I had my first experience with WGS recently after I got a good deal on a Fatboy loaded with a Retro 30 and Reaper HP. Just like the ET-65 in this vid, they really shine at bringing out the harmonic complexity of driven tones. I've only had the cab just over a day so I've only got around to comparing the speakers against a V30 in a part-open combo so far. Even then, that harmonic richness stood out in a '3D' sort of way (relative to the V30, which had it's own unique thing going on).
This is what I would put in my deluxe reissue, but I'm fond of the stock c12k in there because it's a dual mono setup and fills out the spectrum nicely alongside a marshall or vox thing. Eventually I'll probably try one in there though. Also Joe you're a beast, son.
After trying a lot of speakers in my '74 SFDR over a couple decades, the one that stuck and gave me the sound I was looking for is an '83 Celestion G12-65. Of course, the ET65 is based on the Celestion G12-65, so i can imagine that it would be a great option.
That's cool, my favourite replacement speaker for a twin is the g12-65. The two speakers sound pretty similar but the WGS is a bit darker, so it'll probably be personal preference as to which people would prefer.
I too like the green beret better. That more up front part of the sound in the et65 is in the wrong spot for my preferences. Admittedly the sound guy would probably dial it back in. But that’s just my .02.
Your team makes the best cabs around, and somehow, they're very affordable 👌 Moving forward as a suggestion, you guys should try to increase the model of speakers you offer. I would love another Super Fatboy with Eminence SC64 and SC59. Keep up the great work fellas! ❤
Thanks, that's really kind of you. We have stocked other speakers before but the trouble is you have to hold so much stock it can be hard, that's why we offer unloaded cabs too. Those two are great speaker by the way, I love them.
I got a new old stock one on eBay and almost don’t believe it is the ET65. How can I tell if it’s real? It sounds so shrill to me clean or dirty with my orange or15, Princeton style amp, or my Marshall plexi style amp…
It's generally a fairly dark(ish) speaker, or at least on the darker side of things. As far as a real speaker goes, there aren't really many fakes, there's not much point faking a speaker as they're not that expensive. Maybe ask WGS.
I don't think you'll be getting to the edge of breakup with a 65 watt speaker, in your house! 🥲 I think you are much more likely to be able to do it, with the G12Q - 20 watts!! 🥹 👍 👍 👍
edge of break up doesn't really imply its the speaker that will be breaking up, more the amp or a general distortion level... and speaker break up is really more of a compression level rather than distortion added from the speaker.
How do you think the ET-65 stacks up against the Green Beret and it's Celestion counterpart? Let us know below!
The ET-65 kills the Green Beret. It has a broader spectrum with less emphasis on the highs because the other frequencies can keep up.
That sounds really good. And the Green Beret. I'd be happy to play through both of those.
nice job as usual guys.. nice punchy speaker - strong mids, tight sound.. gotta do the ET90 next!
Great demo! I love both the ET65 and the Green Beret!😊
Thanks as always mate.
Awsome pickin 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 ya tore those clips up..... nice job✌🏻
Thanks mate

Yeah Joe's great. The C12K is a great speaker for those amps.
I’ve got one of these in my Orange PPC112. Great speaker.
Thanks for watching.

Yeah, and also a different mic and placement would probably make it work much better
Thanks Paul! The WGS sound nice with that bit of grittiness to them. Thanks also for showing the Fat Boy, I like it a lot!
Thanks mate, glad you like it.

It sure is fun listening to Joe shred!
Yeah he is a beast. Thanks for watching.
ET-65 has a very upper midrange good for a focused high gain lead if the track has multiple gufitars.
Wonder if they would mix good together in a 2x12!
Honestly I thought the Green Beret sounded better but I'd have to hear them actually in the room while playing.
It's a more lively speaker for sure, I can see why you'd prefer it.
ET-65 and Retro 30 and you get the definitive 80s/90s rock tone.
I actually prefer the slightly brighter Celestions but these two are great speakers, you can definitely do a lot with them.

@ does it get darker with break in? It’s got a worse spike than my v30 right now just shifted even higher than a v30.
If they're not cheaper than the Celestion they're copying, why would I buy a WGS

If the amp is doing the breaking up, then what does the speaker matter?? 🥹
