Finn Jake I know. It's really amazing. It makes me so sad. He had a great voice, and especially in that time... Paul had his voice peak in the late 60's and throughout the 70's, and I think it was much better than John's, but yes. John was a great singer.
Finn Jake Paul. He wrote it and sang it. btw, it's written for and about John's son from his first marrige, Julian. He was having a hard time as he was 6 when John and Cynthia devorced, and Paul wrote this for him, he thought of the melody while driving (!!!) to their house and he sang it to Julian :) He is the best.
To summarize this hilarious clip... 1:40 - John, coming down quickly from the intensity of the high part, almost says "that boy" instead of "this boy" and corrects it halfway to "thas boy" 1:50 - Paul messes up his harmony ("would always feel" = "bla bla bleel") because he's trying not to laugh 2:06 - John says "thas boy" again on purpose, to see if he can get Paul to really crack up. 2:12 - They both harmonize "thas boy" together. Many LOL's follow.
Amit Kalderon Lol yes they can. Beatles fanatics are so annoying because they don't know music history. It's like you think the Beatles invented everything.
Of course, it was only Take 1 . . . they had to keep doing takes until they got it right . . . .these days you would just go back and sing the bit that was wrong and they "punch" it in where its supposed to go . . . what is amazing is the other guy (George) had such a great fix on doing harmonies as well . . . amazing!!!!!
If this song makes you cry - not from the poignancy of the lyrics, but from its raw beauty and the wonder of the miracle - then you understand the Beatles.
Paul: “Don’t be nervous John!” John: “I’m not!” John answered “I’m not” so quick I think he was butt-hurt for a moment haha! Paul may certainly have been joking but it sounds like John didn’t pick up on it right away lol! These four dudes were just like brothers. What an awesome relationship. The greatest band in Rock History for sure!
No they were not like brothers, RINGO had ONLY joined the band a few months before please please me the other 3 were together since the late 50's so they may had a sibling relationship but probably more of a good and best friend thing, maybe later in mid 60'S they may have felt some kind brotherly love, but you would have had to be there.
Paul:"Don't be nervous, John" John: "I'm NOT nervous" ( sounding nervous though) Somehow, feeling this support that Paul and John showed for each other while singing always makes me a little emotional These four boys are truly a gift to music and to all of us, music lovers. Their legacy will go on and on forever.
This was actually Take 12, but regardless, it was flawless and John's vocal on the bridge was terrific. The sudden halt and laughter at the end was because John (or Paul) mistakenly sang "that boy"
12 takes? Was that typical? I thought bands at the time only did around 1-5 takes per song, because everything was so expensive to use so much studio time and tape, even for The Beatles.
@@philmstud2k idk how much the typical amount of takes are, but the Beatles definitely did a lot of takes. I saw a video of music bloopers where a guy in the background called "take thirteen"
I'm always amazed at how perfectly George sneaks that difficult third part harmony into this number. Amazing backing vocalist. I always said that Paul was the greatest backing vocalist in rock history (amongst other things), and George could be the second greatest.
On some of their early songs, they recorded everything live with no overdubs. This is particularly the case with most of the songs on the "Please Please Me" album. Twist and Shout is an example. The song was the last they recorded that day and they recorded it in one take. When they attempted the second, John's voice finally gave out.
"Don't be nervous John" LOL! John always did say This boy when he meant That Boy & That Boy when he meant This Boy..BUT he was the great JOHN LENNON...HE CAN SAY IT ANYWAY HE WANTS..THE WORLD LOVES JOHN LENNON 4EVER;)
The boys are debuting their song This Boy, as George Martin would say. I can understand why Paul would wish John not to be nervous. That anguished solo vocal by John in the bridge always gives me chills. Can't imagine take after take of that being easy.
This Boy was always one of my favorite songs of The Beatles, especially growing up, because of its beautiful melody and harmony. And then when it came out in instrumental form during A Hard Day’s Night (thanks to George Martin), I thought it was one of the most beautiful instrumental songs I had ever heard…and I still do! Nothing puts me in such a sentimental mood as hearing that song…even now. 😊
We owe so much to these guys.....Thanks for making my life better....Turn out tje lights put on this tune and be taken to another palce....Thanks for the songs and the memories....
They're both playing their Gibsons on this track. John is playing it acoustically, George has it plugged in. There are photos from the sessions showing this floating around.
Years later I saw George with a group of 'just folks' when this came on someone's radio. He smiled broadly, then couldn't resist reprising his harmony part. Such a great song from the GOAT group.
fantastic, I feel like a fool but I have never heard this particular recording until now, my god they are not even trying and laughing and it still sounds like heaven. this sounds so very close to the released recording and also, I love the video itself. great job.
I was 12 when "Meet The Beatles" hit the music stores. It was so incredible in that it was the first album where you wanted to hear every song. No moving the needle forward.
There is so much joy in this recording that if you weren't listening back in the day, you might miss it, we heard all the subtle mistakes in the final recordings and knew that someday, we could sing this, feel the pain, want her back again!....
10/17/1963, 1st recording with a 4-track deck."I Want To Hold Your Hand" was done That night also. Amazing is the only word to describe what was coming after!
if this was indeed the first take...this showed us how they loved this song... This Boy...but...this boy wouldn't mind the pain...are correct lyrics (3rd verse) this song coupled with "I Wanna hold your hand" as a single record... John's voice indeed miracle !!
Listening to this shows how much talent and incredible ability they had together. The rubbish pushed out nowadays comes nowhere near this, and this song was used as a 'b side. Amazing.
And the lads laughed, unaware of what they had done, or who they truly were, the role they would play in history, the place they would occupy in eternity. And George Martin watched them in awed silence, and in stunned, wordless wonder. And his mouth parted slightly and his eyes widened as he thought to himself, “My God, they’re here. They have finally arrived.”
There are so many single tracks that you could choose, if you had to choose one, that would establish the genius of The Beatles. This is one of the considerations...
thanks for upload this jewel. If you listen and watch the videos for this song, you will note that John has some issues singing the part "oh and this boy..but oh my!", so Paul joking him before it or look at him before John start sing this part of the song..just watch carefully the videos...kind of joke from Paul to John.. long life to Beatles...timeless and incredible perfect as always....

No one can beat their vocal harmony.
Some of the Americana/folk rock groups of the late '60s and early '70s have better harmonies, and certain soul groups.
Especially Paul's and John's amazing sibling harmony.
have you ever heard of a little group called the beach boys?
