This will go the exact same way as subs.
    - People will like it in the PVE mode.
    - WG will invest massive resources because "this is what players want" and will make it crayon-eaterproof.
    - Player will absolutely despise it because it doesn't fit the PVP gameplay and isn't fun to receive.
    - WG will shove in the game anyway because of sunken cost fallacy.

Have you played subs, in co-op?
They are terrible, in co-op. Worse, the enemy bot subs have much better games than the player subs. The problem is that enemy bots do not stay unsunk by your team mates long enough to do anything but shotgun an enemy that is presenting a bow-on profile, for very little damage, as you either fired at too short a range to do much damage, or the bot dodges your torpedoes.

@@richardbell7678 I'm talking about the PVE Halloween mode that took place years ago.

@@richardbell7678 Not meaning to offend, but my question is how much have you played subs in Coop?
I find them easy: single ping and all your torps hit at range. Every time. If you are getting too close trying to shotgun that is the issue - post nerf damage reduction killed shotgunning, so stay just outside of detection.
Sub vs sub is dead, but as any other ship bot subs are the easiest to kill. They never go below periscope depth.

@@xPureNRG007x I have only played 228 battles, in subs (out of 18339, in total). The biggest problem, in my experience, has been targets living long enough for the torpedoes to arrive. Other than sounding the klaxon by pressing "N", it is for me to have any fun, so I just don't bother. I get one torpedo strike in and my team has to have really sucked for there to be anything else surviving to shoot at.

Early antiship missiles were typically radar guided using the radar of the launching ship and a telemetry link to a modified gun fire control computer, although some (like the ones on the Smaland) had terminal radar homing guidance. I'm not sure how I'd implement that in game, but it definitely wouldn't be with a ping mechanic.
And the original means of countering them was lots and lots of radar controlled antiaircraft guns (Soviet quad 45mm or 57mm guns, for example, or various different 40mm mounts used by NATO nations, as well as heavier autocannons). Not CIWS or EW.

So a salvo of 4 should be no different than a drop from bombers carrying similar bombs. I think missiles could work, however, I don't think they should be like torpedoes. I think they would work well like the Dutch airstrikes. You select an area you want to hit, and instead of planes dropping bombs, you send missiles over. However, as a trade off, instead of the many lesser damage bombs the Dutch ships drop, these would have fewer missiles but more damage and pen.

The Iowa had harpoon missiles before it retired, and the Germans had functioning anti-ship missiles during WW2 (Fritz X & HS293, HS293D was even TV guided though it never really made it into testing phases, only planned to be TV guided) so it's not completely insane to have missiles considering we have homing torpedo. I've been looking forward to the release of Sea Power next month for the missiles but if Wargaming is bringing some out maybe I can enjoy them in both lol.. Hopefully they're not as arcadey as those 'photon torpedo' look atm though, if they're going to implement missiles into the game I'd prefer to have them done well.. The concept of air strikes is/has been a worrying development for me since the Dutch Cruisers were launched 😟

  • @meneldal
    @meneldal 6 дней назад

There's one thing that deserves mention that I noticed after playing those ops a fair bit. The railguns and missiles have one huge limitation: you need direct line of sight and even tiny islands will prevent you from getting a hit, and in the maps they were running you were often stuck unable to shoot anything other than secondaries because of that. So if they require a direct line of sight the same way, it will give a lot more defensive options than against planes who can always come around any island blocking the path.
Especially since you can't stealth missile from what have seen (and by a fair margin).
If they allow ships to stealth missiles though it will be a carnage.

    This was an
obvious next step. Its a warships game. They just happen to use WW2 ships as the main course since that was the swan song of the traditional line of battle for ships. It marked the start of the CV being the dominant force and battles no longer needing eyesight of a ship. But it’s inevitable that they want to get the more modern, post 1950, ships into the game. If world of tanks is any indication, there will be almost a separate game within the game for those ships. I see people freaking out about it but it changes nothing outside of how youll play. Depending on how they implement it. Alot of the late war ships in WOW lasted well into the 70’s. They were capable of fighting guided missile ships. A few of the iowas were given massive upgrades. They can fire tomahawks and have ciws. People forget this is a warships game. I continue to see people mad due to their flawed idea of what warship combat is. If im WOW, i want to find a way to get modern ships in before someone else makes a good competitor. IMO war thunder dropped the ball in this aspect.

It can’t possibly be worse than homing torpedoes or carriers. It would be interesting to get a Kynda-class cruiser for example, and hit a heavily armored cruiser or battleship with a missile. They’d be glass cannons because modern ships aren’t armored. They wouldn’t be able to hose them off like crazy. It’d end up being something with low refresh, constrained targeting protocols like requiring line of sight and a missile lock to use, and they’d be restricted to the high tiers where the 1950s ships are now meaning T8+. They’d end up having to add CIWS and countermeasures like chaff, and make them AA-targetable so you’d see T7-8 cruisers and battleships firing their AA suites at incoming missiles. Frankly I suspect it would end up looking something like the CVs in the end.

The best they can do that would be period accurate is planes with guided bombs and a converted German trawler with V-1 bombs to show what people can expect in the later tiers.
The V-1s would be very vulnerable to most conventional AA defenses and even be intercepted by fighters. And also, you couldn't switch targets midflight and guide them in so, best used against camping cruisers.
At top tier you could see planes with glide bombs. Allowing you to release your ordinance outside of AA range but with them being so slow you need to lead your target.
Point is, you're not gonna see modern missiles outside of this event. What you'll most likely see is the earlier weapons that would father the modern missile

could see it. Postwar, early cold war...

so good news, just as many of the ships weren't around for missiles, the missiles weren't designed to hit armored hulls as ships that had those were all retired or scrapped at that point. (save NJ)
so Armor would still be somewhat effective against these missiles as often they were delayed contact fuses, relying solely on the mass and speed of the missile to penetrate the hull, without any hardened penetrators on the missile.
unfortunately for cruisers, many of you don't have that needed armor. (german cruisers reverse powercreeped again!)

Honestly, if done well and with the purpose of fun in mind. I wouldn't mind if they went away from the current setup they have. Where they seem to want to do more arcade type of things. But seem confined to some weird sense of realisim. Again, if done well, I think having a system in place where you can spec into your ship would be cool. Like modifying the guns and so on.
Say they implement a system to replace the current module system. Just like commanders. Have some type of skill/perk system for a ship. Where you can choose to invest your points you earn into certain parts of a ship.

Plus if you want to meme and use secondaries like the german main you are, Bourgogne has a surprisingly substantial and long range secondary armament.

I play this game a lot because of the time frame. I would love to see the ship I served on be in the game, used to be DE but changed to FF. Kind of in between old and new. FF 1082 to be exact but it wouldn't be a reasonable fit. Make a mirror server that starts at the first missile ships and grows on up to more modern. You get to keep the old, introduce the new almost like a new game.

I've played the game for a long time. I took a several year break a while back, then came back for a bit, and have again been on a break from the game for a few months now. I am one of those people for whom missiles is a distinct line in the sand. If missiles are added and not given their own completely separate matchmaking away from artillery ships, I am gone for good. I do not want to see CWIS on historical WWII ships (that didn't get them, I know there are a few refits), I do not want to play a historical WWII era ship and have to simply hope I don't get nailed with 5 limbillion tomahawk missiles with no countermeasures to use.
If Wargaming is somehow seeing this, I guarantee you this is the consensus of like 80% of the player base, and certainly the player base that's been around as long as I have been. Take notes. If you're going to do this, don't screw it up.

If missiles were to come I'd imagine them to be a cross between the Dutch Cruiser's Airstrike combined with Sub Ping mechanics... basically Homing HE Torpedoes.. IF treated similar to planes in a certain way they could be "countered" with AA. BUT that potentially would Tax the DCP Consumable even greater; I would hope that an EW Consumable would come along that would break Sub Pings and Missile locks.
While it would break immersion of the WW2 Setting; it would likely break the player base. Unless they added like 5 tiers for Missile Ships in what would be in effect "World of Warships: Cold War" and redo how higher tier economics paid out.
Or if they really want to add Missile ships just remake the game within the game for the Cold War era from T1-10. Add an Immersion Mode for era compliance and have a Truly Random Battle Mode where it's straight Tier for Tier Arcade and the Consumables cross eras for "balance"

I think every DD should have a few intercontinental satellite guided nuclear missiles that will automatically seek and 1-shot the farthest away enemy CV. This missile should have a 100% success rate and not need the CV to be spotted to work. It should be ready to launch within 15 seconds of the start of the war. Then and only THEN will CVs experience what it is like to be a DD in a CV game.

My thoughts is that these ships should blast each other in space and not on the water like we normally do, if WG does implement these weaponry in the game. Or move the tiers up to XII or something, just like what gaijin did with war tandoor: modern MBTs fighting late ww2 to early cold war tanks would have been terrible for player retention since folks grinding on the older vehicles would have a grand old time fighting tonks with ERA, APS, darts, etc etc.

  • @gstormcz
    @gstormcz 9 дней назад

It could be fun with new weapons.
But I think it should be either temporary mode or some way split from historical ship. Even if it was new tiers.
But I don't think WoWs has so big playerbase to absorb more than current number of tiers.
You finally said already. It would be at least weird if Ww2 historical ships with their era armament had to face laser and guided missile ships is some distant future update.
But the Star Trek port was probably one of most eye catching and joyous new things in WoWs..

New camo with kaboom monochromatic explosion of ship sounds like another interesting stuff.

Side note yes ik WT doesn't have modern ships but they have modern tanks/planes, that's what I meant), but we all know WG's terrible balancing. Missiles implies CIWS but we know how shit AA is currently. What makes you guys think they'll make CIWS any different? Press a button, missiles fly away, no skill involved to adjust aim since missiles are guided, shoot and forget, while the enemy's CIWS barely shoots down 1-2 of them out of a barrage of 8-10 missiles.
Sincerely hope this never makes it to the live game...

I remember joking about missiles incoming a few years ago and here we are lol
I'm not against that concept in general, but it will be IMPOSSIBLE to balance guided missiles against the ships we have ingame right now
Naval warfare changed fundamentally between the 1940s and 1980s, today missiles are the main weapons of ships and CIWS is used for defense against it
A 1944 Missouri with its AA wouldn't stand a chance to intercept a missile or a jet aircraft...both technologies being standard by the 1980s
The only way I see what would work would be 2 separate matchmakings: a game mode or group of game modes where modern ships are matched against other modern ships and a group of "classic" modes where the ships we have right now are matched against each other
I think everything else would totally destroy balance even if they try to balance it somehow
