I hardly new anything about Uruguay and Montevideo. After watching this show I learnt so much and got the vibration of the place. Such kind and open people with sense of humor.
Thanks!! We'd love to have you--and any other Inner Circle member of course--come stay :) I went to Budapest in 2000 so I'm really looking forward to seeing your video!
Excelente video !!
Great video... it shows corners of Montevideo that most of us --Uruguayans-- don't know about. I guess the credit for the creative selection of places and things to do must go to Karen, but you seem to have fitted right in... Come back!!
Thanks, Susana. Matt has a curiosity that gives him an uncanny knack of really extracting the juice from any experience. It was amazing--and so much fun as you can tell--to spend time with him and his crew.
Wow! The best video I've ever watched about my city. An ode to the simple daily experiences that are so meaningful but we generally overlook. You need an attitude to be able to catch the soul of a culture, and you certainly have it. From now on I'll watch your videos before travelling abroad.
Another great episode, Matt!!! Way to put Montevideo on the map for all those travelers that like authentic, non-tourist destinations. So great for the neighbourhood and district........highlighting the offseason - what a great idea.
Thanks, Jan! And kudos to Matt for challenging me to invite the crew during our winter (July). Though tourism is Uruguay's second largest industry, traditionally Uruguay has relied on South American tourists mainly in our summer months (December-February), leaving a large sector of the population without work and businesses without customers for much of the year. Here at Guru'Guay (www.guruguay.com) we are working hard to make tourism a year round activity--showing what great stuff there is to do away from the beaches. But I have to confess that when Matt and crew arrived and it absolutely poured for FOUR DAYS straight. I-wanted-to-die. ;) But... what do I normally recommend on rainy days in Montevideo? #wine and #livemusic of course. And because it was July there was a BUNCH of both. You've seen the outcome for yourself :) Looking forward to your episode! LOVED the Bali one :)
@@GuruGuay You are doing a great job at giving the offseason the exposure it needs. We are seasonal as well and so completely understand how important it is to the community to thrive for 12 months of the year and not just 3 summer months. Jan Stevens (Bowen Island Accommodations)
The messaging included in this episode exudes so much positivity and the cinematography is fabulous. Karen’s guide book is brilliant, inspired by a host who clearly loves being a guide and knows how to be one. Meeting new friends and becoming comfortable in an intriguing new place is the best feeling. I could be in trouble already, I’m a pushover for adventures with elements of romance. My tango shoes are due for replacement and I think I’d dare bring new ones to Montevideo, anything could happen.
It sounds like you should get your new tango shoes in Montevideo! We are sure Guru'guay knows the right place to get them AND the perfect spot to use them right away. You would absolutely love the warmth of the people in Uruguay and won't stop smiling during your visit!
They are truly the best! And you as well! Now I definitely know where to go if I am in Uruguay :) And also I loved your "Guru'Guay" name so much haha @@GuruGuay
que maravilla Karen!!! un placer redescubrir Montevideo a través de ti mirada atenta, sensible, enamorada de los pequeños tesoros escondidos en una ciudad y su gente. Gracias!!!
I love this Video. I am staying at Casa Sarandí now and Karen is such a great hoast. When I was watching your video, I almost had the feeling, I was there with you guys, thank you!
When people ask where I'm from, this will be my go to video. My cousin in Montevideo is an "hincha" of Rampla so he was thrilled that you featured his beloved team. Where was the tango bar that you featured? Thank you Guru for knowing the heart of "mi pequeño pais"
Hello Enza! You have no idea of how happy that makes us, it is important for us that locals enjoy the episodes and can identify with them. That's really cool, so are we! plus they won that day! The bar is called "El Tartamudo" facebook.com/tartamudobarcultural/

What a great video that really captures the feel - and the friendliness of Montevideo. Bravo!
Thank you Martin!
Thanks, Martin! As a now twice time visitor in Montevideo and guest at Casa Sarandi, you've got criteria to be saying that!

What a honour! Thanks, Enza! I see @Vacation Rental Show already jumped in with your answer :)
Congrats. Montevideo is just like what the video shows ;)
Great video!
Thank you Cecilia!
Gracias!
This episode demonstrates that neighborhoods are really small towns that happen to be located in a large city.
Jim Prugh indeed! Or better..communities!
Hi Jim, interesting observation. In case you didn't know, Montevideo has a population of 1.5 million people.
So true. It has even more of that "home" feeling!
thanks!
Thank you.
Greetings from Uruguay! Next time, you must go to see Peñarol - Nacional.
Bruno Fernando yessss! Worth the second trip alone!
Hello Bruno! We should plan our next visit around a game day.
