Luke Martin thanks for coming and tasting the traditional cuisine of my village, may it be a blessing for your family. and always come and taste again when you're in Jogja.🙏🏼
Loved the video. I've been visiting Yogya regularly since I was a teenager. We used to go on study trips to Indonesia while at High School. Yogya is my favourite city in Java. I hope you're both safe and well and managed to see Borobudur and Prambanan.
You're my favorite food traveller Cendol is made from arrowroot flour Dawet is made from rice flour Also check out the latin name of blue pea flower The salad is called "urap" if eaten with shaven coconut, or can called "pecel" if eaten with aromatic peanut sauce Rambut means hair in malay/indonesia, so rambutan means hairy fruit Papaya leaves and flowers are bit sour but very healthy
Dawet is the beverage name, and cendol is the tiny bits name based on Javanese word "jendol" which means bumps since it shapes like bumps, hence the complete name is "cendol dawet".
The kitchen, the food, the ambiance, the picking rambutan from its tree:) really remind me of my grandmothers and school holidays:) Thank you for the homesick remedy video. I appreciate it so much!
For the Javanese, "dawet" is the name of drink while "cendol" only refers to the worm-like jellies. We Indonesians don't call palm sugar "gula melaka" that's what the Malaysians call it. It's "gula aren" or "gula jawa" for us. BTW, this is not my first time watching your video but I'm still amazed at how you guys are so game with trying everything. I'm Indonesian myself but to be honest the cuisine of Yogyakarta and Central Java is not my favorite as it is more on the sweet side. The Javanese also prefer simple, rustic herbs while where I'm from we're more liberal with our spices. But the Javanese there have got to be some of the friendliest, most gracious people on this planet that Yogyakarta remains a special place for most Indonesians like me. Thank you for taking me back to Yogyakarta! Terima kasih, or as they say it in Javanese, ꦩꦠꦸꦂꦤꦸꦮꦸꦤ꧀ (matur nuwun) 🙏
Im also fan of indonesian food..really tasty, lot of herbs, sweet&spicy perfect combination..and also Sambal😍😍 My co workers before used to cook everyday thats why until now I remember those food
Sabrina's take on sambal explains pretty much why we Indonesians love our sambals. They just spice up our dishes and make us eat so much more haha! Sambal is especially the best company when we eat sweet food like tempe and tofu bacem you have here and petai or any other kind of lalapan (mere vegetables eaten raw, steamed or boiled as a side dish). All you eat in this episode are healthy and homey dishes. And the setting of Yogyakarta's green neighborhood is just beautiful! As a Jakarta citizen living overseas now, I so miss the humble and natural atmosphere of Yogyakarta. So, thank you so much for sharing this heartwarming video, Luke and Sabrina!
We can't have it all but we certainly can see it all. Thanks for bringing all these wonderful places and the food on RUclips. I love to see all the different food. God bless you both. Keep safe.
Wow, that's really awesome video. An authentic Indonesian feast indeed. I really love the way you blend in with the locals... Keep up the good work! And stay safe and healthy Like!
@Luke Martin Petai is found in almost all SEA countries. We Thai call it Setor. Best to be taken raw or half grilled with sambal or our Thai Nam phrik koong or of the sort. It is a great remedy for lowering blood pressure and a natural detox agent. Also, the banana you had was primitive. Therefore, it came with seeds. What we get from the supermarket are those genetically modified ones. I personally don't consume those in mass production. You are what you eat! Love your exploring villages in Indonesia. Keep it up!

Nope, itu bukan pisang batu/kluthuk. Itu pisang kepok/sobokentang. Sometimes there are the seeds. But it's suitable for fried bananas, nagasari, steamed bananas, toast bananas etc
Luke I must tell you, that some locals in your video speak using a specific javanese which is called “Bahasa Krama”. Yogyakarta has a very rich culture, and people there tend to protect and embrace their local wisdoms. That bahasa krama is only used in a specific situation such as when we speak to an elder person, honorable one and so on.

You made my day more happier with this video. I miss jogja. But during pandemic, this video make little heal my feeling
25:13 thats how everyone's reaction first time eating pisang batu
hahah!
LoL😂
Nope, itu bukan pisang batu/kluthuk. Itu pisang kepok/sobokentang. Sometimes there are the seeds. But it's suitable for fried bananas, nagasari, steamed bananas, toast bananas etc
Kulutuk banana
The banana is one of two bananas that people who has diabetic allowed to eat
I'm late seeing this..but iam happy you enjoy jogjakarta...
Cool!
love it, your vlog is very different, come picking vegetables and fruits typical of Indonesia in the garden until it is cooked and eaten, once again I say LOVE it.
So lucky you are Luke, fresh ingredients picked straight from garden. So amazing and delicious. Yummy and healthy😍😍😍
As an Java's people, we are so honor to you Luke, you just explore very rare traditional Indonesian Java's cuisine,

You got a good guide there, Arie, finding locals to cook from scratch and ate the cuisine rightaway fresh off the kitchen.

Awesome look person speak Java languange... Thx man you explore Indonesia with awesome video.
So beautiful, I love when the lady is cooking. Simple and happy living ❤️
Actually when in indonesia, we call palm sugar "gula jawa" not "gula melaka" .. just to inform you.. 😄
Malaysian language
Gula malaka is from malaysa langue,,,
Gula merah lebih umum dibanding gula melaka
Bukannya gula aren ya?
Di Indonesia ngga semua sebut gula jawa, kami di Sumatera sebut Gula Merah
Jogja .memang istimewa gw terharu dengan sopan santun nya attitude orang2 nya luar biasa no 1

Village life is much better than city life. I am from Dhaka and for me this village is like heaven. Love from Bangladesh.
Good stuff as always, Luke & Sabrina! I'm living my culinary adventures through you two! You've experienced most of my favorite types of cuisine that I have not been able to experience for myself in their native regions. Keep up the great adventures and content! Stay healthy and well! If you ever take a wrong turn and end up in Utah for whatever reason, lemme know! I'll whip up some potstickers and curry chicken soup or something for you! :)
Haha thanks so much:)
Thank you for showing and appreciate javanesse food to the world through your vlog. First time watch your vlog and made me smile amid the lockdown stay safe everyone. Matursuwun mas Luke 🙏
Seeing that blue rice made of think of the nasi kerabu we ate for lunch!
Nice! Love Nasi Kerabu!
The blue colour from the essence of telang flower...
That braised tofu and tempe with the melinjo leaf and pumpkin soup is pretty much relatable to central javanese and jogjan people. I think I could live only eating it for my whole life.
