My UF1 was delivered today to run alongside my UC1. These controller videos have been a real help on deciding which way to go. Can't wait to start getting familiar with the whole SSL 360 set up and these controllers. 😎
Love your walk throughs - agree with you on the channel select not following, drives me crazy but seems to be a Mackie limitation. The only exception I've found for Cubase and Studio One is the no longer sold CC121, which will follow the channel select. Hoping UF1 will get this improvement soon.
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy I think you have to put the Console 1 plugin on every channel similar to the UC1 to get the tight integration, whereas with the CC121 no plug in is required. I think a solution would be the DAW maker including a built in script for the SSL controller series, which hopefully will be done as they are becoming very popular.
The FADER SELECT mode is used if you use the UF1 with the UF8 (i.e limited the the 8 Physical faders on the UF8). That is why you re limited to only 8 Tracks. However in CHANNEL MODE the UF1 is essentially following the DAW channels, in this case it goes beyond the 8 tracks. I believe that is what SSL Planners decided to implement..
While talking about controllers, I would personally LOVE to see a demo video from Home Recording Made Easy on the MP Midi Controller. I wonder how well it would work with the Softube system? Add the scribble strips you mentioned and the combination might be hard to beat?
I have reached out the the company several times about demoing their MP midi controller. They have no interest in working with me. They wanted me to pay full price for the unit, including the import fees from Hong-Kong etc. Oh well, their loss. Almost no one on YT does videos on their product. They are most by the company themselves. That tells you something. The product look amazing and seems to be a great product but no videos on RUclips???? That speaks volumes to me. Their loss!
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Thanks so much for your response. Agreed completely. It is difficult to find in-depth information about the product. It is very odd when a company that wishes to sell more product isn't willing to work with someone who can expose their product to 63k + potential buyers. You would think they would beat down your door. ?!? Yes. It looks amazing! Seeing and manipulating the actual graphic of the plugin, and switching between plugins are what most interests me. Like you had mentioned with the Softube unit, implementing the actual plugin graphic would be a tremendous improvement imho. Thanks again and keep up the amazing work!
When in Channel select mode you are moving the Channel encoder and walking through the channels on a "Bank Of 8" basis. This means the bank might reach the end of your list of channels and go no further. so in that situation to get the very last track in your mixer row to be controlled by the fader for example, you can select "Fader Mode" and use the Channel encoder to cycle through the channels within the 'Bank Of 8'. Personally I think this would have been best achieved by simply pressing the SHIFT key rather than clicking the channel encoder, scrolling across and then clicking again.....
Too much work! Make it work just like the Console 1 by Softube. If they can make it work properly then every controller can be made to work properly. That's my 2-cents :)
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Agree. For me personally it does not make any sense to have a DAW controller with faders if it does not follow. That's why i bought Softube Console 1 and Fader and absolutely love it :)
Great vid again Dave! Still waiting for mine to arrive, I have the UC1 that I use on every mix. I do love the SSL channel strips and 360 environment so hoping it will be good to have my left hand on UC1 and UF1 while my right hand uses mouse. Who knows, maybe my Icon Qcon pro X system will go by the wayside as it seems all the functions is right here in this unit.
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy I really only use the QCons faders and pan pots and to do my automation, I find all the other features I never really use. If I could go back in time I would have bought the UF8s instead.
I think there's some bizarre behaviour that isn't quite documented well enough around the channel / fader select. I created 8 faders +1 additional. Replicated your behaviour. It seems to act as an OFFSET. So for instance, in CHANNEL SELECT. If you move along to say "Fader ". That bank will contain everything from Fader 2 - 9 whilst in CHANNEL SELECT. Which means if you then switch to FADER SELECT, you can individually cycle them. So it would appear at least on my side, that CHANNEL SELECT really is "cycle between the banks of each 8 channels" then use FADER SELECT to select the individual fader in that bank for focus. It's really quite counter intuitive. Especially, as you can do the VERY SAME thing with the < > bank button.

Congrats! Have fun
That's awesome
through 20 minutes your UF1 display never changes.....Pretty amazing
Thanks for watching!
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy :)
Thanks Dave. I saw one on a great sale and just ordered it to go with my UC1.
Nice 👍
@07:54 not in Cubase. In cubase it works as you want it.... immediatly responds on the screen.
Good to know, thanks!
Good video. I respect your have-not-read-the-manual approach. It is still useful.
Glad it was helpful!

Maybe so but why does the Soft-Tube Console one channel select follow perfectly in Studio One? I did an entire series on the Console one last year

Thanks, Dave! If you could do a review of the UF1 with LUNA in the future that would be cool 😎
I'll put it on the list.

Could you include in a video if its possible to control 3rd party plugins using the UF1 please?
Sorry, UF1 is already been given away. It does not control 3rd party plugins
Great run through
Thank you very much!

Great vid Uncle Dave . Will there be Part 5 for tracking with Luna and UA plugins ?
Maybe at one point.
Can you set the 4 rotary encoders to control s1’s macro knobs?
I do not believe so

I think the SSL stuff is far better than the Q-Con products. At least the ones that I have tried

I am thinking about buying this unit but my desk space is at a premium and I got to be sure.
Its a big unit for sure. Go back and watch part 1 where I compare the physical size to a Presonus Faderport
Part 3 please..
coming soon.
