To be fair to the Schliefen in the beginning: using your hydro at that point is a waste 99% of the time. It is very unlikely to encounter torps in that position.
I disagree with calling the Schlieffen out in the early game. Yes he ran into torps and he has hydro but the problem is that you either activate your hydro early and have it on cooldown when you need it 3 minutes later most OR you don't turn it on when you have no reasonable reason to turn it on and eat random Yueyang torps like he did.
Schlieffen HP pol is bad, its armor is bad. If it pushes early, it dies early. Is it not the torps, it's the focus by enemy ships. 2 enemy ships can melt the Schlieffen in no time.
Rule of thumb I have for most my brawlers is that if I'm spotted and I can't see what's spotting me, it's going to be either a submarine or a DD or maybe even a cruiser that operates like a DD. Either way, I'm spotted and they're not = put Hydro on. Chances are, torpedoes are already headed my way and if they're not, they're going to be during hydro's duration. If they're firing off torps and they're still not visible, pray to God the team's CV could take a hint and try spotting for the DD.
I like how he chatted out "300K" when he had 273K. Although the first Schlieffen was understandably holding his hydro the real lesson, for all these BB victims, is always vary your speed and course if there's a chance of Asashios, Yueyangs, Shimis, etc nearby.
I was actually scolded by teammates for doing exactly what you're suggesting. "What're you using your hydro for?" Because I'm detected and I dunno why... could be a destroyer. "No no no. You should only ever use your hydro when there's smoke nearby".
I would like to see a few things added to torpedoes. 1. They should have safeties, meaning there is a minimum distance. The idea of someone tossing torps in the water to a ship so close you can shout at them is not exactly correct. 2. Torpedoes should have a 1 in a 1000 chance of circling back and sinking you.
Some more clarification. Safeties should be automatic but you can undo the safety. There is a price to pay for firing point blank, the explosions also damage your ship. Circling should only be possible when safeties are turned off THOUGH even with them you get the effect but no explosion which could be called "manufacturing error".
Here's the thing a lot of Hydro players think they are popping to early, granted in shiff's situation he IF He was paying any attention saw that buff he took so he should've popped it and probably turned away as to charge would over extend him to massive fire. Now I have the Advanced (COAL) Hydro on all of my ships that carry it, but it still sucks to be on cooldown in some situations that tend to arise
Wrong to callout the Schlieffen, hydro is not on permanently and it was early in the game. I see too many players hit their hydro way too early when most DD's and cruisers haven't even the ability to load their torps.
Interesting analyisis. But, as a german BB enthusiast i'd like to give my conception. Firstly the Schliefen, yes I have hydro, but why should I use it back there? I'm in my (supposely) safe back and don't want to have it on reload, when I want to push. So it hits kinda unexpected and getting a double Salvo is very bad for your health. Knowing that Yueyang is capable of doing that, I doubt that every player knows that. I can't remember seeing a Yueyang in any of my last battles. Yes the Rupprecht played stupid, why drive broadside into the cap? Even with Hydro thats stupid. Head on is the way to go. It is even harder to time your Hydro right, when there are Uboote in game, but that doesnt matter here. All in All, a entertaining video, nice to see different perspectives and how dangerous some players in certain boats are.
The Schlieffen should have seen the middle buff be taken by the enemy DD and known that one was close, meaning it’s time to either pop hydro or stop sailing in a straight line
Hmm, you've got a point there. Course and spped change would have been a gutes Manöver, (as I don't have the english word right now) to avoid so many torps. Either way, he would have got one or two., even with hydro actived then. As they were beautifully spread out.
Oh shit it’s me, I’m a dd main, finally decided to share one of my games and it’s here. Woohoo I’m so happy, from such a small country of Lithuania to share with you this game (sorry about that 300k message, thought it will be more hits later)🎉🎉🎉 P.S. And yeah I play on ultra wide monitor, so the zooming a bit strange in this replay😀
Ok would this be the age old, split your task force, isolate and then fail to raise any support from the admiralty and then be damaged by air power and picked off by superior numbers whilst unable to maneuver?
Got a question I’m real close to having enough coal to get either the yoshino or the GKF which one should I get? sea lord Mountbatten I require your guidance
Can't speak for what to expect with the Yoshino, but from my experience with playing Randoms with a Secondary build GK daily, I'd say GK's only really good if you know when and how to push, correct angling, and DCP/Repair management. You really can't rely on her main guns all that much since she's a spray-and-pray until you get into the magic range of about 14-16 km where your shots group kinda well for what you'd expect from 12 420mm guns. Most of the times, you'd only be using 6 of them since you really want to take advantage of her armor more than you do of her guns. Expect to be targeted by most of the enemy team. I swear the enemy will ignore a Des Moines or Petropavlovsk if they see you at 75% health. Just keep on angling as much as you can, whether in retreat or in a push. Don't mind getting bombarded unless it's a Yamato or anything similar. You will inevitably get farmed. They will want that - they do not want you to be alive past twelve minutes. Take note of your team and where you spawn. If you're on a weak flank, stay back, hide behind an island and only shoot when the opportunity presents itself, usually in the form of an over-committing cruiser - you can citadel them fairly consistently if your main battery cooperates. Let them over-commit and let them come to you - chances are, they won't come at you all at the same time, giving you time to eliminate them one at a time if you're lucky. When on a strong flank, patrol towards escape routes and angles where the enemy team are not committing to. Be an opportunistic hunter, basically. If spawned in the middle, you get to pick which side to go towards, but it's never a bad idea to stay as far away from ships with 460mm or higher guns. You are a big target with a weak upper deck - if you get plunging fire from a Yamato, Musashi, or Shikishima, stay calm and reposition to get behind cover. You are a pushing ship but that's not the only thing you can do. You're more useful alive than dead. When going against aircraft, there's basically nothing you can do. GK's AA is not bad, but it's nothing to write home about. You will shine in the late game. If you can get to the late game with about 40-60% health, you've basically won the area. Unless there's a DD still hiding around, feel free to push. You've got turtleback armor, giving you a form of immunity to getting citadel'd. Chances are, you'll be left contending with 1-2 ships in the area and you are there either solo or with a near-death ally. You will win the exchange; You will blow up that Conqueror has been hiding since the start of the game and was farming you from 20km and now that you're both in 11km range, you can citadel her more than she can hurt you; you will get 100+ hits with your secondaries and start 3-4 fires while you are at it. As long as you get to the late game with decent health, you can win.

I agree, that was pretty suspicious. When it’s that early and you’re just barely out of spawn, I don’t like popping those consumables. I’m more bothered by the schlieffen sailing straight and broadside for so long in a match with fairly long ranged BBs opposing him

To be fair to the Schliefen in the beginning: using your hydro at that point is a waste 99% of the time. It is very unlikely to encounter torps in that position.
I have seen players used thier hrdyo and radar as soon as they spawn while the enemy team is on the other side of the map.
The man should have noticed the buff in the middle of the map disappear and either popped hydro or stopped sailing in a straight line
