- Filmed over 7 months, Prison tells the human story on both sides of the door: staff and prisoners, and the real issues facing them all. This episode focuses on the increasing violence staff and prisoners face on a daily basis, and the prisoners' who desire to change their way of life and look for a new start once they leave the prison.
Capturing first-hand the escalating drug problem, the scale of violence that frontline staff and prisoners endure daily and the multiple challenges of dealing with those suffering from mental health issues, the series reflects the national issues currently facing the prison service.

"No one tells me what to do. I'm my own person". Lol. Time to lock down for the evening and we'll let you out for breakfast if you behave yourself.
Lol,…. But I thought he was his own man!😂 what an idiot.
31:33 then he's crying like a baby 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
It's wild because, even at their worst, prisons in the UK just don't even come close to the US.
White British people are a lot more tame then black Americans that make up the majority of the us prison system that’s probably why
Its basically grown men with the mentality of 14yr olds! Troi is acting like one for sure, but actually shows improvement in the end!
general rule: the first age at which you come into contact with the justice system is the mental age at which you remain for decades to come
Really??
I can't tell because they Only use subtitles a 10th of the time.
It does seem interesting, though.
But it's like watching foreign language TV - it makes little sense to me.
@@merkins87
Yes, and that is a universal constant.👍
Alot mental health/ trauma problems that need attention too 😕
They all act like that when it’s time for them to go home… you can tell by his attitude when he was waiting to be released he hasn’t changed yet… as a prison officer here in the US you start to learn when they really change and when they haven’t
It is just me or did that guys smell the sneakers again when the camera crew was walking away😂
Yeah did you notice when he smelled them a piece of the white soap got stuck on his beard 😆
Reminds me of that Adam Sandler movie Mr Deeds. The butler that likes feet.
Tommy Calder is TERRIFIED. That’s why he came in barking like a chihuahua, then did whatever he knew would get him off the block (wing).
Prison is an adult daycare.
Cue the “Peaky Blinder” music. Lololol
All a bunch of silly little boys
Always amusing when crims talk about being "disrespected". Get used to it. Want respect? Treat other citizens with respect and you might earn some for yourself.
Love these docs
Write a letter to yourself when you were ten years old? Why not just say write a letter to yourself now.
Mentally they are ten, with the way they carry on throwing their tantrums.
Well they act like they are 10 now usually because of unmeet needs and trauma when they actually were 10 - development issues, lack of self regulation, unprocessed trauma etc so that is why the question is phrased that way. Heal the past to help the future.
I really feel like Troy has a good chance of turning his life around, becoming successful, & being a mentor to kids that are headed down the path you went. You have a lot of people in the comments who’ve never met you, but we see the good in you & believe you can turn your life around & be a positive role model & success.
I believe it is very possible for him to achieve all those things, however, he really truly needs to grow up first, because he is just acting like a child, and when things don’t go his way he throws an adult size temper tantrum, which is not good for anybody!
Can you imagine your life being so empty that not being able to have a cup of tea is a BIG deal???
Don't have to imagine. 🪒 Razors, lotion, nail clippers, headache medicine, bras and underwear, hair pins, long pencils...😮💨 It can get CRAZY when you can't put 🧴 lotion on your ashy heels or clip a hangnail. I was down bad.
Try a psych unit aswell. Cup of tea/coffee is legit life saving there too.
People have flipped tables when there’s no coffee or milk.
@@thehappymedium01 👀 DANG 👀 And I thought it was dangerous when there was no cream or sugar or the coffee was too weak at the place I did rehab.
Yeah
I work in a prison and these guys are PETTY. Every little thing can set them off
One of the absolute BEST prison docs I've ever seen !! Well done. Happy for Troi. I hope he made it on the outside !
💯!
Wtf!? Is this the first one you've ever seen?
Screws are too soft on the inmate’s.The animals are in control of the zoo.

@@Jackalope-ih2cs lol bro 😂I am not a criminal I work for a living not some little man trying to be tough like these inmates.

Naaa just a total lack of self control 😂
Their mummies would be so proud.
Dude, show that much desire to stay out of prison and you can have all the showers, tea and phones calls that you want, whenever you want!
😁
I swead this was an episode of top boy. Troy helping his celly when john shaping up to fight. And john making sure he said he started it because the camera was on him 😂
Lowest security prison surely, I’ve seen so many items you could never have in Australia.
Pool cue … wow
Tin and tin opener … double wow
I couldn’t believe it lol dude gets done with a knife and gets put in the cell for a night and back into the unit
Australia is Outstanding!!❤❤❤❤❤
Mate we have all that in Australian prisons 😂
@@jasonthomas4973 not in high security , maybe if ur a medium or low security head
Australia is a nanny state 😂
These docs are great, much better than all the American ones
One thing i know for sure, i'd rather be in an English prison than an American one.
But maybe that's because i'm British and would actually know (in theory) how to relate to the blokes in an English prison
I don't want to ever find out! Best never to go to prison!
Let’s get it straight limey nothing in this world that is British is better than American
@@billyhigh4690 _I don't know what century your from. But I'm Canadian and most European Countries I've travel too have a much better healthcare system. quality of living and education then we have. Thats why we're so unhealthy, obese and sound so ignorant and uneducated. I also like Europeans more then us. They are generally more caring and laid back. While we tend to be more Obnoxious, Opinionated, Rude and have this Nationalist superiority complex like we are the centre of the world._
Well. The rock bands. And healthcare for starters.
Hey Bubba did you know that 120,000 men women and children are shot every year in the U.S.A , Britian less than 200 people shot every year ....!!!!!!! @@billyhigh4690
@@billyhigh4690not true. However i do respect your opinion and i am loving America a lot. Nothing beats the red, White and blue and i am from Europe. But as for a prison i would better want to end up in an european prison, that is for sure. Also the healthcare system is better over here, since you do not need insurance or pay a million dollars to get help. It is free.
Id you want better help than the free healthcare system we also have private hospitals where you pay if you want that.
great doco, was invested in troi by the the end
That was good i could watch that like a series. Episodes
Jon knew he wasn't bout to say anything to get him hurt in other jails once this got out
Thank you for the upload
It doesn’t matter how tuff the dude is, if he’s got a British accent he sounds funny to me 😅
good doc thoroughly enjoyed it good luck to troy
40:20 Troy fought along the side of his cellmate like a true 🪖. Real one 💯 Respect from the US. Los Angeles, California. 🔵SUR13
That's what I was thinking. No matter how good you trying to be there are some things that don't fly.
i was thinking the same thing homie. i felt bad for him cause he had a chance to clean himself up, But when men form bonds we go to war for each other real talk.
So funny when they list off their crimes and convictions like it’s an achievement, they say it with such confidence like I’m not sitting in my bed watching youtube with a slice of pizza and a beer and can walk wherever I wish 😂😂😂
Great documentary.
Troy risked his parole to help that dude
13:05... "Been here a week with no proper tea." and dude was actually angry.. 😂😂 the Brits and they're tea, hilarious😂😂
Tommy done himself a mischief guvnor.
Tommy has learning difficulties I think.
Tommy definitely has mental problems, learning difficulties is just one of a myriad of psychological problems he has. Tommy should be in a high security mental prison hospital for the criminally insane. Tommy should never be released. He is a potential serial killer.
idk the lad but i feel proud of Troi, praying he stays safe and manages to find his way!
big up troi, god bless you
Great pointers I never would have considered. I have been a pack slave for the past 3 months. I just recently went out to buy the single I was hunting for. Less stress on the mind and more money in my pocket.
Good documentary
Tommy said he might be bipolar and he is probably right. HMP Durham needs to focus on their prisoners mental health. The amount of suicides there is horrible
I think Tommy's an "interesting" case, I feel he is very lost and he thinks he wants to be/ is the top dog. You can see that every time someone's mocking him or calling him out, he is very insecure and he doesn't know how to take it, so he does what he knows, he barks harder.
The only reason why he told the officers about the knife was cause he wanted that attention, he wanted to be taken away from the wing cause deep down he was scared. I am convinced the reason he is in a single cell is as much for his own protection as for others.
Pourquoi n'est-il pas sous traitement ? Je me pose cette question...
Troy keep it up you know ur not an angel but always be better than the day before👍
Theres no cure for beeing bipolar he has no control over his own beahviour.
He can control being bipolar. My sister and daughter both do with very low dose medicines and diet.
@@michelef88063 😂😂😂 Keep telling yourself that
@@warwarneverchanges4937 It is controllable with diet and medicines. It doesn't matter if you believe it or not I will continue to believe it since it has been working in my family for over 30 years.
The fact that they have to use captions when certain people talk is wildly hilarious.
34:30 I delivered a strike but it was towards his shoulders!!😅
Ive been in and oit the system and troy got to me. This lad has a heart scared to show it, he deaerves so much love. I wish him the very best❤

"It's been a long Day, I want a Cup of F-cking Tea...!". !?
A "long Day" for a real Man, a real staunch Man, is providing for his Family, putting his own "wants and needs" aside and stepping up to face hardships with resolve and a commitment to be and do the best he can, for them.
Thet need to forget to open Tommy's cell for a few days. LOL tough guy Tommy is crying calling the cops bullies LOL.
Good luck out there my bro, be 😎
Try doing your bird in Cambodia or Venezuela. Most of this lot wouldn't get through the first day. Props to Troy though, he learned to survive from an early age in an environment that required it. Changing to survive in an environment that doesn't will be near impossible - but it can be done.
"Did you feel threatened", I'd feel threatened just walking into the flipping prison let alone someones cell.
Troy’s facial expression looked like he getting ready to rob a ASDA the moment he gets out just so he can get back in
💯Had to turn on the subtitles for this one.🤣
U.S. prisons used to have one man over each pod who was in control. He was called a “tender”.In Texas there was a lawsuit concerning inmates rights, and prison conditions filed back in the 80’s.They had things improve, but the guards conditions did not improve.
Did that guy in the blue n yellow shirt just stash a shank 😂during the police breaking up fight
Their prisons aren’t like the state prisons in the USA. They seem more like how our prisons were back in the 50’s.
The British really have great camaraderie between work mates. You could see the mateship between the guards. The mentor was an inspiration. And I hope Troy can turn his life 180😊
Just want a cup of tea. mate? haha 🤣
This tough guy is a cry baby.. u kno who I'm talking about

21:57 I can tell that this prison is one of the older ones. They are made differently now, or at least in the U.S. if anyone is interested in a book about prison life back around the 1950’s there’s a short book called “Monkey off my Back”, by Jack Brown. I think it’s only sold in paper back.

Dog's bark when scared!
43:11 Thomas and Officer Brown 😂... They both have a point to prove... They are now buddies for life 🎉
That guard was lying through his teeth. But I guess I get it. Dealing with these nut jobs
I pray this Troy really changes his life. And I think he still has a lot growing up to do. He’s a good dude. But still towards last day. You can see he’s not finished growing. Because stuff not going his way. He starts to freak out and lose it. That’s a huge big red flag. Has learn not everything in life is perfect. Goes way you want it. Just wish guy the Best.
This is not a prison. This is a joke.
i would love to hear from Troy, did he end up back in
Why would they move a prisoner back to the jail they came from to most likely fail? They are essentially setting him up for failure. I don't understand that?
They need to deal with the anger issues omg
I simply don't understand the "all out at the same time" regime, causing all this ruckus... there are aprox. 180 inmates on a wing, right? They all have 2 hours of "open door" time (excluding the lads that have jobs and such). Leave 30 out every 2 hours and in 12 hours the open door time is sorted....
-edit- or do a sort of exchange program and for 2 week allow a team of Russian "Incarceration Experts" Penal Colony No. 6 to work there. ...:P
Aw man. Troy just screwed himself. He said “any act of violence, and I’ll be in prison the rest of my life “.
Gis a cuppa tea or am gonna kick off. I've had a long day, dear. What what old chap.
They get to choose what they have for lunch. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lunch and dinner
I bet alot of them take a good long portion of sausage every night, mm. They always like that and claim it's only because they are in prison but secretly that is why they reoffend🤣
8:22 A perfect example of a man child if I ever saw one!
In the U.S., there are no televisions in rooms...there are no cigarettes and the inmates all wear uniforms.
Seems as if Troi didn't learn his lesson. Brown, who also pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm when prohibited, was jailed for a total of six years when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday, March 16 2023.
At least they have dedicated staff who are actually friendly with yhe inmates, Fl, Alabama, Georgia prisons ppl are dying, not bc of fights but staff are shown to be asleep and every single person in these states prisons has a 5g smart phone. The guy who is trying to show how bad the Alabama prison system from the inside is trying to change that by showing the appalling conditions. He is an inmate but he has humanity, he gets punished for showing the conditions which is wrong. So many ppl he interviews need to be in an ouside hospital. Northern england is just a rough area and yet they have a friendly rapport with the officers and Troi who came in angry at the world I think made a change based on those classes and his routine.
Cup of or tea or what..😂
Troy is a good person. Just believe in yourself bro and it will be ok
None of these dudes would make it in American prison..
Maybe, maybe not. But i think system would adopt it so people can adopt the system of other countries prison.. i would say that American people would not make in Albanian prison, it have bin from north Europian and other part people in Albanian prison they got raped and beated all the day and hulimiated in worst ways, if they make out i know friends of friends who have bin i bad trauma and then do suicide..
Albania is smale country but have much worst people than Americans have in there prison
Tommy's weak and is going to get eaten if he keeps up the tough guy charade.
Scared to get a swab put on an eye cut because It's going to sting says it all
Wow tough guy 😂
SO PEOPLE JUST LOVE THAT BOOTY HOUSE AKA PRISON
10:17, old mate had a shiv in right hand?
I hope Troy doesn’t end up violating probation he’s a good dude
Me to. Hes so full of hope and hurt. But he has it in him to do good. I wanna see more of his life. I wish the cameras would follow him outside so i can see hes okay. My heart just throbs for certain people. Troy 100%. If you reading this troy...dont let a temporary feeling of anger or sadness be your future behind bars again. Find yoirself a good women have kids and a wofe...it would suit yah lad. Much ❤ bro. And yes im a female and understand your heart better then the people in that prison.

Wow 🇨🇦
I like the chef...he haa proper pride in his job
Its such a sad thing that prisons exist, but they are necessary. I was glad to see that young man turned his life around enough to get out. I just hope he stays out of trouble. Look at how much freedom you lose being in prison. SO sad
I believe in second chances, and I hope Troy makes the most of his.
Tommy wouldn’t make it in American jail or prison they’d push him out the pod so fast
No/one here would survive American prisons
That's cause you have to join a gang or keep your head down in US jail.
His tough guy act moor see through ,than my freshly cleaned window
