?
Dude, you're STILL misrepresenting the original stories! For example, in The Little Mermaid, the crucial part you're missing is that the mermaid's motivation was discovering that humans have a soul and mermaids do not. Her self-sacrificial end - killing herself rather than killing the prince - transforms her into a spirit of the air. She ends off going about the world, doing good works, until she earns her way into Heaven. The thing is, you can't judge these stories apart from the worldview of the people telling them. Hans Christian Andersen was a Christian. In his view, death is not the end of life, and survival is not the highest and noblest goal.
In the original written by Hans Christian Andersen. Check it out: www.gutenberg.org/files/32572/32572-h/32572-h.htm#Page_124 I discovered in a conversation about this that a friend of mine had the same problem. The only versions of the story she had read had edited out the ending, perhaps under a pretense that it seemed tacked on or insufficiently "dark" or something. But Little Mermaid CANNOT be properly understood without that ending.
What about how whenever a child cries one more day is added onto her good deeds? She's never going to be allowed in heaven and that's actually awful. People told these stories to kids?
Don't cry then. You don't want to be guilty of adding to the Little Mermaid's days! That was a typical example of Hans Christian Andersen's moralizing. Remember that these were stories told to kids, with a moral about how you, as a child, should behave.
The Fox & the Hound, one of my favorite Disney movies, also has a dark real ending. Fox gets killed, even after saving the hunter's life, and hound gets killed by its owner, because he gets old, and can't live, like he used to...
you forgot about the story of vince mcmahon where he took the loves of his life roman and cena in his pool at greenwitch and had a lovely foursone with the wwe belt
I have to say, that original Little Mermaid plot would have been far more powerful as a film, compared to the Disney version. Pity they wanted to whitewash such a emotionally charged ending.
What about the fact that in the tale of Heracles (that's Heracles, not Hercules), Hera actually hated the boy because he was a demigod, and the result of Zeus' infidelity. Here are just a few things that happen in that wonderful story. 1. Hera tries to kill an infant child with poisonous snakes. 2. Hera causes an adult Heracles to go insane, and murder his entire family. 3. After he atones for this (which is a very long and interesting story) she does it again. 4. When he finally marries again, his new wife is nearly raped by a centaur. 5. His wife accidentally poisons him with that same centaurs blood.
Missed out big time on Tarzan. The actual book was so fucked. Tarzan's hobby was hunting down and killing people from the local tribe (who just happened to be cannibals, so ok Tarzan gets a pass on that I guess) and stringing their corpses from the trees (not entirely necessary unless you're a sociopath). The baby gorilla is not eaten by a leopard, but is instead eaten by the other gorillas in a feeding frenzy (one of which was the baby's own father). The book also describes gorilla husbands beating their gorilla wives. Also, just for kicks, Jane is very nearly RAPED by a gorilla . . . Yeah. Naturally after such a wonderful experience she does not decide to stay in the jungle and goes home. Tarzan follows her to England, tries to woo her, and is flat out turned down. The End. Read this book back in middle school so I'm probably forgetting some other awful things in it.
+FallenAngelKystre I thought he told her "My mother was an ape, and I never knew my father." Which was AFTER he found out he really was Lord Greystroke--heir to the title--so that she could be with a civilized man. He is also friends with some tribesman, the ones he hunts down are from a rival--and yes, cannibalistic tribe--so while skinning them could be seen as excessive it also serves as a warning to the other tribe. Your other points are accurate, although I do believe another dark point you missed was Jane's father dying in the jungle. I also have not read it in some time, so that could be wrong as well. XD
What's left from my Fucking childhood is this: Batman:The Animated Series Justice League :The Animated Series Dragon Ball Z Alladin The Jungle Book Super Mario Bros. Cartoon and Batman Begins 😢😭😢😭
fam,,,,,,,,, Disney is for little kids, girls mostly, so obviously they're not just going to suddenly include a woman being raped, suicide, mutilation, etc etc. If you want a grim Disney movie, The Hunchback of Notre Dame is probably the best you're gonna get- If it doesn't have to be Disney, just animated, I'd suggest Felidae^ It has a similar animation style to some of Disney's films, and it's basically a murder mystery film, set in France, with cats. Plus, there's always anime and shit like that
you forgot to add at the end of the original little mermaid how because she loved him she was given a second chance as a Wind Spirit and helped others to fall in love
How about the original Hanzel and Gretel where they eat and kill the witch, while at the same time their mother/stepmother dies which suggest the witch and their mother/stepmother were the same person in the end.
Goodness, damn. I was well aware that Disney basically softened so much of these tales (although that still didn't stop us from seeing a stabbing in Beauty and the Beast or in Enchanted) but is there no such thing as a Brothers Grimm Tale that doesn't end with something horribly fucked up?
Am i the only one that noticed that the song/tune between 6:00 and 8:00 is the same one that neebs uses?? Also the name of the track would be greatly appreciated......
The best-worst Grimm's story is The Owl. Here's how it goes: -owl flies into a barn to sleep -Owner of the barn finds the owl, has never seen one before and assumes it's a monster. -All the knights in the village show up with their finest weapons and practically piss themselves at how scary this thing they've never seen before supposedly is. -The Burgomaster (mayor-guy) says, "Hey, let's just burn down the barn and we'll pay you for all the hay you lost." -The story concludes with the line, "...and the owl was burned miserably." what-the-hell? What were we supposed to learn from all that? If something scares you, kill it with fire before finding out if it's actually worth being afraid of? It's probably more to do with not jumping to conclusions, but that could have been better posed if the villagers needed the owl for something later and bemoaned killing it.
You gotta remember though these stories were made up in a completely different time and have a different context than what we see today. Elements like death or violence were handled completely differently back then and folks didn't really sugar-coat anything for their kids.
When I was about 6, my dad said he would buy me a fairy tale book, so he went to the book store, and he did. Little did he know these were the Grimm fairy tales, and the back literally said NOT RECOMMENCED FOR KIDS. I read it anyway, and there were disturbing torture tales and horrifying scenes. I learned the truth behind all the Disney tales, and that really messed up my thoughts about Disney movies for life.
Slight correction on the Snow White is super young point, yes she was 7 at the start but she lived with the Dwarves for 7 years. Making her 14 when wooed by the Prince. Still super young, but not 7 years old. Thank god.
Honestly it's the funniest thing to me to picture the Poccahontis PR team floundering like "no we're not racist! Just ask our cast, like out leading man Mel Gibso-OH WAIT SHIT NO"
I'm German and I grew up with all those horrifying original Grimm versions. Makes sense most people think we have no sense of humor whatsoever.

*That Hunchback ending was beautiful*

~Cough~ the ending in Hunchback is one of the most beautiful and underrated endings in a Disney movie.

The Jungle book - Disney version: Mowgli instantly falls in love with the girl at the end and is lured into the village
Original version: Mowgli is not as easily welcomed by the villagers and banishes him back into the jungle and the ones who showed him kindness gets tortured, lovely.
+megaansem I am not german, but I was told those stories before bed too. I think they are awesome stories.
*mortal
+Marijke Wildermuth
ther are plenty of retelings of his story. the one i know gpoes kinda like this
as you sad the goddess Hera isn't Heracles's mother.
+Marijke Wildermuth
1) It's "disguised" not "disgusted".
Does anyone know where my childhood went?
I seem to have lost it while cutting myself to remember what feeling was like....
Disney didn't really lie... They transformed the most scary stories into a much friendly-ish(Pinocchio still scared me though) stories, which was pretty genius of them. And it wouldn't really ruin any of your childhood unless you were told or researched the originals.
As I'm grown up in Germany I've known these original stories since I was a child :'D anyone else?
I already knew most of this but could not resist. Well put and entertaining video!
+Lucrece von Kasm "Sleeping Beauty" killed me, I'm still laughing. XD
The comments are all "I'm from [insert country] and I grew up reading the Grimm version". whaaat? I'm American, so did we just grow up sheltered or something because some of these I have never heard before and they are horrifing!
same!!! people are saying they’re from sweden or something and they grew up with these...
disney never did me dirty like that
I remember how shocked I was when I read the original version of Grimms fairy tales ten years ago. there is no happily ever after in Grimms fairy tales...
Wrestling doesn't sound so bad now. Lol
I learned about the original version of The Little Mermaid the fun way. My mother, unaware of the original ending, bought the picture book of what was apparently the original at a book fair and asked me to read it to my little sister for her bedtime, which I did. We were laughing by the end.
"The hunchback of Notre Dame is based on a French book." "One of the main characters dies in a sad way at the end."
Why did you feel you needed to say the same thing twice?
I LOVE HOW YOU MADE THIS THE RANDOM PICTURES THAT MAKE SENSE THE PUNS PLEASE KEEP THAT STYLE ITS HILARIOUS XD
Pinocchio always scared me..... couldn't they at least make that fat man less scary and the donkeys less scary....
have you seen the live action one with udo kier? that scared the shit out of me, when i was a kid. or even worse, the sequel...
daggettooo OMG how old we're u!
I think I was about 7 back then :D
but the little mermaid turned into a weird air spirit so she could have the eternal soul she wanted in exchange for a hundred years of good actions.... so it's not that bad
there are many versions so you might be thinking of a different one
I didn't watch Disney movies until I was about 9 or 10, so these "horrible" versions are exactly what I grew up with. I always thought that it was a good thing because they're all meant to be moral stories about the fickleness of love and greed. Right?
Btw sorry for my English, it's my fourth language
I believe Rupert Thorne put it best by saying, "The brighter the picture, the darker the negative."
Into the Woods adapts the Brothers Grimm version of Cinderella
man, you missed a chance with Hercules
KobiCool His story is allllll kinds of messed up....there would need to be a list completely devoted to those differences. :)
KobiCool what's it about?
Marcos Moreno lets see, Hercules's father, zeus raped his mother and that's how he was born, he drove mad and killled his children after he was given a poison cloth and poked his own eyes out
Wow, never heard of that one but ok! :)
He also killed one of his friends and mentors (accidentally) and had to do I believe 2 or 3 more trails then he was told originally to repent cause some "didn't count" I think......I could be horribly wrong. :)
"Get it 'cause he's ugly" I DIED OMFG NEW SUBSCRIBER
Well.......disney just wanted to turn those pure evil stories into something pure good. In other words, disney just wanted to make everything better for everyone you know. So do you understand what i'm talking about here?
+Rose Angel What? What do you mean by that? ',:-/ ',:-^ ):-(
+Rose Angel I've been seeing your comments everywhere... seriously.. how old are you? Ever heard of research? try to research the origin of where all the disney movies comes from. What book they are based on. It's not that hard to google it right?
Rose Angel common sense and ignorance are two different things... whatever floats your boat I guess...
This is my favorite Whatculture video
I...actually do not remember that bit in any of the darker Little Mermaid versions I've read. Don't know where you read that.
In the original written by Hans Christian Andersen. Check it out: www.gutenberg.org/files/32572/32572-h/32572-h.htm#Page_124
I discovered in a conversation about this that a friend of mine had the same problem.
Yeah but imagine how many babies are born each day, I get why he did that but when you think about it that's horrifying
The Fox & the Hound, one of my favorite Disney movies, also has a dark real ending. Fox gets killed, even after saving the hunter's life, and hound gets killed by its owner, because he gets old, and can't live, like he used to...
MY WHOLE LIFE IS A LIE XD
H
you're preachin to the choir, that's some dark shit
Me too don't worry I'm here.............
I really love the dark versions of these fairy tales. I always felt something off with all those happy endings O:3
you forgot about the story of vince mcmahon where he took the loves of his life roman and cena in his pool at greenwitch and had a lovely foursone with the wwe belt
Your voice is so soothing ❤
I have to say, that original Little Mermaid plot would have been far more powerful as a film, compared to the Disney version. Pity they wanted to whitewash such a emotionally charged ending.
Well Universal's is supposed to be
And I LIKE BOTH ENDINGS
I just saw it and they did make a live action film inspired by the original creepy version of the little mermaid it was so sad 😥
well tuff shit
I've laughed so hard from this video that my sides have slplit, I nearly died, and peed myself! Well done!
I think the original version should be made.
i agree
Dean KC yeeessss
Ahhh... all of my favorite movies and childhood memories crushed to dust...
5:35 Nice Roman Reigns impression.
Which site did you read the comic on 4:36 ?
lie to me... lie to me... please, Disney
Wow.... I guess that means Kingdom Hearts is the darkest game I've ever played.
Adam, never stop being sarcastic, I love it.
XD
Brilliant. Proper made me chuckle this did
😂
What's left from my Fucking childhood is this:
Batman:The Animated Series
Justice League :The Animated Series
Dragon Ball Z
Alladin
The Jungle Book
Super Mario Bros. Cartoon
and Batman Begins
😢😭😢😭
all I remember is my dad watching porn
Disney is essentially Whatculture Brother's grimm "They did this story...but I can do it better because I'm a smart ass." *ding*
adam for president of the world
7:03 lol, oh adam, we love your WWE refrences lol
I grew up with all the originals. They are much better stories than Disney's "Life is always happy because reasons" stuff anyways.
Possibly one of my favourite vidoes. I personally love reading the original disney stories. They're so unbelievably brutal.
I'm a girl and I hate all the singing in Disney movies, I'd much rather prefer the grimmer versions
also "welcome ti Disney where all your dreams are fake"
fam,,,,,,,,, Disney is for little kids, girls mostly, so obviously they're not just going to suddenly include a woman being raped, suicide, mutilation, etc etc. Plus, there's always anime and shit like that
deep sigh black cauldron my little sister HATED that movie
edgyyyyyy
we didnt need to know you were a girl though
"Here is a picture of a 7-year old child"- proceeds to show picture of Honey Boo-Boo. NOT the best representation, guys! lol
you forgot to add at the end of the original little mermaid how because she loved him she was given a second chance as a Wind Spirit and helped others to fall in love
i screamed when bastille popped up thank u that has made my day :-))))
6:54 Who's the one person in the world anyone can have their way with?
Sleeping Beauty
How come only today I have found out about this amazing channel?
So glad you included some lore about Pinocchio. seriously that movie messed me up as a kid.
I newly discovered you. I fucking love your comments and you keep the topic interesting. Subscribed!
A lot of us already knew all that stuff, but thanks for the refresher course!
this vid is so scary! but adam just makes it funny XD
Our school play was Pinocchio and the directors told us all about the original book. It also involved dead girls.
The best-worst Grimm's story is The Owl. Here's how it goes:
-owl flies into a barn to sleep
-Owner of the barn finds the owl, has never seen one before and assumes it's a monster.
-All the knights in the village show up with their finest weapons and practically piss themselves at how scary this thing they've never seen before supposedly is.
-The Burgomaster (mayor-guy) says, "Hey, let's just burn down the barn and we'll pay you for all the hay you lost."
-The story concludes with the line, "...and the owl was burned miserably."
what-the-hell?
You missed the Peter pan story, after I found out the more gruesome I was afraid of Peter pan
Yes! Adam doing a video on Disney
"*The ugly truth behind the hunchback of Norte Dame* get it? Cause he's ugly" I'm fucking crying
You missed an obvious setup to use Mel Brooks' "it's good to be the king" during the Sleeping Beauty bit.
